Tiny consoles they're so small

The smaller the better I say! I I want to step on the Dreamcast Mini when I don't see it hiding among the kid's legos. I want to accidentally eat the N64 Classic after it fell into my bowl of cheerios. I want my mitochondria fighting over who gets the next turn on the 35th anniversary Game Boy. Ants deserve consoles too!

Here's Capcom missing the point. Not only is it too big, but it comes while a whole ding dong screen!

Dubbed the Retro Station, this tabletop unit has an 8-inch screen and weighs 2.1 kg. It comes with the following titles:

  • Mega Man The Power Battle
  • Mega Man 2 The Power Fighters
  • Mega Man X
  • Mega Man Soccer
  • Mega Man & Bass (Japanese Console Version)
  • Street Fighter II
  • Street Fighter II’ Champion Edition
  • Super Street Fighter II
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo
  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

2.1 kg?! Might as well ask me to put a whole elephant on my lap!

What a weird selection of games. Mega Man Soccer? I know a Jbear that will be happy. If it has a way that allows for on-boarding of more titles I could see it as a neat little arcade machine, but Siliconera is estimating about $210 and that's a hefty price tag for what's included out of the box. That's assuming this will see a western release too, which seems unlikely to me.

But really the main issue here is that

Are those the arcade versions of those fighters, at least? Because Mega Man X with a joystick sounds like torture to me, a Control-Pad child.

I'd love for a Capcom arcade mini to be a) not gawdy or pretentious (like the logo-branded EU only arcade stick) or b) cover a wide swath of titles, which this does not. I like this a lot more and it's got a good mix of rare Mega Man games, but just 10 games is not gonna be enough to get me to care at that price point.

I cuss you bad
The controller form factor is bad for something like half the games on the collection and it doesn't look like anything. If it had the shape of a Capcom cab like the Astro City Mini does for Sega cabs and a wider selection of games I'd be up for it.

Also, if you're sticking only Street Fighter II in there, why not drop Super Street Fighter II and put Hyper Fighting in there instead? Super's rubbish.

The logo branded Arcade stick is apparently really good and has a great game selection. Too expensive and massive for me, unfortunately.

Is this going to have multiplayer? They wouldn't put dare Mega Man Soccer on it without multiplayer would they??
Super Street Fighter Turbo was the one with the impossible AI wasn't it?

I like that it has like four Mega Man games that aren't currently available in compilations* and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, but that is not a thing I would expect to comfortably play SNES games with and I'd prefer some more game variety over four iterations of Street Fighter II. =/

I am also wondering how feasible (or not) multiplayer is on this thing given how many games feature it.

*Or in the case of the arcade ones, not available in compilations on newer consoles.

and it doesn't look like anything.

This is all I can think about. Like half the draw of these things is looking like a miniature replica of some real hardware of yesteryear. At least make a tiny version of the ridiculous CPS2 boogie boards.

I'm probably the biggest mini console nut on this board, and if you can't scratch my mini console itch (and you're Capcom, my second favourite publisher) you've done something horribly wrong.

Just want to say that I love how the tiny console thread has so far talked about anything but.

As for the Capcom thing, why this and not Mega Man Legacy Collection 3?

Video games
I will not buy this Capcom shite as I did not buy the original home arcade. Astro City Mini, yes, I will buy you, give it to me please. But not this pile of nothing.

I am still quite salty that Rockman & Forte was left off the Legacy Collections. I'm sure there must be some reason why, but it is really irritating to have just that one (admittedly a bit shonky) classic MM not available.

An arcade revival machine consisting primarily of fighting games and there's only one joystick? At least the CAPCOM controller was big enough for two!

I imagine there will be a way to plug two to each other. Just $500 to play The Power Battle with a friend.
