While Yoshida’s comments about Final Fantasy 16’s development status are encouraging, it still doesn’t sound like the game is pegged for release in 2022.
I think they are trying to push Forspoken, as Kirin mentioned, but otherwise it's kind of a small handful of B-listers -- Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, that other new IP tactics game, Front Mission remake, Live-a-Live remake -- so I don't think they have a known Big Release if FF16 isn't it.If it's not released in 2022, it makes me wonder what S-E's big release is going to be for this year, provided they have one.
I've got a really bad feeling about that one. It looks like SE sunk a lot of money and time into this game, but it's an unproven IP (and gamers in general don't like taking risks on new IPs), from the FFXV team that already has an iffy reputation among vocal fans, it's got a main character that looks really interesting but is also a female minority so it's going to be the target/inspire a lot of a lot of bad faith complaints from the wrong crowd, and so far of what they've shown of the game, the story doesn't immediately sound like much of a draw and the open world looks kinda empty. Feels like a big money sink for a company that's already struggling *hard* with cash atm. Best case scenario I can see is that they manage to convince MS to pay them a bunch of money for gamepass exclusivity or something to recoup costs.Well, that very article reminded me we’re supposed to be getting Forspoken in October, the Luminous productions game that looks like taking FF ideas in a completely action/parkour direction. Interested in how that one turns out. Guess at some point I’ll actually have to buy a PS5 or something.
Amusing if true, especially given that Ifrit was more or less explicitly Satan in FFXV.Whoops, didn't see that we have a dedicated thread. To cross-post from the FF General thread:
I haven't played a Final Fantasy game since 13, but that new trailer looks kinda sick? It looks like the conceit is that the classic FF summons are just... people who can turn into kaiju and then beat the shit out of armies/each other? And I think the trailer is implying that your MC is Ifrit? I'm down to be Ifrit. Colour me tentatively intrigued.
The Combat Director has previous credits working on Dragon's Dogma and Devil May Cry 5 (plus a bunch of "Planner" credits from 2000s-era Capcom fighters), and the footage from this trailer certainly makes it seem button heavy. But also, Yoshi-P has said before they are trying to make sure non-action gamers can still play it successfully. I'm sure we'll found out eventually what that entails. Is FF XVI combat straight up combos and button mashing?
Now I'll be disappointed if Ramuh doesn't turn out to be an eight year old girl.My question from this trailer: Will they let ladiesjunctiondominantate male eikons and vice versa. I love big chonky accountant guy, will we get big chonky lady!!
I think it's fair to say that what you are describing is representative of the average detractor viewpoint.I think some of the developers might have seen Game of Thrones.
As someone with limited exposure to the franchise, I have to ask: Does this look like Final Fantasy to fans of the games? It seems too grim for a series where an octopus tries to drop a weight on a lady during an opera.
