Default LET'S READ STAR FOX COMMAND - Tis Better To Have Loved...

Hello ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to Let's Read Star Fox Command.

Star Fox Command was released for the Nintendo DS in August of 2006. As the final original installment in the Star Fox Series, It sought to give closure to the the epic tale of Fox McCloud and his team of mercenaries. It's gameplay was an odd mix of free-roaming stages and turn-based tactics, which received a mixed reception at best. But hiding behind the lackluster touchscreen controls was a moving, emotionally charged story that is universally regarded as one of the high points of modern gaming, if not conclusive proof that games have finally become art.

A little over a year ago, I spoke at length on the endings of this shocking tale. But what is an end without a beginning? Today, I take it upon myself to share with you all the complete tale of Captain Fox McCloud and his doomed squad, as they stoically march towards what just might be the final days of Team Star Fox.

I will be providing literary analysis where appropriate, and allowing you, dear readers, to decide which branching paths we shall take. YOU MAY CAST YOUR VOTE FOR ANY OPEN OPTION. Any choice that is not already linked to it's conclusion is fair game.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Let us begin.

HOW TO READ THIS LET'S PLAY.
Star fox command was basically choose your own Star Fox Adventure, with choices all over the place, each one leading to another path through the game. Keeping that in mind, every post in this let's play ends with links to the next part, which you can click to take you there immediately! Click away! Or just scroll down it normally. I'm not here to tell you what to do man.

PROLEGOMENON
WHAT BROUGHT US HERElolbigword

Quote:
Years ago, a scientist named Dr. Andross became obsessed with controlling the Lylat system. He launched wave after wave of attack fighters from the remote planet of Venom and ordered them to strike Planet Corneria--the heart of the Lylat system.

However, four brave pilots who made up a squadron known as Star Fox finally put an end to the doctor's mad ambitions. Andross himself was defeated by the leader of Star Fox, a brilliant pilot named Fox McCloud.

In the time that followed, Venom became known as a quarantine planet. Due to that reputation--and the frequent patrols carried out by members of the Cornerian military--it has been years since anyone set foot on the planet's surface.

But after a period of quiet, Venom struck back with devastating attacks on the Lylat system. Any and all attempts at resistance were brushed aside, and soon all cities came under the grip of this new, terrifying enemy.

The occupiers were known as the Anglars, and operated under the control of the Anglar Emperor. Their headquarters were located in the toxic Venom Sea, a vast ocean so inhospitable that it was believed no living thing could survive there.

The members of Star Fox, the heroic and famous squadron that had come to Lylat's aid in her hour of need, had disbanded. Each pilot was living a new life, and it would prove a difficult task to bring the former team members back together.

Fox McCloud, the team's leader, was wandering the galaxy with his friend ROB, a navigation robot that he inherited after his father's passing. Fox used this time to tie up a few loose ends and also ponder the course his life had taken.

The Cornerian military hero General Pepper fell ill, and could no longer lead as he once did. He recommended that Peppy Hare, Star Fox team member and father figure to Fox, be promoted and given command of all Cornerian forces.

Brash pilot Falco Lombardi lived as a loner. He drifted from job to job, searching for the same thrill he felt as a member of Star Fox. But his existence was mostly an empty one...something that annoyed him more than he would admit.

The technical brains behind the team, and Fox's closest friend, was the good-natured Slippy Toad. Slippy met and fell in love with a girl named Amanda, and decided to leave the world of flying and start a new life with his beloved fiancee.

Star Wolf, the true rivals of Star Fox, continued to be involved in dirty dealings. Their work soon caught the attention of the Cornerian military, who put a massive bounty on their heads...

And finally, Krystal. The lone female of the group, she had fought beside Fox and fell in love with him--much against her better judgment and professional concern. Her love was returned, however, and the two promised to remain together always.

