That would still be lame. Aquamentus isn't the sort of boss you fight in a battle of attrition. It's a boss where you work out where to attack it from that you'll never get hit. As one expects from the first boss, where you don't have the HP for trading blows to be viable. Making it take longer to kill doesn't make for a more interesting or more challenging fight, it just takes longer.

The main problem I'm having is at this point I don't even know where the blue ring is (I'm hoping it's under a bush I can now burn because I WILL grind for it as soon as i find it) and they are throwing enemies that can take 1/4 or even 1/2 of my total hearts for this point of the game. So it's a pain to even get to the boss room and then when i do I basically get four hits and near as I can tell the boss takes at least 5.
Which isn't to say I couldn't go explore and find the blue ring and find the medicine woman and maybe even find a heart container and the white sword. Which I might! But it still seems like a bit much for Level 2, hahah. I'm not complaining, though. Since it is the "fourth quest" and all, I expected it to be hard. |

Chapter 4: In Sync
GUYS! I made a video with no desync! Holy shit!
In this episode, Ganon manages to stay in sync, accidentally clicks on spoilers, and generally avoids epic failure. So now I need some tips on where to use this stupid blue candle, how to find Level 3 (presumably with the candle), and maybe some other useful overworld stuff. You played Zelda as a kid you already know where to use the Blue Candle. On EVERYTHING.

There's something that's been bothering me that I have a hunch about. I'm not certain about it because I haven't played this quest in ZC. Can someone who has played it answer this question - did McClain miss something on the screen that used to have the entrance to Level 6?

You can only have one entrance on a screen, so unless something is hidden under an Armos, no.
McClain has walked past Level 3 a few times (including in episode 4!), its near the southwest corner of the map. As for a more generic, playground hint... think of LttP and you'll find something good. |

And to make this obscene post obliquely on topic, I know for a fact that I saw McClain die in an earlier video when there were 2 entrances on the same screen. How he missed that is beyond me. |

The LttP clue makes me think Level 3 is actually in Death Mountain.
I'm probably going to do some exploring off camera since I feel like that's not super interesting to watch over and over again. Or maybe I'll just click on a spoiler again, hahaha. Quote:
EDIT: Found Level 3! Didn't even take as long as I thought it might. So I've got a destination for my next video, which is good. Still not sure what Red means by his LttP hint, though. Maybe I'll figure it out next time! Last edited by McClain; 06-07-2013 at 10:55 AM. |

FWIW, in the Third Quest you couldn't get the prescription for medicine until you got the Raft from Level-5. I don't know about the Fourth Quest.

Chapter 5: Head Colds and Wizrobes
In this episode, Ganon bitches about asymmetrical design, blames his poor play on a head cold, and gets pincer attacked by wizrobes. |

The thing about Zelda is that it's not really oriented around combat. It's all about exploration and investigation - bombing walls and burning bushes to discover secrets and all that junk. Combat is just a feature of the game to give you something to beat up and immerse you into the game world with all the creatures. As your gear you find grows more expansive, you have more of a means to deal with enemies. The whole point of having such a wide variety of monsters you encounter is so that the tools you find can prove useful against them, you can run into monsters that might necessitate more lateral thinking than just to bat them to death with your sword, and to flesh out the dungeons.
So I don't think Wizzrobes are all that bad. They did a lot of damage in the original game because they were designed as late game enemies that expect you to have gotten (or force you to aquire) the Magic Shield. But if you want to put a challenge on people, sticking them (THE RED ONES) in an earlier dungeon seems perfectly legit, as their pattern isn't too hard and they don't take a lot of hits to kill even with the wood sword. And they can add a bit of tension in an otherwise tension-less dungeon. NOW THE PROBLEM with this game is that though they introduced them in Level 3 they introduced them in huge droves like the original. There's no reason to have that many Red Wizzrobes in one room that early. I don't see what it adds aside from making rooms take longer to clear. That blue moldorm is sort of the same thing. Being just a regular moldorm that's a bit faster and takes longer to kill. Which I guess isn't bad necessarily, since I don't know what purpose moldorms served in the original game other than having an enemy that you could just whale on. Still seems boring though. I rather like the vires that can keep re-spawning if you hit them. It's just the same general idea of adjusting enemies to compensate for you wider toolset: They'd work as good endgame enemies that can be tricky if you don't handle them properly, but with a full arsenal aren't too hard to take out. I wouldn't want to see them any earlier than Level 7 though, and for them to not do tons of damage. Last edited by Isrieri; 06-10-2013 at 07:37 PM. |

Don't ask me how I ended up watching my old videos with the automatic Close Captioning on. It's not important.
What is important is that between my mumbling and talking fast, Youtube can't make any sense out of what the hell I'm saying. I about fell out of my chair when I saw this particular line: |

Chapter 6: Storm Front
Tonight I learned to not attempt a recording with severe weather coming in.
In this episode, Ganon takes a mulligan, gets a bunch of phone calls, and dodges lightning. |

I'm starting to consider maybe feeling a little bad for you. |

If a monster is allowed to split in two, it will override the respawn timer for a given monster in that room. That's why everything came back instantly that one time instead of being dead for a while, there were Vires you split into Keese there.
Yes, this is what happens on a real NES. Zelda Classic, everybody! |

Yeah, I realize that's how the behaved on the NES. It was kinda bullshit then, but it was at least (probably) a technical limitation. Retaining that behavior with Zelda Classic is ... interesting, to say the least.
At any rate, I'm not entirely sure how to tackle a four headed Gleeok with my meager resource other than to brute force it. I expect I'll do some off-screen grinding next time to reclaim my shield and maybe top off my medicine, then start the next video with some whistle exploration before diving into the dragon's mouth. The "good news" is they seemed to have only stuck four heads on it and not boosted its HP, so if I can get there with full life and medicine I should be able to take it out. There also appears to be some parts of the map I'm missing, so more exploration times! |

That said, Zelda Classic's respawn rules do have some screwiness to them. If you kill all of the enemies in a room, they'll come back when they should, but killing some of them leaves the room depopulated forever. Well, until you leave the dungeon outright, anyway.
Try it on the overworld. You can leave a single enemy on each screen and have a peaceful overworld forever. EDIT: Quote:

This quest looks like some straight-up bull-dang-shit.
Not in an "extension of the second quest" way, either. It looks like bullshit in that "shitty Zelda Classic quest" way. |
