The DC Comics TV & Movie Thread - A Thread for Talking about Detective Comics Comics Television Shows and Movies

I like the new Batwoman. She’s got a compelling story and her actress has presence. I just wish she was free of the baggage of living in Kate Kane’s shadow and could just be her own character. It was lame how Kate wrote to Bruce every episode seeking his spiritual guidance, and it’s lame this Batwoman has to do the same with Kate.

I don’t know if this is true, but I want to believe it is

Oh speaking of CW DC shows, Supergirl Season 5 is finally on Netflix up here in Canadia.

I've heard mixed things about the season, and of course it's basically split into two halves, pre and post-Crisis. Still looking forward to seeing it.

I will watch the Snyder cut out of pure curiosity. But given how I felt about the other 2 movies he had control over, I can't imagine I'm going to suddenly think this one is fantastic. Maybe less of a dumpster fire, or perhaps smell a bit different?

That said, that's me. I am firmly of the camp that Everyone's Opinion Is Valid, so if you liked them and are excited about this, my opinion is not meant to take away from or belittle your enthusiasm.

I've really been looking forward to this, and a month's subscription to HBO Max is already more cost-effective than seeing it on a big screen. You may rest assured I'll tell you why it's good, but I will be unable to provide a comparison to the 2017 version.

Sounds very much like he's encouraging the toxic fandom to stroke his ego, too.

I imagine it is an annoying community because although I don't follow it closely I'm not aware of a large fandom that isn't, but that particular example of sending a lot of annoying tweets to the official HBO Max account and other corporate Warner Bros websites seems like fair game to me.

I don't see how that's particularly different than say the letter writing campaign and in person protests to get a third season of Star Trek:TOS, when staff on that show also bragged about how NBC was overwhelmed and had to hire more staff to deal with the volume of the mail because they couldn't operate normally due to the Save Star Trek campaign.

I think overwhelming official communications channels with large amounts of fan demand is a fairly bog standard tactic among fandoms, and I think it's basically fine. I think it's also basically fine for the creators to express happiness when they see this, whether it's Star Trek staff in the 60s or Zac Snyder now.

I agree as long as the messages aren't abusive towards the people reading them

Absolutely.

To be clear, I'm also not saying that there has been no abuse or harassment associated with this fandom. I am only saying that the reporting I've seen has not convinced me that Zack Snyder as an individual is uniquely bad on this front. (It has convinced me that he is maybe like . . . regular bad. Kind of hard to think of any rich person in charge or formerly in charge of a big property like this I would have no complaints about if I learned enough about them.)

So I started watching BATWOMAN SEASON 2 tonight.

DAMN that was some of the most obvious late-game rewriting I've ever seen.

It blows my mind that even with Kate Kane officially out of the picture, everybody STILL lets the bad lady just walk away every time they have her cold. Like, I don't know if that's a contractual thing or what, but seriously it's the official show drinking game at this point.

They REALLY got rid of Fake Bruce Wayne as fast as they could though.
Like.
Just backtracking the hell out of that idea.

I like new batwoman but it's hilarious to me that the entire justification for her being Batwoman is that "She taught Martial arts for YEARS!"
and I'm like "Well shit I technically taught Martial arts for DECADES so technically I'm more qualified to be a bat-themed superhero? Damn.

Anyways yeah it was okay as far as horrible trainwrecks go.
Looking forward to seeing if it has the guts to actually go all-in on all the social justice stuff it dedicated a whole scene to. Maybe even acknowledge that the Private Cop corporation and their billionaire owner/boss are... bad?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAaaaaaaahhhhhhh Heheheh yeah like THAT'LL Fuckin happen.

Fuck CW Writers.

I have now seen epsisode 2 and I'm happy to report that "Bad gal just strolls away after having a conversation with her enemies" count is now at 3.

I GET that everybody loves the Joker Interrogation scene from The Dark Knight but at least that movie had a REASON for batman and Joker to be in the same room.

It's really bad/dumb. Batman traveled the world training for a decade with elite assassins and martial artists. Batwoman... taught some karate classes at the Y and did a year or so in the clink. At least the show knows how dumb that is, because she keeps making an ass out of herself/keeps getting her ass handed to her. In the first three episodes, she would have died like 5 times already if it weren't for her super-suit protecting her. But she's got to have one of the worst, most blah origins stories since... the last Batwoman. 😂

C'mon BEAT - we all know that if you became a superhero (or supervillain) you would most likely be skeleton-themed.

I've been watching Doom Patrol on HBO Max and I'm almost done with the first season. No one sold me on this show being low-key Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (Mr. Nobody would fit right in as an arc-long Jojo's villain), but it rules and it also made me cry once, which is more than I can say for any other comic-related TV show.

Would watch BEATMAN Beyond, tbh