But Fox was quite wary of the danger that haunted pilots in the elite Star Fox squadron, and he eventually forced Krystal to leave the team. Heartbroken and ashamed, she fled from Fox and vanished soon after. No one knows what became of her...

Now, the past has come to haunt them all. Unwilling or unable to face his former team, Fox has chosen to take on the entire Anglar armada by himself. Can he do it? Will the team put aside their differences and reunite? All Lylat waits for the answers...

SCENE 0 PATH 0: SOLIDARITY
AKA: THE ADVENTURE BEGINS
lolbigword
Quote:
ROB: The cities of Corneria are coming under attack.
ROB: The Anglar forces are responsible.
FOX: Those guys don't know when to give up!
FOX: ROB, set a course for Corneria!
ROB: Understood.
FOX: How long will it take to reach our destination?
ROB: I am still processing that information. But it will be some time.
ROB: I will now instruct you on engaging the Anglar forces in combat.
ROB: The Anglar forces use a hive mind. One unit with a core controls many ships.
ROB: If you can find and disable cores, other ships in the unit will be neutralized.
ROB: Destroy enemies to find their cores, then fly over them to collect them.
ROB: Doing so will increase your combat superiority over the enemy.
FOX: So let me see if I've got this straight. I pick out a target...
FOX: then I destroy it and collect a core if it has one.
FOX: And if I do all that, good thing happen! Do I have the gist of it?
ROB: Yes. Also, let me tell you about your Arwing's rolling ability.
ROB: When you roll, you create a localized magnetic field.
ROB: This field can be used to attract cores and other vital pickups.
FOX: That's great, ROB!
FOX: Rolling helps me avoid enemy fire AND lets me grab stuff!
FOX: Now you're talkin' my language!
ROB: Yes. Rolling is a very important skill.
ROB: You will use it many times during combat.
FOX: Gotcha.
ROB: This is your first taste of combat in quite a while. May I set up some training?
ROB: I await your decision.
This would be the first decision you, as a player would make. However, much like Fox's "friendship" with ROB it is a cruel illusion. The grim march towards battle continues unchanged wether Fox tries to postpone it with mindless "Training" or not. It is as meaningless as Fox's self imposed solidarity.
Quote:
ROB: As you wish.
FOX: We've reached Corneria already!
ROB: Affirmative. We will be entering the combat zone shortly.
FOX: Looks like we're going to be busy.
ROB: We have entered into orbit around Corneria. Awaiting your instructions.
FOX: What's the situation down there?
ROB: My sensors are picking up multiple enemy contacts.
ROB: The Anglar forces have total control of Corneria.
FOX: Huh. Any other good news to throw my way?
ROB: You will see a time display when you engage an enemy in combat.
ROB: This is your remaining flight time. If it reaches zero, you will run out of fuel.
ROB: And then you will plummet to an unfortunate end. Do be careful.
FOX: Ha! Well, if I get taken out, it's all up to you, ROB.
ROB: You are joking. Ha. Ha. Ha. That is a joke, correct?
And thus they are thrust into battle! And through that dreadful evolutionary leftover of the vidcon medium, "Gameplay", they emerge victorious. Fox is a man who has embraced a life of violence and bloodshed, and it always seemed the obivous choice given the problems it solved. It is only now, after it has driven him to the incredible isolation spoken of in the prolouge, that Fox is starting to see the problems it caused.
Quote:
FOX: Any new information for me, ROB?
ROB: The enemy fighters consist mostly of aluminum.
ROB: They also contain trace amounts of chrome.
FOX: So what does that mean?
ROB: Their ships are impervious to corrosion.
ROB: They can even survive in the caustic Venom Sea.
FOX: I see.
FOX: So their home base is located in the Venom Sea?
FOX: OK! Time to make a plan.
ROB: What is our next destination?
FOX: I want to increase our firepower, but I'm worried about an enemy attack.
FOX: We've gotta do something, and fast. Right now, we're just sitting ducks.
And thus we come to the first real choice in our story. Please note that all three options deal with living, breathing people, whereas the "choice" offered earlier was but a man talking to a machine. Another subtle nod to one of the central theme of isolation VS interaction with others.

