DQV is so good.

Bianca is like "the destined" pick, and that's who I went with...in the DS version. I know she's stronger in physical combat and can use whips, which is useful, but is less capable in the magic department like Flora is iirc. Flora is not the "one" so to speak, but I haven't seen what happens with her story-wise.

I'm sure someone more versed will explain in better, haha.

Meanwhile, I was playing XI S and loving it but kinda just fell off playing games altogether this month, but I hope to pick it back up in May.

Based on Tim Rogers' advice, I'm playing Dragon Quest XI S as a "bath" game, i.e. what I play between my "bath" (I don't actually take one - he points to this as a fixture of Japanese culture for winding down) and bedtime, putting in an hour to an hour and a half right before bed.

I know I shouldn't care, but I'm broken and want to check my pace: I
just added Hendrick to my party and dispelled the darkness over Heliodor
at 50 hours. How long until the
first
ending, approximately?

Before you ask, yes, I constantly calculate the number of pages left to any book I'm reading.

There's... a bit left. I wanna say 30-50 depending on how much you wanna do.

Right, I have already played at least a dozen hours since that event and just now got the game's flying thing, then again my pace has been pretty leisurely all told, with stops in 2D land from time to time.

There's a couple of bosses in DQ5 that I've abused save states with in order to get favorable rolls on their attacks (volcano boss and Jami) because A) The game lets you cruise on a gentle difficulty curve and then BAM, a fuck you boss out of nowhere and B) Your success against them seems to depend entirely on what monsters you happen to have captured, which is kind of not great?

Overall I'm enjoying the game, but that one thing is kind of frustrating. Although maybe I'm supposed to be level grinding? I dunno.

I still haven’t meaningfully dug into the postgame. One of the bosses I ran into just curbstomped me and I didn’t really relish the amount of time I figured would be involved in getting myself in good enough shape to take it down. I’m sure if I just poke around enough I’ll catch up soon enough .

Started playing Dragon Quest 3 on Switch and i'm enjoying it! The new translation makes a ton of difference - at least that's what my memory says. It has been ages since i've played the GBC version. And now that KCar mentions it, Dragon Quest games are great "bath" games, aren't they? :)

I had problems with DQXI, but i want to replay it some time. Now that i'm free from my expectations for it to be a specific game, i'm sure i'll enjoy it more. (And i mean, i cried two times playing it. Can't say bad things about a game that made me cry.)

I ferl like I'm closing in on the endgame of DQV SFC and I'm wondering what the recommended levels are for the final dungeon and boss.

I wonder if levelling was adjusted at all, since the SFC game had a 3 party member max? I would imagine that adding a 4th party member slot would have involved some degree of rebalancing, but I don't know where.

edit: Found a Japanese guide that mentions different versions of the final boss but the recommended level is the same (and agrees with mid-upper 30s), so it appears they changed the stats that correspond to levels and presumably the encounter design but not the level progression itself.

Oof. that's about 7-10 levels higher than I am right now at the Dragon's Tower. Any suggestions for a good grinding spot anyone?

I never pay attention to recommended levels in these games and find it tends to just work out fine, but it looks like there are Metal Kings in the final dungeon and that's the best place to level up. So, whether you want to level up without progressing or just keep playing the game, you want to go to the same place in the end. My suggestion would be just try to explore the dungeon normally and hope it works out, only stopping to level up if you absolutely have to. If you find where metal kings tend to pop up in the process of doing that, go back there if the final boss seems too difficult.

Not as such, but you've got little to worry about anyway

Thanks to you both.

At least 2 of these:
Teaser for DQ12
DQ Builders 3
DQ Monsters something-or-other

long shots:
New DQ Mystery Dungeon
Remake of DQ9

Extreme long shot:
Rocket Slime anything

I wouldn't expect an announcement of a new gacha game; DQTact is not even a year old in Japan (only 4 months for the rest of the world), and there's already been a closed beta test for the gacha based on Adventure of Dai. I mean mayyyybe they'll announce a global release of DQ Walk but that doesn't seem likely imo.
