Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).

  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.

  • Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

Well, I would be interested in playing the Yuffie DLC content for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, but since it's only available for PS5 and I doubt I'll be able to get one this month, I'm guessing June will be another "FFXIV and backlog" month

Octopus Prime

Astalon is a fake retro troid-em-up that looks a lot like La Mulana, and with art from the guy what made Dragon Half

Griftlands is also getting a Switch port this month and it’s Slay the Spire except it’s about scammin’ cons just as much as it’s about busting up space goblins with laser knives and the like

Legend of Mana Remastered and Mario Golf: Super Rush, basically. But given it's the month of E3, I'm sure a few surprises will show up.

I'm looking forward to Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection, finally giving me a good opportunity to play the "modern" NG games.

Edge of Eternity is another one that raises some unique curiosity out of me. Watching footage, I think it is best summarized as "what an indie jrpg looks like in an era where FF15 and DQ11 are pushing ever more open worlds and detailed visuals". If you are used to most indie jrpgs being flat and pixelated then this one might impress you. The creators claim inspiration from "Final Fantasy, Lost Odyssey, Xenogears, and Shadow Hearts" and Yasunori Mitsuda contributed to the soundtrack.

Legend of Mana Remastered for sure, here's the thread.

I really liked the demo for Chicory on Steam and plan to pick that up on June 10th.

I'm curious about Beasts of Maravilla Island for Switch. Don't know much about it but it looked really charming in the last Indie Direct so I'll watch for reviews and see about picking it up once they announce the price.

Today is Virtua Fighter day, as the visually revised Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown releases for all on PS4, and for free for PS Plus and PS Now members. The somewhat out of nowhere update to the game has revitalized interest and prominence for the series, at least for the moment, even if it lacks rollback netcode, and even if it isn't truly new outside of putting a fresh face on a 15-year-old game. It still falls so that VF5 is one of the best fighting games ever made, then and now, so presenting it as is goes a long way through its inherent merits alone. Everyone eligible to grab it should.

Cotton Reboot! came out in February as scheduled for Japan, and June 25th is its European debut (North America may have to wait until July if things stand). Very much looking forward to it.

DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power adapts an animated series based on a fictional universe and its assorted characters that I'm barely familiar with, which is part of why I'm interested in it to begin with: a Switch-exclusive open world brawler with an ensemble cast of playable women and only women, based on a license that's very directly targeted at girls? This doesn't happen every day, and the ambition seems there for a game that by its nature is destined to be discriminated against on a general level. I only really needed to know that upon executing a perfect dodge a big JUST sfx appears to be sold on it. It is being published this week by Nintendo if that is a vote of confidence, and the developer is Toybox, the studio started by Harvest Moon creators who have mostly worked on Switch.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade - definitely picking this bad boy up. The game already looks great on PS5; I'll be interested in replaying it and seeing how things like the textures were updated. And the Yuffie stuff all looks fab.

PS5s are still hard to get a hold of, but they still keep coming out. A couple friends of mine have managed to get orders placed for them lately, so don't give up hope those of ya who want one.

Legend of Mana Remastered - I don't think I have time for this one, but I'll keep an eye out for it. But my backlog is so full already. And while there isn't much in June that interests me, July looks packed to the brim.

This game actually looks pretty neat. I dunno if it would be worth full price, but it's something I'll keep an eye on and maybe pick up with a price drop. I actually really enjoy the TV show. It's a pretty solid kids show. It's fun, it's mostly positive and uplifting, and the actors all do a great job. The show itself looks great, and there's just some really solid/fun versions of classic DC characters in it too. It's available on Hulu, Netflix, and Cartoon Network's website (for some reason it's the one DC cartoon that isn't on HBO Max, but w/e) and I highly recommend people give it a try. ESP if you have kids. My only real critiques of the show is that the opening theme song is not good, and I'm not a big fan of this show's Carol Ferris, but that's really it. Everything else is gold.

Mark your calendars for June 18th too: the inimitable (except by its own sequel) Shoot the Bullet, first of the non-fighting Touhou spinoffs is by some good graces making its way to Steam. It's notable because this is the oldest series release so far reintroduced to that marketplace, hailing from 2005--the assumption has been that the very oldest Windows games had been off-limits for reasons of shaky compatibility and lost source code. Shoot the Bullet is right on the cusp of the oldest Windows Touhou generation, so who can say what that might mean for the rest of them. At any rate, please enjoy danmaku photography journalism.