And now, dear reader, it is your move.

What happened to the rest of the characters from Star Fox 64? Pigma, Andrew, Katt, and Bill? Is it known?

These are matters of great import!

Also, contact Slippy!

They appear at different points later in the game and two of them are boss battles. Katt got a stupid redesign though because Q Games!

When our back is to the wall and there's enemies all around us, there's only one person we can truly trust.

So let's ignore them and go find Slippy.

SCENE 1 PATH 1: THE CAGED BIRD
AKA: FALCO TO THE FORE

Quote:
ROB: It appears that the city has been occupied.
ROB: It has been overrun by Anglar forces.
FALCO: Huh! So this dump has fallen, too?
FALCO: Those Cornerian forces aren't good for much, are they?!
ROB: We should link up with Fox.
ROB: Suggest making that our top priority.
FALCO: Yeah, yeah, I know!
FALCO: But since we're here, we might as well take a quick peek!
ROB: Is flying solo advisable?
FALCO: How many years have you known me, rust bucket? I live for this stuff.
FALCO: 'Course, I can't believe all the times I've done this stuff for free!
FALCO: Keep this up and I'll be a softie just like Fox! Cryin' about ladies and whatnot...
ROB: As you say. We are prepped and ready for launch.
FALCO: Finally! Let's go!
ROB: Perhaps you can track down a missile.
ROB: Then I could provide you with some cover. See, the Great Fox--
FALCO: I already know that stuff, ROB! Quit tellin' me this basic stuff!
FALCO: I'm going to send these varmints cryin' home to mama!
Falco and Fox are the best friends each other could possibly have, though neither would ever admit it. They are very similar to eachother, and therefore understand eachother on deeply personal levels. However, this means that they also share the same character flaws, in this case turning down opportunities to interact with others in favor of going it alone. Falco's status as a foil to Fox comes from the different ways they act on compulsion. Fox tends to push others away as a form of self punishment, believing that he does not deserve to be around them. Falco, alienates those around him with pride and arrogance, implying that they do not deserve to be around him.

In the midst of the battle, Falco is visited by and old friend.
Quote:
BILL: This is Bill with the Cornerian forces. Thanks for yer help!
FALCO: Bill! Still alive and kicking, huh? I'm on my own today, but...
BILL: Much obliged, Falco! I reckon yer just what the doc ordered!
BILL: I gotta admit, I didn't expect to see you!
FALCO: Phew! That was close!
BILL: Sorry to fight and run fellers, but I gotta spilt!
BILL: I'll see y'all again soon! Take care now!
FALCO: You too, Bill!

A short visit. Bill is a Military man, and does not have the luxury of choosing his own battles. Falco and all the members of Star Fox have no such obligation but this increased freedom means a much less structured lifestyle. Bill suffers from none of the ennui and aimlessness that plagues Falco's existence. It is open to interpretation if this is a fair trade.
Quote:
ROB: I have intercepted a transmission. It appears to be from team Star Wolf.
FALCO: Yeah, I really kicked some tail out there... Huh? What? Did you say something?
ROB: I have located Krystal.
ROB: She appears to be a part of team Star Wolf.
FALCO: Yak yak yak! What are you blabbering about now?!
FALCO: I just flew a solo mission and took out, like, five thousand guys!
FALCO: I come back a triumphant hero, and all you talk about is some transmission?!
ROB: Whrrr... Yes. Well done. ...I will play the transmission now.
WOLF: Enough chatter! We're flying through Sector X and that's final!
WOLF: It's the quickest way to Venom. When we get there, we wipe 'em out!
LEON: Whaaaa ha ha haa! Time for killin'! I haven't been this excited in a long time!
PANTHER: Maybe we should think it over. After all, there is a beautiful lady present.
PANTHER: She is a delicate, fragile creature! We cannot just plunge into danger!
KRYSTAL: Stuff it, Panther. Wolf, fly where you want. I just want to get going.
FALCO: ...Oh, crud.
ROB: That looked like Krystal.
FALCO: Yeah, it sure did. I wonder if it WAS her. She seemes so... cold!
FALCO: Right! Enough ruminating! Let's follow 'em and find out!
After the battle, ROB presents Falco with an intercepted Star Wolf Transmission, revealing that Krystal has fallen into a pretty bad crowd since her breakup with Fox. Falco, unable to resist the allure of drama, decides to investigate.

