Has anybody else started looking at these release timelines for their favorite series and started doing the math for how many more they might get in their lifetime? Like, presuming the average amount of development time doesn't balloon much further, I've got 8 more Zeldas to live, tops.
I just turned 9 Zeldas old. I'll be hitting the big 10 before I know it...

Hot take: I love Minish Cap, but Palace Of Winds is the worst 2D Zelda dungeon, bar none. Absolute miserable soul destroying torture. Effectively it's two huge dungeons stuck on top of each other, making it double the size of every other dungeon in the game and you have to get through the first half without the benefit of a warp point so if you die at any point, start again from the entrance, fucker. Each room seems to contain more bullshit than the last and it just WON'T END.

I was replaying the game on my holiday break and having a pretty good time and then I got to this bit, and the amount of time it's taken to slog through feels like most of a day wasted.

Tried searching a bit, but failed to turn up a BotW LTTP thread, so I'll just post here.

In anticipation of TotK coming out in a scant few months, it's time for me to finally actually finish the main plot of BotW. Playing off and on over the last couple years, I've hit every tower and uncovered the entire map, done a ton of shrines, collected a lot of DLC equipment, found a lot of Koroks, and gotten the Master Sword. What I hadn't done is progressed any mine plot thread much beyond meeting the initial characters pointing toward a Divine Beast.

So, starting with the Gorons. I'd actually done the rescue mission and the bridge-lowering a while ago, so only the Death Mountain sequence was left on this one. I did the ascent/escort sequence.... basically the worst possible way. I initially thought you were supposed to hit the flying guardian drones directly with the Goron-cannonball guy, which proved incredibly finicky, so then I went ahead and knocked them all out myself with arrows and bombs and magnesis so I could escort him safely, until I got to the end of the trail and nothing happened. Because I'd completely missed the fact that I was supposed to be targeting the Beast with him. D'oh. So, hoofed it back to the beginning and did what I was actually supposed to.

Anyway. Inside, the Beast, the rotation mechanic is pretty fun. Got most of the consoles including the one with the finicky rolling ball puzzle, knew where the last one was and could see any mechanism to open the door. Eventually looked at a FAQ to realize that I'd been staring right past an unlit brazier when peering through a hole in the door. Duh.

That taken care of... the Fire-Ghost-Ganon sure puts on a scary show, but, uh, it turns out the Master Sword does a *lot* of damage to the guy, and with that and a lot of upgraded armor I could basically tank and mash him to death without learning any patterns. So long, sucker!

Later I realized I forgot to take a pic of him for the Compendium. Dammit. Is there any way to rectify that?

Also, boss Goron gave be a cool legendary broadsword and said the blacksmith could help me out if it broke. Sweet!, I thought, a nice sword I can actually repair. Well... not exactly, unless I'm missing something. There doesn't seem to be any option to repair it if you still have it, and if it's shattered you have to make a whole new one from scratch using up a friggin' Diamond. That's a little steep. Now I feel like I should just hang it on my wall unless I need it for a big Talus or something, except I like lighting up my room with three glittery elemental wands which leaves no space. Boo.

Bird-town next, I suppose. I think I left that one where I was supposed to go find somebody at the flight range...

Unobtained Compendium photos can be bought from Symin. Additionally, if you have the Champions' Ballad DLC, that will include a way to fight the Divine Beast bosses again. Only once, though.

Diamonds aren't too hard to come by for replacement Champion weapons, but I like them better as trophies anyway. In general, if you lose your way, find whoever's in charge in the settlement and ask them where to go next.

I'm pretty sure I went and bought all the DLC before I even started playing. That bit sounds like something I probably have to access after beating the main story once though, yeah?

Meanwhile I found my way onto the bird Beast. In-air archery wasn't something I'd really messed with before but it's pretty mooth once you've gotten used to what you need to be doing. Ran around in circles inside the beast for a bit before I remember "oh yeah, I have a Magnesis rune and some of these platforms look metallic" and now I'm making progress. The tilt function here is a little more straightforward than the lizard was.

Oh yeah, I also found a base camp for a climbing path up Hebron Mtn which I didn't do in case it turned out to be part of the main plot path, but I guess it didn't. I know there's at least one shrine quest prompt I have the points up there, not sure what else... it's one of my few remaining unexplored areas.

Some parts of the DLC content are available as soon as you leave the plateau, while others are gated behind completing specific plot quests related to the Master Sword or the Champions. They'll be added to your quest log. None of them require you to Defeat Ganon.

Huh, okay. I do have the master sword. I know I have lots of DLC armor quests available and have done a bunch of ‘em. It’s very possible though that something opened up after I got the MS and I just thought it looked like postgame content and noped out and then forgot about it. I’ll check the quest logs later.

Finished off the bird beast with some alternate solutions to a few of the puzzles which was neat.

