Let's do some extra research! OK so despite being some sorta U.N.-y multinational military initiative, the Sunvulcan team meet up in a little snack shack type thing with a secret military base in the back room and their commander is out front serving food when it isn't mission briefing time. That's pretty cool. Also they fight using their animal powers so Vul Panther is climbing trees and pouncing and stuff and Vul Eagle is just straight up flying around and Vul Shark is... uh... swimming through the air and using his hands to "bite" people. This is exactly as weird and goofy looking as it sounds.

It's a bit hard to keep coming up with trivia about an 80 minute movie that's mostly just "we felt like doing a shameless gender swapped Robocop thing" but uh... the whole movie's just sitting there on youtube? I can talk about how good this costume design is I guess. It's kind of halfway between the Robocop suit and a Bubblegum Crisis Hardsuit, with the stiff grey limbs but with the big bubble head. And the one big bauble earring just swinging around at all times prominently. It really is a pretty solid look. Also she has the ability to armor up her lips when needed which... yeah, kind of a big flaw in the standard Robocop design that.

I could divulge so very much Eva lore, but you all know it. You also all know, I'd think, that the director of the series has, in recent years, kinda become like the Japanese J.J. Abrams, with everyone giving him the keys to all the classic sci-fi franchises and letting him do his own movies for Godzilla, Kamen Rider, and Ultra Man, and while we get a bonkers promotional toy out of that, it's weird seeing all these through the lens of this one guy who's very much hung up on his own stuff and doesn't really seem to have paid attention to where these things have gone past their initial outings half a decade ago. Fortunately the canon continuations of these get to ignore these to a greater degree than their western equivalents.

... OK so I just randomly pulled up an episode of this and skimmed through and we've got this whole all-fire-themed villain group hanging out with their little flame headed mook army and they're simultaneously attacking with a big flaming tank and a big flaming crab and the main guy is driving a firetruck up and whacking at the crab with the ladder and then later the crab and tank combine into a big flaming crab tank and so the heroes combine all their vehicles (the firetruck, a bulldozer and I think a helicopter) to make a "dragon" which is just... kinda... the firetruck with little buldozer claws on either side and a giant fan at the end of the latter lifting its hood to "roar" and scratching with its claws and during this whole big thing this here main theme is playing and that is some PRETTY GREAT STUFF. This was episode 9, for reference.

Today I am all about the robots mashing together to make a big mess. Sorry robots that are actually women.

Have I mentioned how absolutely bonkers recent Super Sentai series Don Brothers is? The first clip in here is how the red one shows up every time he shows up.

In addition to acknowledging how great is, BOC did that song immortalized in the one SNL sketch where Christopher Walken just can't get enough of that cowbell. The song in question also served as the inspiration for the FMV game Ripper where Walken plays a character with a truly unforgettable line delivery. And guess who has a roll in the upcoming Godzilla/Kong sequel. EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED.

It's weird how both the American and Japanese Spider-Man are motivated by the deaths of loved ones by criminals but one just kinda goes "you know, it really makes you think" while the other goes full on Count of Monte Cristo about it.

Spider-Man may be on the ropes, but he's still in this, thanks to two versions of his theme getting nominated. That also means I've had to come up with twice as much Spider-Man trivia as I should have have to so uh... while the film version substitutes in The Iron Giant as part of its general effort to reference things anyone cares about, in the original novel of Ready Player One, after all the characters personally recreate two different Mathew Broderick films from memory, they have a big mech fight and the main character grabs Spider-Man's mech Leopardon despite never having seen the show.

Having taken the time to watch a little Rescue Fire I really am surprisingly here for this wonky offbrand Super Sentai show where the theme of the moster of the week every single week is fire and they just kinda super-impose fire over the whole show. It's like when they do those all-red Lifesaver rolls. Or when they did that all-red Super Sentai thing. You know, what if it was nothing but the hotheaded idiots.

I'd give The Green Slime the same treatment as Lady Battle Cop and just link the whole movie but the best I can do is this, because for some reason THIS movie people want money in exchange for you watching it. I don't know why. Like, it's not a good movie. The themesong's really great and that's why it's here but the movie it's attached to is such an also-ran of a thing.

Well. No matter what happens, a nomination of Torzelbaum is moving along. This is actually the second time BOC's Godzilla anthem is going up against a variation of the Japanese Spider-Man intro, so it would seem likely the big lizard is stomping him like a bug again, but there's a chance the purity of the actual TV-sized version of the theme strengthens the heart of Takuya, here in his darkest hour!

I certainly believe in him, at any rate! Ganbatte Spider-Man!

Godzilla truly is one of my oldest loves. So many memories of watching him throwing other monsters around like sacks of potatoes on so many Turner cable network's holiday marathon. Meanwhile, this here Rescue Fire track was one of the biggest surprises in this dome for me in terms both literally never having heard of this show, and the song being pretty great. Who will move on to the final match? The old or the new? Fire-breather, or fire-fighters?

Personally I kinda have to go for the one I could see listening to out of context.

Normally I'd have a little image here representative of my vote but when I was looking for that vs. insert I found this thing as the thumbnail to a youtube video I probably don't want contaminating my search history and it perfectly captures the whole final four so I have to share.