SCENE 2 PATH 1: ONE STEP BEHIND
AKA: FALCO'S DECISION

Quote:
ROB: We have arrived at the asteroid belt in Sector A-3.
FALCO: Do you have a visual on Star Wolf?
ROB: It appears they have left this sector. Likely destination...
ROB: Sector X.
FALCO: Darn! We were too late.
ROB: I have plotted Fox's current location.
ROB: He appears to be heading for Aquas.
ROB: Shall we change course for Aquas?
FALCO: Not yet. Let's take care of the scum right here first.
FALCO: We can take off once we're done.
ROB: Affirmative.
Please note that Sector X is not of great strategic importance, or anywhere near anybody Falco knows. He is attacking these enemy forces simply because they are there.
Quote:
KATT: I've come to help, Falco!
FALCO: Thanks, Katt! I could use a hand here.
KATT: Check out my Arc Shot!
FALCO: Thanks, Kat!
FALCO: Although I would have been just fine on my own.
KATT: ...I come all this way to help, and that's what you say?
KATT: You're an idiot, Falco. I'm never helping you again.

Falco's defining flaw is pride, and we see here how badly it damages his interpersonal relationships. Katt has been nothing but helpful and kind to him, but he's too self-centered to show the proper gratitude. Katt's response is harsh, but not unexpected.
Quote:
FALCO: Phew! Those guys were good.
ROB: We should rendezvous with Fox at the access point.
FALCO: What? Hey, tin man, who do you think you are? No one gives ME orders!
ROB: Merely a suggestion. And a wise one.
FALCO: I don't like this one bit. I'm gettin' worried about Krystal...
ROB: What are you planning?
What indeed?

ROB has a habit of picking up the (crappy, replacement) Great Fox and ditching whoever he was with for someone new in this game.

Also, it's always great to see people experience the plot/endings for the first time. I got the game as soon as it came out, and it's so much fun seeing fresh reactions to it.

Anyway, Krystal is usually at the heart of the game's most hilarious drama, so search for her!

