Teacher! Teacher! You forgot to assign us homework!

Nintendo Switch Sports is the headliner this week, which really should have been the headliner last week, but, well, I missed it because the name and cover-art are painfully generic! This is either a remake, or sequel, or however you want to classify it, to everybodys grandmas favorite video game; Wii Sports! But now it's got a less distinctive art style as there are no Miis in the game and also it's got MORE games! And also the existing games are technically improved. But bowling is still present, and BY GUM, that's the important one.

The others are nice, but, y'know... priorities.

Wildcat Gun Machine is a twin sticky shoot-shoot game that looks much like Enter the Gungeon, except with fewer pixels and also the monsters are all goopy goo-skelly guys instead of cute little anthropomorphic bullets. So there you have it!

Citizen Sleeper is a tough to describe game, but real neat 'un. It's a half text adventure and half survive on a wildly unsafe space station game, but your likelihood to do all that is entirely dependent on dice rolls AND ALSO you're a robit just trying to make it work in this crazy ol' future world full of corporations and shaky back-alley dealings. It's got Narrative-Heavy Tabletop Board Game pouring out of every vein, and it's from the peeps as what made In Other Waters (which was Subnautica, but without graphics), so they've got a good handle on marrying weird high concept sci-fi adventures to video games.

And speaking of unconventional board-style video games, we have Wingspan: European Expansion (which is a bundle, admittedly, but still), which is a deck-buildy birds-em-up where you must use RANDOM CHANCE as prescribed by playing cards in order to create maintain and expand a nascent BIRD EMPIRE. Or... like... zoo, I guess. However you want to classify Bird Dominion. It's really hard to parse what's going on in a single screenshot without foreknowledge of the game, but one card reads "lay one egg on any bird" in a screenshot, so there you go.

Rifftrax: The Game is a party game that kind of any number of Jackbox party games where you write a funny joke and everyone votes on which funny joke is most chuckle-worthy, but with old clips from bad movies. Or if you're bad at making your own jokes, you can just use the clips from Rifftrax commentaries and use other peoples. I guess you can also use this to edit Mike Nelson out of extant episodes, so... that might be worth looking into.

That's what Tuesday Morning Octo knows about!

There are Miis! You have the option to choose the fancy avatars or any Mii you have.

I've been too sick to play anything other than bowling but it's been a lot of fun. @Lumber Baron has played most of the other sports and enjoyed them too. I really recommend this game. I believe other sports are coming later on too.

Wingspan is great and I was in the beta testing for this expansion and it's awesome. However if you aren't familiar with the base game I would definitely play that before trying this, it's much more complicated (large birds go sideways and take up two spots on the board which is chaos). I loved it since I've played so much of the base game but for a new player it would be overwhelming I think.

I believe the plan is that as long as one person has the expansion they can invite friends to play (if those friends own the base game) so if people want to try it on Steam sometime let me know. I will confirm this once it's out though.

Also I'm going to post this bird techno dance battle again because I love it. (Man I wish we could embed Instagram stuff, and if we can please explain.)

Citizen Sleeper looked interesting to me, but was waiting on a review. Also I should be getting my Steamdeck this week hopefully, so I might not get around to it anytime soon anyway...

The thing to know about Switch Sports is that the soccer ball is bigger than you are, and you can do a move where you jump at it headfirst and land face-first on the grass. It is the only move worth using.

Looks like it's getting a lot of positive praise. I guess I could use something to play on my Switch while my Steamdeck is downloading things...

I'm not on hiatus, I've just been preoccupied with other stuff on the week before my birthday. If anyone would like to make donations of US eShop funds or Animal Crossing Amiibo for my b-day DM me. Anyway here's some shoots I've been sitting on for a couple of days.

Wildcat Gun Machine is a colorful isometric shooter where a lady guns down loads and loads of monsters.

Casino Heaven: Slots & Bonus Games is a port of one of those mobile slot machine games. This one has a Daisy Duke expy and zombies in it.

Super Mike: Classic Adventure Game is a 2D platformer starring some guy with an expression like he desperately wants to act like he's your best friend.
BXXYEr4.jpeg

Best Month Ever! is a late 1960s road trip where a single mother near death's door tries to find her son a place to live and teach him how to survive in this horrible racist hell world.

Wingspan+European Expansion+Seasonal Decorative Pack is a card game all about luring exotic birds to your nature preserve that has DLC for seasonal goods and European birds and locales included!

RiffTrax: The Game is a multiplayer party game based on a series of commentary tracks all about making fun of bad movies. It's basically MST3K without the sci-fi bits and robot puppets, right down to having MST3K cast.

Shame one of the people behind these commentaries is a transphobic fascist.

Citizen Sleeper is a sci-fi simulation adventure where you are an escaped robot trying to survive on a lawless space colony.

Chefy-Chef is a platformer where a chef explores otherworldly locales to collect the ingredients necessary to craft his favorite dish.

And our Arcade Archives game this time is Fighting Hawk, a SHOOTER with jets and tanks.

Nothing against SHMUPs, but please understand that unless a SHMUP has something like gothic lolitas or Moai or giant sea creatures my tools are limited.

This looks like it could be really powerful and well done, but I'm wary of how such a difficult topic is handled. Definitely one I'll be looking into though.
