The Venture Bros. has been fucking cancelled

The one small ray of hope is that we might still get to see the 8th season, since it's already been in production for a while.

Please don't take this away from us, universe.

Huge bummer but I can't say I'm surprised -- the absolutely glacial pace they've been turning out new seasons probably wore down executives' patience and it's a minor miracle they lasted out this decade

This is about where I'm at. Honestly, I'm surprised the show has lasted this long. Especially when around Season 4 or so it felt like they kinda ran out of ideas. It's been a good ride, but it's also been a long time and they took the entire initial premise way farther than anyone thought.

I'm fine with it being over/curious about what those guys's next project will be. Shows like Archer and Bob's Burgers don't become what they are if their makers weren't made to move on from past projects like Sealab and Home Movies respectively. Imagine these guys being freed to do whatever they want and to really let the creative juices flow, and doing it for an outlet with more money/resources to support them than being stuck in the animation ghetto that is Adult Swim.

Well that stinks. Although I never actually watched season 7, mostly because I didn't even know it got made.

That sucks, but I can't say I'm surprised, or even disappointed.

The last shot of the show being Hank striking out on his own to figure himself out, but also he's Adam West Batman is pretty much the perfect place to close the curtains.

17 years to crank out 7 seasons?! No wonder I didn't even realize it was still going on.

In any other year this would have been in the top 10 worst things to happen, in 2020 it's expected. 😑

The Venture Bros has already had two incredible finales, but the show kept going. I assume the wait of cost for new episodes was a harder and harder expense to justify after so many years, especially since VB never achieved the level of success as Rick & Morty, the other show that takes forever.

If we got another All This and Gargantua - 2 style special to wrap things up, that would be great.

Yeah, a finale special to tie up at least the big loose ends would be great, but considering they got the news months ago, I doubt we have something like that coming.

this sucks :(

“The show was cancelled but we’re working on ways to continue their story” smells to me like they’re figuring out the logistics of a comic book or some other low-cost, different medium sequel. Which is whatever.

The latest rumor is that HBO Max has expressed tentative interest in picking up the show.

I mean, I don't want to sign up for yet another streaming service, but that might get me to do it if it happens.

Yeah, it's like George R.R. Martin. Creators don't owe anyone anything, but if they take to long to produce an expected work, they should not be surprised when everyone is sick and tired of waiting around and has moved on to something else.

The last episode of S7 aired not even two years ago; by Venture Bros. standards this has hardly even been a wait. Whatever else contributed to this, I don't think the wait between seasons was a prime factor. It's been two-ish years or more from the start.

Television shows aren't novels, they take a large production staff to make, animation especially. Having them idle for long periods of time means funding runs out or people move on with their careers. The fact that they've kept so many people on after 17 years is pretty good.

The slow production schedule + COVID probably tipped the scales, sorry to say

Was thinking this was probably a pandemic related culling at WB/AT&T, but if HBO Max is possibly wanting to pick it up, then I don’t know what to make of it. That sounds more like they drew the ire of a very specific hire up honestly.

I'm disappointed but I can't say I'm surprised. Put me in the camp that would be satisfied with a Gargantua 2-style mega episode wrapping things up (I mean, at the time I would have been satisfied if Gargantua 2 had been the series finale, so everything since then has just been a bonus).