SCENE 3 PATH 1: DARK BLUE
AKA: BENEATH THE WAVES

Quote:
ROB: We are approaching the submerged city.
SLIPPY: What's our status, ROB?
ROB: The enemy has infiltrated the oceans.
FOX: So they're here, too? I knew it!
SLIPPY: Amanda! Please respond! Amanda!
FOX: Slippy? Are you having trouble raising her?
SLIPPY: I got nothing! Fox, what am I gonna do?! If something has happened to her...
FOX: Don't talk like that, Slippy!
FALCO: Psh. Still the same old Slippy.
SLIPPY: Falco!?
FALCO: What's up, froggy? I just got here.
FOX: Late to the party again, Falco? Some things never change.
FALCO: Ha ha, Fox. Be quiet and listen. I've got some interesting info for ya.
FOX: What is it?
SLIPPY: Fox! Falco! We have to get going! Right now!
FALCO: Go? But we gotta take out all the targets in this area first!
FALCO: Fight first, then talk! That's my motto!
FOX: Let's go!
This entire exchange is wonderfully representative of why Star Fox, as an organization, is doomed. Fox, the supposed leader, is too wrapped up in his own issues to fully recognize Slippy's concerns, and offers no guidance or advice to his team. Command thus defaults to Falco, who's need for victory demands the destruction of all enemies in the area over ensuring the safety of the survivors. Slippy, frantic with worry for his fiancee is dragged along for the ride, incapable of standing up to the other members of his squad.
Quote:
AMANDA: Slippy!
SLIPPY: Amanda?! Are you OK?
AMANDA: I'm fine! I'll wipe them out with my Multi-lock.
SLIPPY: Amanda! Everyone! Are you OK?
AMANDA: A couple of scratches and bruises, but that's all!
FALCO: No problems here, kiddo!
FOX: That's terrific! Let's get back to base!
The relationship between Amanda and Slippy serves to contrast the relationship between Fox and Krystal. At the start of the story, Fox pushed Krystal away with his constant worrying about her, attributable to his own lack of trust and the fact that he feels emasculated by her skill as a pilot. Slippy, while understandably worried by the idea of her trapped without support in a war zone, trusts Amanda's ability, and does not feel threatened at all by her "Multi-Lock".
Quote:
SLIPPY: Amanda! I'm so happy you're not hurt!
AMANDA: Of course I'm all right! I'm going to be your wife, remember?
AMANDA: I'm prepared for anything!
SLIPPY: ...Really? Sniff...sniff... Aw, yer the best! Sniff...
FOX: Don't cry, Slippy!
FOX: Amanda is safe! You should be happy!
AMANDA: Yeah, and they won't mess with us again!
AMANDA: If they do, I'll be waiting to give them a little payback!
FALCO: Right on, sister! That's the kinda guff that Falco likes to hear!
FALCO: I think she's more of an asset to the team than Slippy is!
SLIPPY: Falco! How dare you!
AMANDA: No, that's not right! Slippy, darling, you were simply wonderful!
SLIPPY: Gosh...really?
FALCO: Barf! Why don't you two lovebirds take them on all by yourselves!
FALCO: Look, enough inane banter. I've got something to tell you, Fox!
FALCO: It's about Krystal.
FOX: Krystal? What's she got to do with this?
FALCO: You've really filed her away in your head, eh, Fox?
FOX: Maybe.
FALCO: Oh, and don't go freakin' out when I tell you this, all right?
FALCO: Krystal has joined up with Star Wolf.
FOX: She...she what?
FALCO: I intercepted one of their transmissions on my way here.
FALCO: When I listened, I could hear Krystal talking.
FALCO: They're cutting through Sector X on a direct course for Venom.
FALCO: I think they're gonna try and take Venom.
FOX: Krystal... with Star Wolf...
FALCO: I imagine they've already arrived at Venom by now.
FOX: ...
FALCO: Sorry to bring the bad news, old buddy, but what are we gonna do now?
FOX: It was my call. I broke up the team. I sent her away.
FOX: I have no right to stand in her way or question her decisions.
ROB: We are receiving an emergency transmission from General Peppy.
FOX: Play it back for us, ROB!
PEPPY: Fox! Can you hear me? Come in!
PEPPY: A large contingent of Anglar forces are heading for Corneria!
PEPPY: Their path takes them right through an asteroid belt!
PEPPY: I think Star Wolf has reached the Venom base.
PEPPY: That's why the Anglar forces are scattering across the galaxy!
PEPPY: I ran into the Anglar Emperor and his best units in Sector Z.
PEPPY: It was close, but I managed to outrun them.
PEPPY: But that means they're heading this way! I need your help!
PEPPY: Get here quickly, Fox!
FALCO: ...huh. Well, that doesn't sound good at all.
FOX: Hmm...
FALCO: What do we do about Star Wolf and his cronies?
FOX: ROB! Plot us a course on the double!
FOX: Take us through Sector Z and to that asteroid belt!
ROB: Affirmative.
Falco choosing to reveal Krystal's recent actions to Fox is objectively the right choice. Star Wolf is active participating in the war, they've intentionally sought fights with Star Fox in the past, and knowing who their newest member is gives Star Fox a strategic and planning advantage. Unfortunately, Fox is too obsessed with the very idea of Krystal for any of that to be of much use.
SCENE 4 PATH 1: DEAFENING SILENCE
AKA: WE MEET AGAIN

