The phrase "a piece of candy" suggests that, somewhere, there's one BIG candy and they just bag up tiny parts of it.
Well, ordinarily, I just restrict these threads to the Switches new releases, for convenience mainly, but I'd be doing a collective disservice to the WHOLE WIDE WORLD if I didn't mention NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139, a gussied up and BETTER THAN EVER re-release of Nier! I think it's specifically the Japanese version of Nier, so you've got a Sephiroth and not a Conan, but either you, you befriend a book, a skellington and a lady in tiny clothes and you go off on subversive adventures to save the lady in your life from a spooky ghost dude. And then you do it all again and feel TERRIBLE about it. Then you keep on doing it because, well, all those endings aren't going to obtain themselves!
Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is the perfect game for the end of April! The trailer wouldn't load, so I'm making SOME DEGREE of conjecture here, but It's a Zeld-em-up where you're a l'il Turnip who refuses to pay taxes, and now has to do some dungeon diving and puzzle solving in order to settle his income debt before he's THROWN IN THE HOOSEGOW. I'm kind of reminded of Ittle Dew, in terms of tone if not content. And, buddy, that's a POSITIVE MENTAL ASSOCIATION if ever I heard one
Picross S6 is the sixth Picross collection on Switch. Or at least sixth from this particular series of Picross puzzle games.
I've run out of new ways to describe these things *years* ago.
If it weren't for Nier up there, Touhou Hyouibana ~Antimony of Common Flowers would easily be the hardest title to write out this week. But Yoko Taro saw a hill to climb and he reached the top of it, so it has to settle for second place. Unlike most Touhou games, which I infer to be competitive bullet-hell shooters, this one appears to be a regular ol' fighting game, with all them touhous in there. But still a bullet hell affair
Smelter is, in fact, the game I'm most jazzed for this week. From the trailer it looks not dissimilar to Actraiser, if its components were Shantae and Tower Defense, instead of Rastan and Sim City. Take control of Eve (the one from the Bible) who partners with a demon, in order to beat the ever-cussin' mustard out of every critter on the nascent Earth in order to save her husband from some spooky lookin' anime guy.
Next up, available either individually or bundled together ina three pack, if the Atelier Mysterious Trilogy! Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book, Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey and Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Painting all DX form! Which I'm assuming means some manner of extra DLC. I ain't never been able to get into this series, but I certainly made an effort with Ryza, but I know it's got plenty of fans and WELL SIR< now those same fans can get ports of these three games on another platform.
Infinite Adventures is a dungeon crawler of the first person variety! And an art-style I would describe as "From a How to Draw Manga guide book" What with you building a team of various Peeps and sending them into a dungeon for loot and running back to town constantly because you are certain to perish if you allow your hubris to triumph. I also call shenanigans on the title because the dungeon is 24 floors deep, which is hardly "infinite", now is it?
Buildings Have Feelings Too is another one of those games that defies simple explanation. I guess it's a city building game, except the buildings are all sentient and friendly and you have to manage their emotions as well while you build up the population. Which I guess is less outlandish than my original thought that it was a dating sim, for office buildings.
I'm far less at sea with Shantae, at least partially because I've played it a bunch of times! This is the original game, presented in all eight bits that the GBC was capable of, EXCEPT it's actually on the Switch! Which is at least twice as powerful! This port also includes the GBA content (a new Transformation Dance and a slightly better color palate, IIRC). I don't think they fixed the West/East thing though, but it's not really a bug if you remember that the game world is circular.
ANWAY; troid your way through scenic Sequin Land in order to find a bunch of macguffins in order to thwart a pirate queen from her dastardly deeds! Get kind of frustrated because they were still hammering out the kinks in the series back then!
The Skylia Prophecy is ALSO a troid-em-up with an all female playable cast that looks like it uses FAR fewer bits than the console is capable of. 16 or thereabouts, specifically. Y'gotta monster castle full of skellingtons and presumably a dracula of some stripe. You know, one of them games.
Dungholes is a puzzle game of the sort that I'd normally skip right over, kinda a low-rent Lolo or Chips CHallenge kind of thing as you're in a hole-filled dungeon, but I decided to mention it just because it's called Dungholes and I am always about 8 years old, psychologically.
Dungholes, *snrk*
And one more troid-em-up to round out the week, we have Moon Raider. Which is one of those, except on the moon, starring a space lizard girl. It's got a bit more Mega Man to its energy than usual for the genre, and, in fact, don't look too shabby. But it's also from one of those publishers that routinely knocks the prices of all their games down to pennies, so even if that weren't discouraging on its own, wait three weeks and it'll have a 99% discount that will last for 1000 days.
