Devolver Digital publisher sale on Steam right now. BROFORCE is 100% worth 3 bucks, but pretty much the entire catalog is AT LEAST 10% off, including pretty new games like Children of the Sun.

They're a great place to buy pre-owned games as well, since the games are still complete. I've ordered from them quite a few times.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is the Epic freebie this week! Highly recommend the game, and strongly recommend the season pass if you dig it.

A ginormous amount of games are on sale on the Eshop, including some actual Nintendo properties like Splatoon 3 and Tropical Freeze.

I had pretty mixed feelings on this game, but I will say that if you’re interested in the DLC characters, it’s better to get them early on in your playthrough. Each one adds a mini campaign of a few missions that are sprinkled in at various parts of the main story. Plus you’ll need lots of time to raise up their friendship levels, so you won’t want to wait until the end of the campaign.

What a weird game, though.

My one-line pitch for Midnight Suns is "Slay the Spire-style deckbuilding and card play with positioning and environmental elements in the missions; Fire Emblem: Three Houses with superheroes in between missions." If that sounds like your jam, you'll probably like it. Took a bit of getting used to but was a surprise favorite for me last year.

Oof you had me until three houses. So I need to run around for 30 mins to talk to everyone and, like, fish between missions?

No fishing, it's mostly conversational stuff. And you explore the island your home base is on, but more or less at your own pace. You'll find a lot of neat stuff and get a lot of cards and upgrades, so the benefits are tangible. And it takes a lot less time. I kinda bounced off how much of it there was in 3H and found it a lot more manageable in this; you can get to the next mission quickly when you want. Way less inventory management and stuff. The rough analog to the lessons is way snappier (pick a hero, do training with them, get reward and a screenshot of their match).

But you are trying to build relationships between your character and the heroes. You get various unlocks for everyone that way. Also the character writing is really quite good and the female version of the player hero is voiced by the Second Sister actress from Jedi: Fallen Order, who's very good (I played the male version, which was... fine; I'd replay the other way).

I thought the "run around the grounds" bits were more engaging than the actual combat, personally.

I really enjoyed the combat but kinda overdid it on side missions a few times and the grounds were a welcome break.

It was only a matter of time before enshittification came for Game Pass. Seems like the PC version is still going to have day-one releases, so for the time being it's still a decent deal. I don't maintain a subscription to Game Pass (or really anything), but I do occasionally sub for a month or two when there's a new release I want to try. If they bump the price up much more, I might not even bother doing that.

The Xbox 360 store closes at the end of the month so a lot of stuff is on sale, but weirdly only being released in batches?

Huh! I didn't even know the 360 store was still active!

There's quite a few things on there that haven't shown up on newer nonXbox systems or PC yet (to my knowledge anyway), so I'm gonna check that out!

edit: And of course my 360 decides to be a horrible fuck about actually letting me sign into XBox Live, despite changing my password, and despite not having 2 step authentication on my Microsoft account. 😡🤬 It could still throwing a fit because I transferred my original account into a different system because my original console red ringed on me. Maybe my account got corrupted somehow? LET ME GIVE YOU MONEY MICROSOFT!!!!

I dunno, $20 a month to try a bunch of games still seems pretty great. Also no one should ever pay full price for Gamepass, buy codes from eneba or cdkeys something. I guess I feel like it was an insanely good deal and now the pricing is just reasonable. Buy it for a month, try a bunch of things before they leave, then don't renew until there's something else you want.

This Wikipedia list should help with cross-referencing.

If you enjoy clicking through hypercard adventures and upgraded versions of such, ranging from "somewhat" to "very", Humble has almost every MYST game (including every* remake and sequel, except for the new Riven**) along with some classics like Cosmic Osmo and The Manhole for $20, which is more or less the sale price for MYST (2021) by itself.

*EDIT: To be technically correct, as is the best kind, this bundle includes the first remake, the remake of the 3D remake, and the modern remake

**EDIT PART 2: I just realized that a 20% off coupon for Riven (2024) is included as well. Have I missed anything else? Stay tuned!