Legend of Mana is definitely one I plan to pick up. Ys IX (Switch) and Mario Golf Super Rush are coming out late enough I'll be getting them in July, and while I am interested in Cotton Reboot! I'll probably hold off a bit on that as I want to get the 'Vania Anniversary Collector's Edition this month and that'll be most of my disposable income for the month.

I'm really looking forward to trying this out. In the interim since Final Showdown came out in 2012, I have now played a decent amount of Tekken and finally feel equipped to understand the differences between the 2 franchises. I'm hoping that VF5 will have a reduced movelist for all characters compared to how massive it is for most Tekken characters, but my memories from playing it in 2012 are not at all clear anymore.

I never played FFVIIR on hard like I was planning to, so I might do that with the Intergrade, but more likely I'll just play the Yuffie DLC. New Guilty Gear is coming too and while I have mixed feelings on it as a Guilty Gear game, it is a new ArcSys fighting game...it's just like...not a proper GG. But that's fine, albeit a bit disappointing. I've already barely touched MonHun and still have FFXIV as well as some other games too so I was already at Too Much To Play™ and now am approaching Way Too Much™

I think I'll just post my list for this month. It's a bit of a lift but it's my birthday tomorrow so why not.

FF7R Intergrade + Yuffie DLC
Astalon: Tears of the Earth
Legend of Mana
Mario Golf: Super Rush
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Of those, looking forward to mostly the last one, having never played a R&C game. I do absolutely adore the Mario Golf games, though.

I tried the demo for Scarlet Nexus and while I enjoyed the gameplay it's a bit too anime for my blood. Might be worth a look at the end of the year when the price comes down and I can just stream Spotify or something.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX.

Also Ratchet and Mario Golf, maybe Zombies Ate My Neighbors (never played it before).

I forgot ZAMN is happening this month. Seeing how much the physical costs on that one.

Has anyone played much of Griftlands or heard/read a good discussion of it in its full release state? In addition to the Switch port, it's also just out of Early Access now on PC.

And right now you can get it for $5.99 on Epic. And if you care a lot about what launcher your games are connected to, Klei will apparently let people who buy it on Epic get a free Steam code! I am very tempted. Invisible Inc. is one of my favorite games and Mark of the Ninja is also great, so I am pretty positively predisposed toward Klei games.

While I am interested in picking up Griftlands, Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection, and Zombies Ate My Neighbors! I'll probably wait on those since July is so packed this year. I will definitely grab Legend of Mana with my expiring gold coins though.

I'm pretty sure @Mogri played it during Early Access, but I do not know if he's played yet as a full release.

Yeah, Sal and Rook were basically complete as far as I know. Haven't had a chance to play the full release yet.

My maximally pessimistic take is that the game is too story-focused to be as endlessly replayable as its peers, but the story does have branching paths, meaning you'll want to play each story at least twice. (And that assumes you always win.) So even if you're only aiming to experience the story, there's a good chunk of content.

I spent a lot of time with Griftlands in early access and I think it's an extremely cool game. It doesn't quite have the mechanical chops or replayability of Slay the Spire, but the semi-procedural role-playing aspect is really unique and tons of fun. When you get to the end of a fight, you have to decide whether to spare or kill your enemies. If you let them live, they might hold a grudge and come back for you later on. But if you kill them, they are removed from the world and you'll probably make enemies out of all their friends. It's a really cool system, and that's just one part of it!

If I had a PS5 I would be interested in Final Fantasy VII Remake Again and Ratchet and Clank, but sadly I've had no luck on that front.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I think I can sum up the main negative I'm hearing both here and elsewhere as "it won't make you want to play it for 100s of hours," and honestly that's mostly a positive for me. The two main reasons I haven't gotten into Slay the Spire is because I don't like the aesthetic and I'm pretty sure it would make me want to play it for 100s of hours. The Griftlands aesthetic is much more appealing to me and (for better or for worse, although better in my personal case) doesn't appear to be as endless, so I think I'll give it a go.