Stumbled onto rouge-like island in the southeast. The premise is neat and it’s kinda fun for a bit to actually make use of all the little random junk you find again, but then I got stepped on by a Hinox (which has a thing you need) and lost a half hour of progress because you can’t save there, so that was demoralizing. Starting over from scratch feels like a slog, are the rewards anything special?

Also just learned you can have both square and round bombs out at the same time, after finding a shrine that required using that tactic.

Currently making my way to the thieves‘ camp for the Gerudo beast quest but side tracking for a few more shrines and such.

Oh also, having looked at my quest list... how hard are the Master Sword trials you get to by putting it back in it’s pedestal? I’m... okay but not great at the combat system. Is that quest what lets you shoot sword beams?

The Master Trials give a permanent boost to the Master Sword when you complete them; i *think* it’s just to its base damage when it’s not in it’s Activated mode, might affect how long it’s durability lasts too

I would say that they're reasonably hard, but not in a way that necessarily requires mastery of the combat system. You could theoretically probably beat it by being amazing at combat, but it's not like previous games that had pure combat gauntlets because the nature of BotW means most rooms are also environmental puzzles, and there's also an element of Eventide Isle type challenge in there because you start each trial from scratch. So, it's not just fighting a bunch of enemies in generic rooms like Twilight Princess' Cave of Ordeals.

I would say the second of the three challenges is probably the hardest, because the third has much tougher enemies but also provides some of the most powerful items in the game.

Octo is right about the rewards. Slightly more specifically, the first two trials increase Master Sword damage, the third increases damage and durability.

Also you can go in having powered up with defense or attack bonus food. I found I had no issue with the first trials, used attack bonuses on the second, and defense bonuses on the third.

As the other thread counts down the last days 'til TotK, I continue my LttPBotW...

Welp, I spent a couple hours carefully picking my way through the first trials, only to be insta-killed by the Hinox on floor 12 chucking a tree at me and lose all my progress. That was demoralizing.

So I went back to exploring a bit; checkout out the scary-looking labyrinth island to the northeast which really wasn't that bad, got its shrine and looted it of both its normal treasure and the DLC insta-teleport-anchor thing which has been super cool for checking out-of-the-way map spots without losing my elevation. Also got some rubber pants, and made myself some ancient armor that's better defense than anything else I had. Broke a couple of my best weapons brute-forcing a random fire Lynel somewhere... I suspect there's better ways to go about that. Didn't even get particular good loot off it; I thought the puzzle Korok looking for items on top of the Deku Tree might be looking for a Lynel Hoof, but I only got a horn I think.

Oh, earlier I'd finished off Yiga clan bit; the stealth segment was mercifully not too long at least, and the boss was good goofy fun once you figure out what's up with the fight. Continued the Gerudo quest and managed to totally screw up the sand seal follow-along mission the first time but nailed it on the second (I think I was trying too hard to direct the seal when it basically drives itself in that segment). Did the Camel dungeon which was fun with its multiple rotating sections, though I totally cheesed around a few puzzles with Revali's super-jump. Mad respect in general that this game just rolls with it whenever you completely side-step its intended paths. Thunderblight Ganon was a bit of a bastard but went down eventually.

Then I remembered that I had all but one of the memories, so I looked up a video and snuck/climbed a back way into Hyrule Castle to sneak into Zelda's study and get the last one. Also read her diaries for some nice back-story. Even with a lot of hearts and equipment that place is pretty dangerous though! High-tailed it out after angering a lightning Lynel accidentally. Then back to Impa and got the 13th memory, so that's all complete now yay (I hear it has a minor impact on the ending?).

Anyway the only main thing left to do is the Zora beastie so I guess I'm headed there next, though I also have a small handful of dangling shrine and miscellaneous quests still hanging about.

Lynel best practice is to stun it with an arrow to the eye, either by being fast or time-stop in the air after a fireball whizzes by, then running over and hopping on it's back for free hits while it tries to shake you off. Equip your highest damage weapon because it doesn't lose durability hitting it this way.

I'm currently replaying Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, and I think it is basically the Zelda equivalent to a Wario game: A parody of the regular series, with a similar overarching structure, but many differences in the gameplay due to the different abilities of the main character, and a focus on greedily acquiring as much money as possible through any means possible, rather than some noble quest to save the world. Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland might in fact have an even greater focus on greed than the Wario games, since Tingle literally dies if he runs out of money, and the world is almost completely inhabited by equally greedy people with whom you must negotiate, trying to get things from them for as little money as possible. But since I've played through the game once before, I do at least know that the final moral of the story is that greed is, in fact, not good.

"Tingle is Link's Wario" is something I never once imagined being the case, yet it makes complete and perfect sense.

Tingle had a Rupee grind serve as padding one time in a Zelda game that Nintendo didn't want to come across as too short and now he is forever cursed to be an avarice gremlin.
