Never forget that "X-MEN" isn't beatable on the Nomad due to the lack of a reset button, hahaha!

This portable rabbit hole is going to lead me to getting a Turbo Express eventually, which would be a super dumb (and expensive!) purchase for me because most of the Turbografx games I care about are CD based.

It would be a cool piece to have, yeah, but... agree that most of the great games are on CD and not HuCard.

fwiw I switched over to Eneloops recently and there's a really good bundle with 8 AA Pros, 2 AAA Pros, and a quick charger (charges up to four batteries at once at about an hour per AA). It's an expensive initial investment but I'm glad I got it.
So if I put four batteries in the charger, they'd all be charged in an hour, or would it take four hours? Because if I could charge all four batteries in an hour, that would be way faster than the batteries and charger I have now haha

In my experience, it takes several hours to fully charge them, but I don't know if some battery chargers are faster than mine. It's not a huge issue because they last a really long time on a single charge, and I have a few sets that I can cycle through as needed. I've been using them in my Xbox controllers for years and years and I much prefer them to controllers with built-in batteries (looking at you, DualSense).

Well, the Nomad (which is what I'm primarily using lately) takes a massive SIX double As, so being able to only charge four at a time currently is annoying, because I can't just charge all the batteries I need, say, overnight.

Though with another charger, I could... I did ask for the eneloop pro set for Christmas, so maybe I'll get it then.

My current charger definitely does not charge two batteries in two hours, I can tell you that much. I'll be getting some eneloop pros for sure. Thanks!

This looks interesting, although it might not be much of an upgrade.

@Kazin this might be your answer

Macho Nacho got 7 hours out of it.

Yep, I watched the premiere of that haha. He teased it on Patreon a few days ago, which thrilled me because I just got the dang Nomad and followed his guide to modding it lol

I'd heard of this battery pack, but the website you buy it from says it will destroy 5v modded Nomads, which mine and Titos are, yet it worked just fine for him, so I'll be picking this up.

Dunno man, sounds pretty alarming to me
Tito said in the video his Nomad was the exact one he modded and I followed his instructional video exactly, so it looks to be fine...

It's just, you know. Seven whole hours. I barely get three as is, and I wouldn't have to constantly open up the stupid battery compartment to recharge them.

My cousin commissioned this GBA from me (Golden Sun pictured because it's apparently the first game he's gonna play when he gets it), which happens to be the first time I installed the new HDMI out mod:

It's not too difficult an install, though I did cut a bit too much out of the shell for the mini HDMI port lol. It's not too bad though. I'm actually pretty impressed with the image quality on the TV - I may be buying one of these for myself.

As I type this, my Gameboy Color with a laminated IPS screen has been at max brightness and about half volume for three hours while running Oracle of Ages off my Everdrive x7 with the Eneloop Pros you recommended. These things are no joke. Thank you!

I'd be terrified of screwing up battery polarity, but maybe try emailing Retrosix to see what they think about your plan. They may just brush you off with a "don't do that" but maybe they'll say "we don't recommend doing that and will not accept responsibility for breaking your Wavebird, but doing XYZ might work" so it may be worth a shot.

I'd be extremely wary of messing with battery wiring unless I was certain that I wasn't going to start a fire, and even then I'd be nervous. Be careful of the polarity!

Protip: If you have a Sega Genesis game that boots sometimes but not all the time, and can freeze up with the slightest jostling of the system, you probably have a failing capacitor. I bought a copy of Shining Force and it needed a new battery, which is super easy to diagnose. But, after a clean, the game wouldn't consistently boot on either my modded Nomad or stock Genesis model 1. It would sometimes boot, but more often than not it would fail. Replace that capacitor! Before doing so, if I moved the Nomad much, the game would freeze. After having replaced the capacitor in the cart, I can literally shake my Nomad and the game still runs just fine. Check them capacitors, y'all!

Absolutely thrilled to point out that if you install this Sega Genesis s-video mod, there are potentiometers on the board that can be adjusted to fix the image. Mine was SUPER, SUPER dark when I first installed it, and I worried I screwed up the install or had a bad Genesis or something. Nope! Just needed an adjustment, and now my Genesis output is sharp as hell.

Credit to this post on reddit. Glad I went searching for it. Was really bummed my system looked crappy, but now it doesn't!

Fearful asymmetry
I've tried Console5 S-video mods in the past, but try as I might, I just could not get a proper video signal out of my Genesis. Maybe having adjustable resistors would make a big difference.

The NESRGB is a very difficult install.

I've burned an NES unit on one already about a year ago, and the one I'm trying to install now into my Twin Famicom unit somewhat works, in that the game actually plays, but the graphics are a garbled mess, which usually means (as far as I can tell) that the PPU is bad. Well, I bought a PPU on eBay that was listed on eBay as working and get the same result! So maybe I didn't bust my PPU getting it out, and I *should* be able to fix the thing if I can figure out how, since the cartridge reads, and when I press start and move Mario around with the controller, a vaguely Mario shaped box runs around, jumps, and can get killed by the first Goomba in Mario 1.

So, if anyone has a Twin Famicom diagram that will let me test continuity between the Twin Famicom board and the NESRGB board, hit me up, it'd probably save my Twin Famicom and me a ton of time lol

I am begging third party manufacturers of Nomad screen lenses - BEGGING - to get the size right so they fit in the system. I broke yet another lens trying to install a new one into my Nomad, since I'd scratched the old one when I installed it (for the same reason! The damn thing didn't fit properly!), and this one cracked so I had to remove it, scaring the shit out of me thinking I broke my expensive screen mod (I didn't, it's fine). Fucking hell, I shouldn't have to sand it down to fit my Nomad, it's not like there are any other Nomad models that have different size lenses, jesus!

My new, taller lens for my Neo Geo Pocket Color fits perfectly though, and now my lens doesn't cut off the top two or three rows of pixels. Hooray!

This is something I've run into recently as well. I don't like how the default mounting method for the MODE requires trimming the feet to get it in, and I ended up ordering a mounting bracket from SAG that didn't line up very well with the screw holes. I get manufacturing tolerances, but yeesh.
