I had to choose between the lady who cut my arm off and was probably working for Umbrella, or a different lady who let me stay in her trailer while she was out. I chose to help Zoe, then she died two minutes later. Did I goof?

Also, is the house section over now? There was some stuff I missed back there!

Kinda? The ending is slightly different but more importantly you have to fight Mia again now.

Also, yes. IIRC, the boathouse fight against giant eyeball monster Jack is the point of no return.

Ah, phooey.

I’m still having a good time, even though the game has taken a huge swerve and I might as well have been playing F.E.A.R. for the past hour or so.

I thought the fungus hivemind heart-to-heart with Jack was neat. I like how weird this one is getting!

The near end reveal of this game is wild.

The last area is big pile of nothin’, isn’t it?

I’m not alone in being confused that there isn’t a proper final boss, am I? You get the hard-to-lose, victory lap boss battle, but there’s no “real” fight that should precede it. You inject Eve, shoot a Birkin-style wall monster, then finish with a rocket equivalent. None of those segments were a true boss. I am very baffled by this!

The last hour bummed me out, yet I am already looking forward to playing through again. Is any of the DLC worth getting?

Eve boss ruins the impact I think.
Free Chris DLC Not a Hero is dece, but all in salt mine. It wraps up a lot of the threads

End of Zoe DLC very interesting as well. But operates on the assumption you left Zoe behind.

The rest are like monster horde modes, and weird escape room and mini games from perspective of Clancy, the camera man from the True Crime trio at the beginning

I beat RE 7 again, this time getting the “good” ending, along with all the bobble heads and coins. This time I had the magnum, which along with neuro rounds, turned the twin boomer molded encounter at the end into a joke.

That End of Zoe DLC is fifteen dollars!? I got the base PS5 game for ten! I do want it, though.

I have finished a run on Madhouse difficulty. Madhouse greatly reinforces just how lame the last third of RE7 gets, both thematically and mechanically. I’d read online that once you beat Mutant Jack you’re home free, and that certainly was what happened for me. There are no more real bosses to dump ammo into after leaving the Baker House, and the molded, while more powerful now, still cannot defeat doors and are easily maneuvered around in all but the tightest hallway. There is still no real last boss, which I continue to be upset over.

I liked this one a lot. The series-wide flaw of losing steam once you leave the residential areas hits RE7 real hard, though.

I like 8, and yeah, they've already announced Gold Edition.

For me, the post-6 REs rank RE2K19>RE7>RE3make>RE8, but I'm a weirdo in how much I liked RE3make, so YMMV. 8 was still my GOTY last year.

7 > 2 > 8 > 3

Also you can get 11 Resident Evil games for at least $30 from Humble Bundle right now, which I very much did and am looking forward to marathoning. I'm excited because I never played Zero! I'm hyped to be underwhelmed!

I find it positively wild that you rank 8 over 7, if I'm being honest.
7 is more cohesive and less stupid, but I really got bored of shooting sludge monsters and everything after you leave the house on the boat is a big nothing. 8 is constantly doing new stuff, and it doesn't all work but enough of it does, and I appreciated that enemy variety existed.

I'd rank 8 over 7 as well and that's down to 8 being the only game that feels like a meaningful reattempt at the underpinnings and structure of 4 as a complete whole rather than just taking bits and forging a new identity around it. Meanwhile, there are many games that are retakes of how RE1 does things so 7, while excellent, feels less special

I got the platinum trophy in RE7. You don’t realize how many keys you pick up in the Baker house until you can’t put them in the item box for most of the game!

My ranking of the new generation of RE games that I’ve played is 2 > 7 > 3.

Remake 2 is sublime, with enough scary elements and tense situations to give a real survival horror feel, while still accessible to people like me who can’t deal with the camera and tank controls of old.

RE 7 has the Bakers and their impossible murder house. When it has those things, it is wonderful. When it doesn’t…

Remake 3 is a fun action game that has super replay value. I can also tell way too much is missing form the original, and I’ve never even played it. The last boss on Inferno is unfair bullshit, even with all the bonus items.

I’m still mulling over how much of the DLC to get for 7. I wish I’d had waited a few more weeks to buy the game, since the Gold Edition is now on sale, while the season pass is still 30 dollars.

Free Chris DLC should do. It's all in salt mines though... But adds some closure on some dangling threads.

Daughters and End of Zoe are sort of bookends. Daughters is super short, but very cool

I already got the Not A Hero DLC, what with it being free. I wish all this stuff was unlockable, like in RE4. The videogame industry was a different place back then, I guess.

Well sorta. You had to buy re4 again for the Ada campaign.

To be fair, you got one Ada campaign (Assignment: Ada) in the GC original, you just had to buy the PS2 (and beyond) for Separate Ways.

Speaking of, I messed around with it pretty early on, but I just downloaded the 1.1 version of the RE4 HD Project today.

You also got Mercenaries, one of the best unlockables I’ve ever seen.

I wonder if the Remake will be as generous with the goodies?

I played through the Not a Hero DLC, which features Chris Redfield, known hero, trying to stop a bioterrorist and rescue people. I liked it! It was only about an hour long, probably less on subsequent runs, yet it had enough new elements to make it feel very unique from the base game. Speaking of, I wish the end of the main game had been more like this, with puzzles and obstacles to deal with, instead of a boring straight line with the same four Molded you’ve fought the entire game.

I was wondering when this DLC was released, and found out it and End of Zoe came out nearly a whole year after the game launched! Not a Hero might as well be the real ending of RE 7, I can’t imagine having to wait a whole year to see it.

I didn't think it was that long after? I played it finally in early covid and liked it, but bounced off it before due to salt mine environment which is deeply boring!
