Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
1. I gots no respect. No respect, I tell ya
2. Given how the game starts, this is not surprising
3. An unconventional genre mash-up
4. The villain seems to be taking a page from Batman 66

It's much harder to update this thread on mobile than I thought it would be...

6. Despite being pretty unpopular at the time, it got a surprising number of ports in the last year

7. We didn’t get a sequel, but the same developer had a much more popular, somewhat similar game on a different platform with a different liscense.

DING!

You can't progress far in the game until you build up your superhero clout
2. Given how the game starts, this is not surprising
The game opens with you being beaten senseless by the villain and left for dead in his hideout
3. An unconventional genre mash-up
Point & Click Adventure and Beat-em-Up aren't flavors you typically see put together
4. The villain seems to be taking a page from Batman 66
When you run out of health, you're thrown into one of several increasingly complicated death traps and have to figure out how to escape
5. "Why don't you just shoot hi- oh..."
Eventually, Sutekh gets tired of you escaping his traps and just kills you personally, instead
6. Despite being pretty unpopular at the time, it got a surprising number of ports in the last year
On the NES App and Evercade
7. We didn’t get a sequel, but the same developer had a much more popular, somewhat similar game on a different platform with a different license.
"Much more popular" being relative, but the SNES Shadowrun game is very similar in structure and was made by the same developer, just an RPG instead of a beat-em-up
8. It’s on the Switch Online NES App
That one is self explanatory

MetManMas

Me and My Bestie
(He, him)
1) Not the kinda game you would probably expect from that name!
2) The developer would go on to do much bigger things.

3) One of the mechanics in this game would be (sort of) reused in a later game.

4) Player 2 isn't a palette swap here!

5) Far from the only game in this genre with this character.

6) Though it is the only one not to have a 16-bit version.
