We did this last year and I think it went well. So, we're trying it again in 2022. I hope you will join us! Throughout the year we read 10 books taking July and December off. This is 2022's list:

January - One Hundred Years of Solitude Gabriel Garcia Marquez
February - The News from Spain by Joan Wickersham
March - This is How You lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
April - The Popul Vuh
May - The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
June - High on the Hog by Jessica Harris
August - Waiting for Godot Samuel Beckett
September - Summer of the Monkeys by Wilson Rawls
October - The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes
November - The Hidden Palace by Helen Wecker

I'll be making a new thread for each book/month and linking to them here. I don't think anyone minds if you get your reading in early but please don't begin discussing the book until the month has started and let's keep spoilers out of discussion until the last two weeks or so of a month?

If you recommended one of these books and you've got a specific edition or version that you think is great please mention it and link it here if possible. Otherwise I look forward to reading with you all in January!

So I selected the Popul Vuh for April, and wanted to say that I don't want to specify a specific translation/edition. This is more about my intent to seek out stories and perspectives that are important but haven't been as recognized by the public. In the case of the Popul Vuh it's also worth noting that this epic was erased/burned/suppressed due to colonization.

I found a free PDF online, my library has this "retelling" that looks cool, and this edition is the one I picked up as it seems to be the newest translation. But I want to encourage people to participate no matter what they find.

Finally, I haven't read this, just heard about it so if someone does have an edition they really recommend I'd love to hear it since people might be finding copies now.

One tiny anecdote: since I’ve read Time War and News From Spain this year, the advertising lock screen on my Kindle has started throwing me all sorts of steamy romance novels! Thanks, algorithm!
