Hyper Street Fighter II is from the PS2/Xbox Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, and iirc allows you to pick various versions of the 17 fighters across the history of the II games to square off against each other. And I'm hype as fuck about the Fighting Collection, omg. It even has rollback netcode, which is the first time I can think of Capcom including it from the start...at least in the last two gens.

SF6 looks impressive visually but Luke isn't a character I'm really into, and Ryu looks a bit like Chris Redfield without a shirt, but I love the fact it's actually moving away from SFIV/V's aesthetic and trying something new for its art design. It looks amazing, and I look forward to seeing more (and hopefully some characters I care about more, haha).

Red Earth! Red Earth! Red Earth! Red Earth! Red Earth! Red Earth! Red Earth! Red Earth!
Cast in the name of God ye not the guilty we have come to term! Red Earth!

Kind of curious if they're going to do anything to "adapt" Red Earth, as its "original" 2-player mode only includes four playable characters, and they're the most boring members of the cast. I really doubt they will bother, but, still let me play as the Chimera Sphinx!

Anyway, ambivalent about Street Fighter 6. Street Fighter 5 I bought day one on my love of Street Fighter alone... and I was kind of annoyed that I should have waited for like a season's worth of characters to drop before I got into it. And then that kept happening... for like five years. Suffice to say, I feel like I want to see a "release map" for SF6 before I get excited.

.... Or they'll just release an image of SF6 Sakura, and, like, she has a robot eye, and I'll buy it immediately. I am a mark for Capcom, and they know it.

Fearful asymmetry
A fighting game collection that's 50% Darkstalkers by volume? I've got no beef with that. It's a shame that the Vampire Saviors are going to have mix and match characters due to the limitations of the CPS2 hardware, but that's okay, I'm happy enough just playing NightWarriors.

As for Street Fighter 6, I just don't care anymore. I was a fan of Street Fighter 4, but I fell off the wagon with Street Fighter 5. There's just something about it that doesn't click with me. The new characters suck (FANG, Necalli, and Laura especially), and the rest of the cast feel like second stringers that weren't interesting enough to justify their inclusion in Street Fighter 4. I know I wasn't chomping at the bit for the return of Rainbow Mika, Karin, and friggin' Charlie/Nash. The "some assembly required" design wore on my nerves too. It felt like the game was released in 2016 but wasn't finished until four years later, unlike King of Fighters 14, which was robust out of the starting gate.

I'll probably buy it eventually, but for the sixty-odd dollars they'll be charging at launch? Nah. You can pass right by me with that.

I love that Ryu is getting progressively wider with each sequel. Gimme Big Ryu. I want a massive lad.

Easy there
Charlie and Karin rule. But game was incredibly weak at launch. I mained Charlie for a bit. And played regularly until the free dlc story mode. Then I felt new characters were too expensive per, and the sets were ok priced, but I was bitter how incomplete the game was at launch.

I got back into it around time Urien was a character (arcade? champion edition?) and played it a lot for a bit. It's a good game completely hampered by how it released.

So my sf6 wish list
- 20+ characters at launch
- Arcade mode at launch (weird I have to say this)
- Multiplatform (i dont pc game and won't buy ps5 purely for sf6 [i bought ps4 purely for V, and ... yeah])
- some dece single player content - NRS basically dominating in this area, and if you play the sfv story dlc vs what was in MKX... well. MKX destroys
- Characters I'd like: Urien, Oro, Honda, Cody... MIKE HAGGAR???? I can wish. Oh and Hakan - give me Hakan you cowards

Street Fighter 5 is the fighting game equivalent of No Mans Sky in comparing where the game started to where it finished.

That being said; it was definitely released before it was ready to be, so hopefully they learned their lesson about that.

…also they could just keep releasing SF4 and I’d continue buying it.

I think the Cap Fight Collection should have had SSIVU with rollback

He is the final SFV character. I guess he is really fun to play, and is intended to be the protagonist of SF6 story.
Comments on this:
- he looks very SNK, like very overdesigned
- Capcom new protags or villains is always funny because usually get de-emphasized. C Viper, Abel, Alex, Necalli and so on

Ken looks way different in the SF6 teaser trailer.

