Default Linking Up

Well, here we are in the last spire, let's call it the Cathedral Spire. You'll see in a second but it's just this spiralling ramp up to the top. There are some consoles along the way, but none of them seem to do much but the one at the bottom:

Yes, it does Low.

And the other side of the console has another recess that looks like it would fit another life crystal. So, I'm going to need two of those. Hopefully Brink hasn't found that giant stash...

Let's go ahead and connect this thing to the rest of the spires. Probably a light bridge console at the top.

Yup, except some critter has made a nest there. What do?

Low has no more fucks to give.

And all the spires are connected. I bet something happens in the center there.

Okay, what next? That's right! Life crystals. They're in the Musuem Spire IIRC

With that done we head over to the Tomb Spire:

Yup, I've been avoiding this, but it is time to try and talk to the alien again! Here is hoping Robbins can understand and talk with him:

That's the spirit Robbins!

The name of my next band is 'Spacetime Six.'

Well, maybe for YOUR people. But humans, can do anything! Like anything. And usually much better than the people who have been doing it forever. Especially white, male humans!

ABSOLUTELY. Humans do think that.

Pfft... What do you know! You're not even human!

We'll show this alien chump how a real species does it!

Default More of this Guy...

We are still talking to the once and future dead alien still. Robbins feel the need to ask it about the big spider thing that attacked/captured her:

How does it know which one captured her? He's been dead for millions of years?

That's sort of ominous... Enough chatter. Where is the missing piece?!

I understand that you'll realize humans are the BEST!

What a pushover. He then drops a rode with the shape/color code we need.

We'll see who helps who here in the end!

So cheery that one.

This will show us wear the missing component is, huh? To the man room then!

Default Unlocking the Last Secret?

Low punches the symbols into the map device:

Okay, so where is that again? Guess it is time to go wander around some... I'll catch up with y'all later when I find it.

I still don't know Low!
.
.
.
Okay, I found it. It's beyond the room where Robbins was webbed up:

Easy Peasy! I like to say I'd have noticed that triangle on the rock even if the alien hadn't told me but I don't even recall every coming here before now...

Okay! Let's make some magic!

Put the piece in, power it up, save a long dead alien race, and then home by dinner!

Ugh! Not Brink! That guy is the worst! I thought he said if we left him alone he would leave us alone?

Oh, no that absolutely makes sense. I don't want to give Brink my crystals though.

Oh good, Low doesn't want to either.

What do you say first?

Nope that's not them. The word you are looking for is 'please,' Brink.

Ugh! Come on Low you're just giving them away?!

Sharing isn't good enough for Brink it seems... And the fellow is delusional

Sure you would have Brink.

How will anyone know with him stuck on this planet all by himself? But now that he has the life crystals, which we need ourselves by the way, he leaves to work on his 'machine.'

It seems fine. Time to go get our crystals back... fun...

Yeah, Brink, we are all friends here.

Damn.

And according to a Farside comic I think that does make a 'right.'

Default Low, Fixer Upper

Looks like Low is going to have to fix Brink's machine before he can do anything with the 'eye' machine. And though it doesn't make any sense at all the way to fix it is the missing console piece, 'eye part.'

Have you looked in a mirror Brink? You're completely insane.

And we'll end today on the high note! See you next week!

Default On the Brink

Last time we talked to a really old alien, Brink took our stuff, And then like morons we went looking for him. We pick up there:

But unlike you Maggie and Boston aren't insane. I think.

I take it back. You'd have to be insane to make a deal with Brink...

I don't even recall what that first deal was! But I do know we need some crystals in order to open the eye.

This guy...

Get a room you two. All this muscle-flexing is tiresome for those of us not hot for either of you.

Who could turn a deal like that down?

Default Making a Life Crystal

Well it seems none of us are going to ever be good friends. Let's just make these crystals and go our separate ways:

What could possibly go wrong here? Let's get this over with!

How would either of them know?!

I'm not worried about Low keeping his part of the deal Brink...

So do we... I'm sure this is going to end well.

No sooner than the words are out of his mouth Low is going back on them!? Damn, he is a brazen SOB.

Or did I misunderstand? And he still only plans on taking the one?

Nope, he's definitely going back on the agreement he just made.

Can't disagree with Brink there.

And I don't think anyone agreed to let you use the green triangle piece. Brink is taking that with him!

Low you've been trying to reason with Brink since you brought him back. When has it worked? Even once?!

Told you Boston.

By a show of hands how many of you knew from the very beginning there was going to be a fight?

Let's enjoy this scene for a second. Where no one seems to be paying any attention to the man who just outrated stated he was going to kill the other two people. That is not a person you turn your back on!