Quote:
ROB: I have detected multiple contacts. Anglar fighters are closing in.
FOX: Do you think they were waiting in ambush?
FALCO: Looks like they wanted to make a final stand here. Ha! Let's make 'em pay!
SLIPPY: Fox! I'm getting a message from Krystal!
KRYSTAL: Team Star Fox! Do you read me?
FALCO: This is team Star Fox! Heya, Krystal!
FALCO: I knew you'd make it outta there in one piece!
SLIPPY: Yay, Krystal! You made it!
FOX: ...
KRYSTAL: I'm sorry, Fox. But listen, you had-
FOX: Don't worry! I'm... I'm just glad you're OK.
KRYSTAL: Yes, I appear to be all in one piece.
SLIPPY: Thank goodness!
FOX: We need all the hands we can get right now. Will you assist us?
KRYSTAL: ...All right.
ROB: The Anglars have called in reinforcements.
ROB: A massive attack force is heading our way.
FOX: We need to launch now! Falco! Slippy! Let's go!
Any commentary I could possibly add to this scene would diminish the simple beauty of Fox being at a total loss for words. He is positively overjoyed that at the legions of enemy ships, simply for the distraction they provide. Still, no mass of enemies can last forever, and after the battle comes the real challenge.
Quote:
FOX: What was all that about, Krystal?
KRYSTAL: ...What do you mean?
FOX: Is it true? Did you really fly with Wolf and his cronies?
KRYSTAL: You hurt me, Fox! I was upset! I... I wanted to get back at you.
FOX: I did what I did because I was worried about you! I didn't want you to be hurt!
FOX: That's why I said it would be better if you left the team.
KRYSTAL: I know that.
FOX: I can't believe you just up and vanished.
FOX: And then to top it off, you joined Star Wolf!
FOX: What were you thinking?
FALCO: Hey! Fox! Maybe you should throttle down a little!
FALCO: You're not blameless in this, buddy! I understand how she feels.
SLIPPY: Falco's right!
SLIPPY: Krystal just wanted to be with you! Forever and ever!
SLIPPY: That's all! I mean, sheesh! Couldn’t you see that?
FOX: ...
KRYSTAL: I'm the one who got close to Wolf. I'm the one who convinced them to help.
SLIPPY: Speaking of Wolf and the others, what happened to them?
KRYSTAL: I was with them up until we destroyed the Anglar headquarters.
KRYSTAL: The one at the bottom of the Venom Sea.
KRYSTAL: When we were finished, our ships began to corrode.
KRYSTAL: When we pulled out, we ended up getting scattered.
SLIPPY: You flew into the Venom Sea? That thing is pure acid!
SLIPPY: You're crazy!
FOX: Right, I've heard enough. We're going in to fight the Anglar Emperor right now!
FOX: Will you help us, Krystal?
KRYSTAL: I'm sorry about all of this, Fox.
FOX: No more apologies. Not from you. I was wrong.
FOX: You know, I'm worried about Wolf and his crew.
KRYSTAL: Really?
FOX: Once the fighting's done, I think we should go and look for them.
SLIPPY: Hey! Hold on there, Fox!
SLIPPY: Let's just leave those goons to their fate!
FOX: Listen up! All of you! We're going to take down the Anglar Emperor!
FOX: Once we're done, we'll continue looking for Wolf and his gang.
SLIPPY: I don't know...
FALCO: I'd like to say that I hate this plan, but I don't.
FALCO: I guess it works for me.
KRYSTAL: Fox...guys...I'm sorry for all the trouble.
SLIPPY: Don't cry to me when this all goes wrong!
Krystal demonstrates a much higher level of emotional maturity than Fox when it comes to dealing with a breakup. While Fox shut himself away on the great Fox with nothing but a talking robot for company, Krystal joined a new team, helped strike a decisive blow against the Anglar forces, and generally moved on with her life. While Fox was the one who initated the breakup, it would seem she is better off without him