Don't have any thoughts on 6 outside I hate the new MMA league style logo. That Darkstalkers collection peaks my interest though.
I also hate the new logo; although it reminds me of World of Tanks.

I had no idea there were so many Darkstalkers games. I imagine all the Darkstalkers games are iterations like SFII, SFII Champion Edition and Super SFII.

I don't know much about the Street Fighter mythos but I feel like by now Ryu should be the one holding a tournament. At the very least, the trailer does imply that he's the one the up and comers want to beat and he's basically now just THE guy. Like, I know last bosses need to be unplayable or unlockable but all the same...

They aren't. The first three games, Darkstalkers, Night Warriors and Vampire Saviour are much more different than any other Street Fighter II iteration. They're proper sequels with whole new systems. The last ones, Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire Saviour 2 are more iterative as they mainly mix and match what characters are in the Vampire Saviour engine.

Vampire Saviour is as good as any Capcom fighting game you may care to mention, but it's insanely technical.

Ok so
It basically this in plot
SF1 1988
SFAlpha1-3 1989-91
SF2 1992
SF4 within 5 years of sf2
Sf5 within 10 years of sf2
sf3 10 years after street fighter 2 (2002?)

So this is just rough outline, so in all of SF history only 14 years has passed and 2002 is the last date of events

Pretty sure Capcom has long since ceased to assign any solid year to when any event took place.

SF6 teaser sure looks like a teaser. SF games draw in a lot of people who don't play a lot of other fighters at launch but nearly all of them work like this, settle yourself in for 16 characters tops and a shit ton of changes to come over the first few years or face unending disappointment. There's not really a way around it. More people liked SFIV at launch because that was essentially the second edition, the arcade version of SFIV got a pretty extensive roster update for its console release (and that game's still broke as fuck). Even if they did an early arcade release for SF6 there probably wouldn't be enough raw player data to help it iron out the kinks it'll inevitably have.

I doubt they try launching without an arcade mode again, but I'll be fine if story mode comes later. MK style story modes are pyrite to me, sound great and then I play them and now don't know why I bothered.

Collection looks cool as hell, lot of stuff that's never been rereleased or almost never been rereleased, some solid premium rerelease treatment, dig it.

Officially none of the characters has a birth year anymore, they scrubbed those out even before they were done with 2 and the only "canonical" version of 2 is Super Turbo.

I'd describe SF's timeline as not even sliding but relational. The timeline of Street Fighter is defined by proximity between installments "this one takes place after this other one but before a third one." With the only indication of direct progression being that characters like Sakura are no longer in school. I don't recall any of them even giving a direct number of years between them, just some indicate longer gaps (2-3) than others (Alpha 3-2).

Well, adding to what you posted earlier;

SF1 (Street Fighter year 0)
Final Fight (year 1)
Street Fighter Alpha 1-3 (year 2)
Final Fight 2 (debatable, year 2.5)
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (year 3)
Final Fight 3 (year 3.5)
Street Fighter 4 (Year 8, approx)
Street Fighter 5 (year 9, approx)
Street Fighter 3 (year 13, approx)
Strider (approx year 50)
Section Z (approx Year 90)
Captain Commando (year 101)

The ones I'm less clear on are Street Fighter 2010 (my headcanon is that it's a licensed video game Ken had made to capitalize on his fame in the World Warrior Tournament, but not canon to the events of Street Fighter) as well as Battle Circuit and the other Strider games, the only one with a concrete date is the original with 2048.

One of the fighters in SF5 is the guy who founded Striders clan, so those games must be canon, and also Captain Commando takes place one hundred years in the future of Final Fights Metro City, which presumes that Section Z took place some time before that,

You forgot Red Earth!
And MegaMan (Year XXXX)
1942 (1942)

If Rose's storyline in Street Fighter V means what it looks like, you may need getting your wish
Oh dear

Anyway - my point was Ryu not the grandmaster, and all events are semi compressed vs time in which these were released.

@Pajaro Pete They need a SF game where Ryu invents Grunge music. Smells Like Hadou Spirit
