I was about to say the same thing! it's ridiculous, the number of dungeons in this game. they set the bar too high, too soon.

Fo' reals. Play Link to the Past completely through, then try playing Wind Waker immediately afterward.

RAGE

p.s. I love WW, but good god it's freaking short.

Take out the sailing and then its like if you ended Link to the Past after the Aghnim (sp?) fight length.

Yeah, but the dungeons in LttP are, on average, 1/10 the length of the dungeons in OoT onward. It took me as long to solve the Deku Tree than it did to solve some of the endgame dungeons in LttP.

I need to do some research (probably later tonight) on what, precisely the minimum equipment list is for LttP. Like, there's probably one list for "you can skip these items and still reasonably finish the game" and another for "you can skip these items and all these items too if you're willing to abuse glitches and go crazy with savestates" and I'm not sure which is the aim here. Either way should be fun.

Oh yeah, sure. Tell me you breezed through Turtle Rock or the Ice Fortress on your first playthrough. Go ahead.

Those endgame dungeons were pretty brutal, man.

I could probably give the reasonable list if you want, but if you can find the glitches 'n' stuff one that'd be great. I've been looking for one for ages.

In any case, I'm torn guys: should I continue this and press on to the end, or wait until some of the earlier ones finish up?

I didn't breeze through them, but I did breeze through all the light world dungeons, and I didn't breeze through the Deku Tree. LttP throws a couple "learning the ropes" dungeons at you before you get to the good stuff; OoT/WW/TP finds cool ways to integrate the rope-learning along with the good stuff.

True, you don't want to burn people out on this. I'm only following Dragon Quest and the Zelda ones, I'm planning to catch up on the rest later.

I'm not sure if this or Link's Awakening is my favorite Zelda. I must admit though that LttP has my least favorite heart piece ever; the one in the digging game. Reason why is because it's in a completely random place each time you try for it. That and the one time I ever found it, the power went out before I could save, and I've never seen it again...

I want to say that the dungeons in LttP are pretty damn big. I know the last one before Ganon is freaking Epic. Same with Turtle Rock.

PapillionReel, please keep going, this is probably my favorite Let's Play right now.

You never played it? Not everyone hates it.

I don't necessarily mind that no Zelda game since LttP has had that many dungeons. Link's Awakening for instance had a better overall selection IMO.

Perhaps, but nowhere in the two posts you made in the "Elephant" thread is that obvious. There's a reason why people misunderstand you sometimes, Tomm! (Don't worry, though, we cool.)

I'm playing Link's Awakening right now (figuratively speaking) and I'll agree that it's very good, but even if one were to believe that it lives up to the awesomeness that is LttP (which I, for one, do not) it is hampered by some severe technical limitations. The slowness of the GB, coupled with the constant need to pause the game to map different items to the 2 buttons you have, really detracts from the experience. In my opinion, a remake of Link's Awakening as a high-res 2D game (DS, for example, with no silly touch screen nonsense) would be a very worthy successor to LttP, but would not eclipse it.

Well, I tried playing The Adventure of Link once, but whenever I got to Error the emulator would screw up for some reason. I wonder why...

In any case, since no one seems to mind me bringing it back, I guess I'll start this baby up again. But all y'all make sure to check out the others as well, especially TheSL's, MightyBlue's and Sven's since they started before I did.

Anyway, last we left off, our hero had just received an urgent telepathic message of Zelda calling for help. Will he reach the Sanctuary in time?

Unfortunately, we're too late. With the elder's dying words, we learn that Agahnim beat us to the punch and kidnapped Zelda back from us.

He'll pay for this. I swear it.

But not before trying out this new sword we got. Besides the doubling in power, the Master Sword can also shoot beams from the tip, hitting enemies for half damage at a distance. Nifty.

It makes storming the castle again a snap as well.

Not too long we find ourselves before the barrier that kept us at bay oh so long ago, but this time we're packing heat.

Here we are at last. Time to fight our way to the top.

But it seems that we're not the only ones that got upgraded. Those ball-'n'-chainers from the beginning are sporting new armour, and take eight shots from the sword beam before they fall.

There are also these guys who'll kamikaze you until either you or they die. Which would've been bad if it weren't for the fact that they can't even touch me with my new sword.

Honestly, I don't think there's much I have to say about this place other than it's just one big slugfest.

With the occasional maze, of course.

And bottomless pits...

But for the most part, the only puzzles to be solved involve killing things with as little loss to health as possible.

Before we go on though, we should check out this tile for a Sahasrahla fun-fact where he gives us the secret to beating Agahnim. Keep this in mind for when we get there - it's very important.

In any case, back to slugging it out with the guards.

Huh, all three colours this time. Neat.

*yawn*.

Almost there.

Finally. I was about to die of boredom for a second. Now, to rescue... Zelda...

Uh-oh, I don't like the sound of this.

No...

No!!

Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!

That bastard just undid all the work we went through for her! Time to go after him and take him out.

All right, let's do this.

Remember what Sahasrahla said? Since we can't fight him directly, we'll have to turn his shots against him. For the most part, the battle's pretty simple - just hit his shots back at him to deal damage.

However, occasionally he likes to change things around a bit by sending a scattershot out instead, so it's a good idea to keep your distance so you don't end up hitting these instead.

Also, from time to time he'll unleash a blast of lightning as well, but that's easily avoided by standing in the corner.

After enough damage, Agahnim falls, but then he goes through with his last ditch effort and draws us into... the dark world.

*woowoowoowahwahwoowoowoo*

Thankfully, we picked up the Moon Pearl a while back, so we're not completely helpless this time around. Sahasrahla clues us into the situation and name-drops out next destination - the Palace of Darkness where the first of the seven maidens lies. If we rescue them all, we might be able to undo the damage Agahnim's done and save the world.

And yes, I am a bad enough dude to do it.

All right, ladies and gents. This is when the game starts to get interesting. Unlike the first half, the difficulty starts to ramp up quite a bit after this point, so hopefully the dungeon crawling and boss battles should get more interesting from here on out. Thanks for the support everyone, and I'll see you in the next installment!

Next time: The Palace of Darkness and the Helmasaur King!

For my money, Link's Awakening was already superior to LttP on the whole, inferior hardware and all. Much more efficiently designed and challenging, and put its items to much better use.

The Master Sword is great and all, but it doesn't make that awesome sound that the Beams from the first Zelda made.

Seriously, in Heaven, everything makes that sound. That and the "Ka-chang" from the Zapper.

I make it a habit of typing the things I AM saying, rather than waste time typing out all the things I'm not. If people start filling in blanks and assuming things I never said, that's their problem.

Hmm... what happens if you skip the Moon Pearl? Is there some arbitrary barrier that keeps you from getting to Agahnim in that case?

Nope, you still go to the Dark World, but you're still a bunny.

You can still leave with the Mirrior and go back to get it though. So no real loss.