SCENE 5 PATH 1: DEATH OF DISTRACTION
AKA: THE EMPEROR ANGLAR

Quote:
ZAZAN: Emperor Anglar, sir?
ZAZAN: Shall we continue on to Corneria?
EMPEROR: Not yet, Zazan. Let us rendezvous with the other units first.
EMPEROR: We are patient. Let those fools sweat for a little while longer.
ZAZAN: But sir, if I may speak?
ZAZAN: Our entire unit in Sector Z has been wiped out!
ZAZAN: We believe Star Fox and his companions are the ones responsible.
EMPEROR: It is of no matter. Let us prepare a greeting for our new friend.
ZAZAN: Yes, my emperor!
It might strike some of you as odd that the primary antagonist is only showing up now, so late in the story. That is because the Anglar Emperor is not the antagonist at all, he is a background element, less of a character and more a piece of the setting. The true source of conflict is Fox's indecisiveness and self-loathing.
Quote:
FOX: Listen up, everyone! We're going to bring the fight to the enemy!
FOX: It's time to settle this once and for all!
FOX: This is all-out war! Fly safe and watch your backs.
FOX: If things get too hairy, we fall back and regroup. Understood?
FALCO: Fall back?! Bah! That's not how I like to do things!
SLIPPY: Stick around, ya Anglar worms! We're comin' for ya!
FOX: Krystal... Don't try to take on more than you have to.
KRYSTAL: ...OK.
FOX: We're clear on that, right?
KRYSTAL: Fox, listen. I think--
ROB: All ships prepped and ready for launch.
FOX: Team Star Fox... attack!
And thus the full Star Fox team enters into battle one final time. Given the combined skill and experience of the full four-man team, the Anglar Empire never really had a chance. This is the very nature of Team Star Fox: when the four are together, they a unstoppable in combat, but their ability to grow as people grinds to a total halt.
Quote:
EMPEROR: No forgiveness! No mercy! I will fight you to the death!
FOX: We did it! We defeated the Anglar forces!
FALCO: Whoo-hooo! I knew we could do it! Take that, bait-breath!
SLIPPY: It was a bit hairy at times, but we made it through!
KRYSTAL: The most important thing is that we all made it back alive.
ROB: I have picked up Star Wolf on radar.
KRYSTAL: Hmm.

