Final Doom
Thanks!I'm glad that you went outside the box, Q 3, heaven knows I tried to with my cover songs, but Telecomm feels a bit too environmental/background to catch my attention!
Nier XIV
Part of the reason why I nominated it and the one-two punch of In The Balance/Pilgrimmage is that what the main composer for FFXIV does is use leitmotif very well. Each expansion has one main theme and a few sub-themes that get worked and reworked into multiple tracks in different styles, that serve different purposes. It's really good and goes a long way towards making the game's narrative compelling during it's IMO extraordinarily boring lore dump and/or exposition heavy phases. FFXIV wouldn't be as good as it is without it's awesome soundtrack work. Oblivion is a microcosm of this; it's the same theme as a "epic" boss theme (more of march I guess), and then...the 2nd half happens and it's totally unexpected. These days that fight is a total pushover and ends within like 30 seconds of the phase transition, but back when it was new it took a long time and you'd hear the whole thing and it was hilarious and awesome in equal measure. The phase transition is still peak FFXIV phase transition content. I do like the first half, for what it's worth, but do concede that it's ultimately kinda nothing special. The 2nd half is absolutely great thoughThe Days When Shiva Was There
I feel like the real meat of Shiva doesn't start until halfway (to my ears I really find the first half/leadup to be generic chanting) but the second half is so good and unique that it carries it. (unless you really just wanted the second half, like has been submitted in previous Thunderdomes/cover Thunderdomes) I'm glad that you went outside the box, Q 3, heaven knows I tried to with my cover songs, but Telecomm feels a bit too environmental/background to catch my attention!