Because he goes and does something like that...

Default Over the Brink

Did you get all that? Brink snuck up on Low and smacked him in the back of the head. Felling him. Maggie came after Brink and he tackled her. Then he picked up a rock and was going to drop it on Boston, probably his head. And then he kinda just loses his balance and falls over the edge?!

How does that make any sense? Don't believe me? Check it out in this video:

That means despite all his big talk Brink would have killed Low! Easily too it seems! One fainting spell away from certain doom for Mr. Boston Low.

Thank you for rubberstamping this death Maggie. You're a true friend. And now we get all the life crystals!

Here the game interjects some ominious undertones in the soundtrack. Like you do.

Including killing a teammember and friend.

I don't get it.

Okay, with Brink dead and two life crystals and machine piece in hand we can head back to the Cathedral spire and try and open that eye!

First we put the piece in:

Now we put in the life crystals to power it, I guess? I'm just guessing here:

Jeez, Boston. Can you be more morose about this? Are you going to mention Ludger every time you do something now?

What happens now? Find out next time!

Default Hard Truths

I feel like we are getting to the end, right? Brink is dead. We've got the life crystals, we know this device opens "the eye," and that's the best chance of us getting home. So, let's do this!

Just, one problem. How do we do it?

reassuring...

Feeling better and better about this...

Nothing is ever easy, is it?

Seems like a real flaw in the system.

I just want to telegraph that I will be dying very soon.

That's very clear to me. You all appear to be sociopaths of one sort or another

Sure. I mean. He can always break it later. This is Boston we are talking about.

Default Opening the Eye

I mean he was kind of a prick before he died and came back.

Now Boston telegraphs that Robbins is going to die in case we missed it thirty seconds ago.

Okay. Well, I guess we should turn it on. The controls are somewhere around here. (They are not at the top or at the middle, turns out. It's the panel right there!)

Or maybe, it just starts at the bottom?

That doesn't seem like a good idea.

Oh no! I didn't see that coming at all!? Is Robbins okay?

I'll forget you almost immediately. I don't mean to. But. I'm just going to be very busy with that whole eye thing and saving an alien race. Who has time for mourning?

If you couldn't tell or deduce by its name, 'The Eye' opens up at the center of the five light bridges above the atoll. I didn't try this, but I suspect if you haven't activated all the bridges the eye won't open. Anyway, we did open all the bridges and now we're going to save some aliens!

Or not?

Boop!

No, we definitely are. How is that even a deterrent? All you did was have us cruelly kill this space dog.

Let's watch it plummet to its death!

More like his last chance to needlessly torture animals.

That name still makes me giggle every time I read it. Nothing for it then! In you go Boston!

Tune in next time for the thrilling conclusion! Will Boston find the aliens? Will they want to come back? Will Low be able to bring them back? Will he every get home to start his new ska band, Spacetime Six?

Everything will be revealed then!

Default Spacetime Six

It appears Spacetime Sis just a bunch of vague bubbles in the void.

Our man Boston wants nothing to do with it though. He's not a complete meathead.

Damn! That alien has a baller beard. Look at it! Glory in it! How could this race have failed so fully with such vibrant facial coverings?!

How convenient.

I guess all Boston had to do was literally just stand there? Now the stars that became aliens can touch the bubbles that lead them back to their homeworld? Something like that. It's difficult for a being trapped in just four dimensions to understand things happening in six-plus.

Humans are #1! Humans are #1! Humans are #1! Back in this timespace, which I like to call Timespace Four. Boston is alone. Maybe his new alien friends can cheer him up? He goes out to meet them.

Default Tying Up Loose Ends

BWHHHAAAAT?

Show off.

Brink isn't looking so great there...

This one sentence has bothered me more than anything else in this game. I assumed he was just pulling a Maggie and Brink from an alternate timeline where they didn't die into this one. But this line seems to be saying that they did indeed die and that some fundamental aspect of them went to continued existence in Spacetime Six. And all that was necessary for them to come back bodily was to find the right door?!

When did these two even like each other. The entire game at best they really just tolerated each other.

Boston only lies to Brink it seems.

YEESHH. But at what cost?!

Yes, what humans need is a bigger inflated ego. These aliens are going to kill us all as soon as a single Ugly American Tourists shows up.

And that is The Dig! Apologies for taking so long! This is the first adventure game I have LPed that I didn't know backward and forwards beforehand. I ended up struggling through the beginning of the game trying to figure it out while keeping the LP going. Since I started it I've moved twice, changed jobs, had half a dozen relationships, two serious!

I hope it was enjoyable for Y'all. I'm hoping my next LP is considerably shorter!

Thanks again!