We hardly knew ye.
Quote:
FOX: Wolf!
WOLF: Now you've gone and stolen my prey, Fox...
WOLF: How is it you always manage to swoop in and spoil things?
WOLF: We needed this one! But you wet-nosed whelps had to ruin it all!
FALCO: Ah, quit your whining, fuzzy!
FALCO: We'll make sure that the bounty's taken off your heads.
KRYSTAL: Wolf! Panther! Leon! Thank goodness you're not hurt!
WOLF: It was a barrel of laughs, princess!
WOLF: Although I think the old Panther's feeling a bit heartbroken!
PANTHER: It was a pleasure for Panther, too, darling! Your feelings...
PANTHER: Panther understood them, but...
KRYSTAL: Panther! I...
PANTHER: Panther does not believe you were using him!
LEON: Har! Then what were you crying about earlier, eh, loverboy?
WOLF: We'll meet again, Star Fox!
PANTHER: Farewell, my sweet Krystal.
PANTHER: You will return to us one day. This... Panther believes!
KRYSTAL: Yeah. Sorry about all that.
FOX: Um...
SLIPPY: It looks like Star Wolf has really mellowed out!
SLIPPY: That's nice to see!
FALCO: Yeah, that's Krystal's doing right there!
FOX: I think you're right.
KRYSTAL: Thanks. All of you.
ROB: We are receiving a communication from General Peppy.
PEPPY: Fox! Great job!
PEPPY: As a former Star Fox member myself, I am so proud right now!
FOX: As much as I would love to take all the credit, General, I can't.
FOX: This battle was fought on behalf on peace-loving people everywhere.
FOX: They gave us the strength to fight.
FOX: We owe our victory to them!
PEPPY: Hmmm... I see.
SLIPPY: That means that peace has returned to this galaxy! Yay!
FALCO: Well, I guess that's a good thing.
FALCO: Although I'm gonna be bored out of my skull!
FOX: If you will excuse us, General, we'll take our leave.
PEPPY: Wait! Let me say one more thing.
PEPPY: You are a great leader, Fox McCloud.
PEPPY: Perhaps ever better than your father!
PEPPY: You've really grown up, and I'm extremely proud. That's all I have to say.
FOX: Th-thanks, Peppy.
PEPPY: Falco! Slippy!
PEPPY: This unit only works because of you!
PEPPY: I hope Fox can count on you in the future!
FALCO: Psh! I know that, old-timer!
FALCO: You don't have to spell it out for me!
SLIPPY: You hang in there, Peppy!
PEPPY: And Krystal? Thank you for coming back.
PEPPY: If anything happens, you can always count on me.
KRYSTAL: Thank you, Peppy.
ROB: Great Fox ready for launch.
FOX: ROB! Come about and take us through the access route!
SLIPPY: Yeah, baby!
FOX: Team Star Fox...launch!
Finally the happy ending we were all waiting for, right? Star Wolf is confirmed to be alive, and hold no real ill will towards Star Fox. They get a call from their old mentor Peppy who tells them how proud he is of them. The day is saved, the team is back together, and the whole Lylat System regards them as heroes! Why it almost seems too good to be true.

And it is.

ENDING PATH 1: THE WORLD DOESN'T CHANGE, IT MERELY TURNS
Quote:
The members of Star Fox had reunited once more! Again they put differences to one side and took the fight to the enemy. And when the dust cleared, peace had once again returned to Lylat. Yet Fox is still troubled by complicated feelings...

Months pass. One dark day Krystal makes a startling confession: "I'm sorry, Fox! I can't do this anymore. I'm going back to be with Panther and the rest of Star Wolf." Fox was overcome with grief and begged Krystal to stay... but her mind was set.

Once again, Fox McCloud was forced to wander the world alone...and unloved. But Krystal has no such regrets. She is perhaps the toughest of all the pilots, and she proves it by starting a new life in the elite Star Wolf squadron...
For all of their supposed reunion and success, Star Fox remains a fatally dysfunctional and broken entity lead by a coward in all areas of life unrelated to fighting. The defeat of the Anglar Empire only served to rob Fox of what little purpose and drive he had. Without a looming outside threat dictating his actions, Fox falls back into complacency and bitterness. Krystal, deciding to leave him is not so much a shocking twist as it is a grim inevitably. There was no growth, no lesson learned, and no change.

PERHAPS IF THINGS HAD GONE DIFFERENTLY...

Krystal and Fox's "boobs and butt" poses are still so hilariously awful.

...Wait, that's the whole game? Really?

These chapters must be taking a lot longer than you're making them seem.

I call shenanigans, BEAT! The votes clearly show Krystal drama winning by one point.

We were ROB-bed of some quality storytelling.

Yeah I had already written half of the other one before ghost posted.

Honesty probably should have broken that one into chunks because as is it's kind of a giant ugly mess.

Also I updated the first post to indicate that you all can now pick ANY OPEN OPTION to be filled out. The order I write these doesn't really matter, because post links, and because CYOA books were never in order anyways.
