And Ryu wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer. Street Fighter 6

Imagine living in the golden days of Street Fighter II and learning you're getting a masive revamp of SFII with four new characters and one of them is from your country. Dream come true! Then you see the first screenshot and is something like this;

Imagine hearing you're getting a new Canadian fighter and it's a guy dressed like Abraham Lincoln. I mean, usre, there are Abraham Lincoln cosplayers in Canada, same as there are some native american tribes displaced from what is now the US in Northern Mexico, but c'mon that's obviously not the social commentary they are trying to make.

They did right with El Fuerte, I'll admit that much.

He’s multi-faceted too; because you look at him and think luchadore, but so much of his identity is tied to the fact that he’s also a chef.

If I remember right, T. Hawk and his tribe were pushed off of their traditional lands by Shadoloo, and they reestablished in Mexico...yeah, I'm on the right track per the Street Fighter Wiki:

When he was an infant, he and the members of his Thunderfoot tribe were being forced off their land by Shadaloo. Many of the members resisted and fought against them, and some were killed, including their leader, Arroyo Hawk (T. Hawk's father), who was cowardly murdered by a younger M. Bison. Now living in Mexico near the Monte Albán plains, T. Hawk wants nothing more than revenge from Bison for his despicable actions and to reclaim the land that was taken from his people. The Thunderfoot tribe had also experienced disappearances of many of their people, T. Hawk took the responsibility of finding them. One of them, his beloved Julia, became Juli, one of Bison's brainwashed assassins known as The Dolls.

I'm presuming that AKI, the only new character with a name written in English, is related to FANG somehow; which I'm basing on the fact that they're both from China, both have acronyms for names, and both have a poison motif

Purple

(She/Her)
Until I see explicit confirmation otherwise I'm just going to assume A.K.I is a continuation of the proud Shadoloo tradition of being the focus of a game's plot and then transitioning.

Becksworth

Aging Hipster Dragon Dad
So I noticed in the trailer it looks like Chun Li is training a girl in headphones which I don't see in the above leaks. Could just be a character in the single player campaign story, but perhaps that leaked image is incomplete or not the final roster.

Alixsar

The Shogun of Harlem
(He/him)
She's a character in the SF world, who's essentially a fan of Chun Li and Chun Li agrees to train her. It's actually kinda a hint that this game is the "latest" game in the games' timeline since prior to this, SFIII was the last game in the timeline and everything else was set before SFIII but she was still pre-teen (see the end of this/Chun Li's 3rd Strike ending) at that time and now seems to be in her teens at least. Maybe DLC, if anything? 22 is a healthy sized launch roster and they did tons of seasons/DLC for SFV so I don't see why they wouldn't do the same here

Okay, I think I understand the issue a little more now.

SO

I'M IN SF MANIA
I was looking for something beyond base pad now. I play on Series X, the dpad is great. Been playing Ultra SF 4 and 30th Anniversary collection. But now i want six face buttons!
I got a Hori Fight Pad (Fighting Commander Octa). I found the dpad was very terrible, and was harder to do moves consisently. It felt small too, like it was a gamecube dpad!
So I returned it and asking you all if you have recommendations for:
1. fight pads with 6 face buttons
2. Arcade sticks!

THANKS ALL!!!!!!

SO

A ton of stuff
Capcom invited a bunch of youtube shills to play, so there is a ton of impressions, and videos of fights. Oh also guile trailer last week!

- the build they were playing was 2 stages, and 4 characters (Chun Li, Jaime, Luke, Ryu)
- Standard blocking depletes drive, so drive is both a consumable, and a bit of a stun bar
- parrying done by holding down both mediums, is a frame 1 state. Causes Drive bar to drain, but parried hits regen drive bar
- perfect parrying done by tapping vs holding down
- parrying makes you open to throws
- When Drive bar fully expired, you are in burnout state. This is ONLY time you take chip damage. your bar fills up slowly, but you cant use until fully filled
- when in burn out - the focus/wall spalt attack will put you in stun.
- after you recover from stun Drive bar will be fully recovered, so if someone messes up follow up to stun you can maybe turn tables on them

game looks super kinectic, and wild.

A proper fighting/RPG hybrid is something I've wanted for a long time, so I have high hopes for the adventure game mode in SF6. If nothing else, it means they're putting more effort than ever into the single player side of the game.

Also: Ken's new design looks like an older, buffer Sora.

Mr Bean

Chief Detective
New trailer!

I’m sure a chunk of the internet is frothing for everyone’s favorite psycho Juri, but I’m way more excited for my new favorite Kimberly. Guy was my boy in SF4, and now there’s a running, bouncing, izuna dropping next generation! It looks like she has all the run shenanigans Guy used to plus some ranged options with her spray cans. Barring someone else stealing my heart I know who I’m gonna try first.

Not sure where else to post this.

iDom's EVO 2022 run was pretty special. I only started watching EVO at the end of SFIV and the start of SFV. From the EVOs I've watched, that has to be my favorite run. Maybe recency bias is kicking in, but iDom beat 3 EVO champs (3/4s of the Japanese players on winners side) on the way to grand finals.

Lots of news since this thread last updated:
Complete launch roster! My boy Honda!

Also this weekend is the beta. I didn't get a code... But I fired up sfv in first time in forever. Game is tighter than ever, but still hate the UI, general look. Also hate how expensive characters are, still. Oh well. I feel 6 will launch in better shape..

I got a code! Really excited to play the beta, enjoyed SFV a lot despite its faults and i'm really excited to see how this is to play.

Plan to do more of a writeup when im less tired, but yeah, this game rules. probably my favorite capcom fighter since third strike. the core of this game is so strong that if it releases like this in 2023 i think it has the potential to be my personal goty 2023 already.

netcode is also really good, and coming from SFV that is a massive improvement.

ArugulaZ

Fearful asymmetry
New to the series is Create A Character, and boy have there been some weird characters so far. Maybe not as weird as Vanilla Sagat, but I've seen some pretty strange body shapes.

Playing the second beta.
This game is good!

Some observations:
- corners are terrifying
- Kimberly and Jaime are also terrifying
- I think Guile my main?
- still don't know optimal use of drive bar, especially reversal and dash
