Cyberpunk 2077

Crazy how CDPR went from darling of the industry to punchline in 5 years. I wonder what John Romero's thoughts on the situation are.

Edit: And now I went and did this.

I'm honestly not surprised that there are gamers out there who don't understand the concept of a refund. Not sure how much of that is entitlement and how much is only having the context of food/perishables refunded or Amazon/whoever not asking for the product back.

Holy crap, the original version of this comic is old enough to drink. BRB, gotta go post in the feelin' old thread.

Xbox and Best Buy are now offering refunds (even on opened physical copies) until the 21st.
Seems like a scuzzy, cynical policy to me imo. A lot of people that aren’t plugged into GAMERNEWS aren’t going to unwrap their copies, or figure out there’s something wrong with the game until they start playing the game themselves until after Christmas. So that 21st date is utterly worthless to most people, and is more about manipulating optics than actually helping.

did their best!
That's true, but like, if I were Xbox and Best Buy I would be like "nah, this is CDPR's problem, they can fix it."

Sure, but the 21st was the original end date of the refund period CD Projekt proposed I believe.

Streets don't get that empty in say, San Francisco, even at midnight during a locked down pandemic. But in a cyberpunk dystopian future where overcrowding is only going to get worse, somehow the streets are this barren?

It depends on where you are. Parts of the city are crawling with people and cars, others not so much. It's mentioned in the game that the population of Night City is in decline, losing something like 30% since 2070. There appear to be housing developments that are half-finished or otherwise unused on the outskirts of town.

That video is right in the heart of the city, though, so I'm not sure why it's so barren. There's an NPC density setting on PC, which might explain it.

Bill Gates once said, 8mb of save space is all that anybody with a copy of Cyberpunk would ever need.

As funny as it is to see all these truly, truly terrible bugs, I do feel bad for the people who were looking forward to this game in a terrible year that has had very few notable pieces of media to momentarily escape in. Sure, those people should have been able to see the numerous red flags preceding the launch over these past few years, but I feel for some of the people who wanted a big sci-fi RPG to play.

Yeah but you see there's a thing about that particular audience.

And there were dozens of astonishing game releases this year, indies and AAA alike. Even if this one had been completely bug-free, no one should be hinging their personal happiness on one commercial product, but CDPR knew exactly the kind of audience who would and decided to target them hard.

Also the writing has been on the wall for months that the game was coming in hot, undercooked, and rushed. CDPR was doing an increasingly poor job that they were hoping blind hype would cover up that they were serving up a dog's breakfast

I feel like maybe you didn't watch the whole video.

I did. I didn't realize that Wist was making a joke about Zef's joke; the streets are unusually barren even before the launch.

I want you to know that I really appreciate your posts in this thread. Please keep updating us. I especially would like to hear how they handle the trans bartender’s side quests.

I finished her questline. It was... well, I fucked up and it was kind of depressing, but not in a way that had to do with Claire's representation, which seemed pretty well handled (at least from the perspective of a cis guy... it's certainly possible I missed some red flags). I'll probably make a larger spoiler post about it later.

One cool thing: She was voiced by Maddie Taylor.

I'm surprised this didn't get posted yet but! Hey, who could have forseen this extremely probable turn of events?!

It's Bioware and Mass Effect Andromeda/Anthem all over again, but maybe even worse? Or equal? Who knows...but yeah, read the article and the Twitter thread. It's insanely stupid, and it sucks that we can never have nice things.

Although Cyberpunk was announced in 2012, the company was then still mainly focused on its last title and full development didn’t start until late 2016, employees said. That was when CD Projekt essentially hit the reset button, according to people familiar with the project.

It's almost like making The Witcher 3 doesn't change the fact that crunch is a critical failure of management!

This alongside that video statement about the state of the game and how the management takes responsibility and how people shouldn't blame the dev team... while blaming every problem individually on the QA and devs they crunched to hell and back. I'm not going to link it because it's linked in that article and is right on their twitter. Absolutely ridiculous.
