Apparently the switch collection is gonna have an option to hold the console vertically to replicate playing on an original game boy. With the touch controls, I guess, but maybe that means it’ll be compatible with the flip grip.

lysianassa's generation was fun. stopped garon, stopped the volcano (i had a pretty terrible party loadout for it, which is definitely something to remember for the future...but next time i probably want to do the other thing again anwyay), did first half of wagnas' castle, ground a bit, fought noel, started up a couple of the big magic research goals i had, then gave in and went to the mu cave to advance the generation. i kind of didn't want it to work since i've heard dantarg can show up somewhere else, but i did want to just start blasting everything with aoe magic, so that won out.

so then i naturally had a really grindy generation, starting off with farming every emperor i could think to try for formations, putting together enough money and spell levels to buy out all of the remaining fusion spells, and then...learning that i'd progressed the mermaid quest too far during the past and wasn't eligible to finish it anymore? whoops. i reset my party anyway and assembled the ultimate non-human team (four elementals and coppelia) to go kill wagnas and head for the end. that was easy enough this time, aside from one encounter that was virtually impossible to win (the "insect queen" floating monster ladies inside of demon sprites) as like most of the other dungeons this playthrough i was a little ahead instead of a little behind, and i grabbed a ton of consumables to fight more inside, because my empress (nereid again...) had entered the mountain with like 680 hp. and i wanted to reach 700 for the harder wagnas.

which took forever. i used about a full stack of 30 mp restores, and some sp, although by the end most enemy combos were dying to diamond dust, wind blade, and auto-attacks from everyone else. boss wasn't really tough, mostly just harder hitting from what i remember on my first playthrough, though the fire wall was a total wipe aside from my salamander so i died once. but still mostly went aggro aside from pulling out some big heals from nausithoe and elixir on siero.

and with that, it's the end of the millennium. gotta plan out a party for the next few bosses, especially since the termite revenge thing is like the last easy place to grind in the game, lol. (although since this is probably a file i'll new game plus from considering how much i've already ground, i'm not sure that'll stop me from continuing to mash everything, especially since with my ultimate final stats galactic rift already does 3000 damage) i'd thought about putting roc for last, but on further reflection, i could just not go to the cave where kzinssie is, huh? then i wouldn't have to set dodge soul steal on everyone till the very end

the downside is that the reason i didn't already do roc is because i didn't want to do all those dungeons again, lol

I like high-speed mode and including the Japanese versions of the games. But I really wish they'd release all that high-res character artwork used in the trailer.

Fast forward is gonna be great. Also nice to see them confirm my suspicion that the Japanese versions are included too.

i'd thought about putting roc for last, but on further reflection, i could just not go to the cave where kzinssie is, huh?
so this is what i chose to do, especially since it doesn't open up anything in particular anyway, although highly annoyingly this meant i got tossed right from the roc tower to the event where you're not allowed to rest, lol. it wasn't that bad since you get inn'd during the black screen anyway, but the termite queen was actually the first thing in this game i remember genuinely thinking was like, particularly easier on my first playthrough for reasons not obviously related to boss variations or encounter rank. not sure why, it just felt like nothing that time and i took a few tries this time. there were a few other things that got very silly to do so late (like, the snake in the jungle temple was a vritra this time, which is pretty mean)

ultimately kind of the "true" goal of this file, aside from getting a lot of outcomes to contrast with my first (which was highly successful, i got alternate versions of most bosses, did many events at different times and with different choices, got to try many classes i never used before, etc.)...is to finish the game without ever equipping hasten time. although i can certainly admit to myself it's possible i'm not clever and patient enough for this, especially given the other circumstances i've gotten into with these choices. i did try the final boss a few times tonight, but it seems pretty much inevitable that one of the charm and confuse effects is gonna cause my empress to galactic rift everyone over the course of 20 turns, which pretty much ruins everything even in the best of circumstances. it seems funny to me that people make such a big deal over being immune to one (though i know it's because it's aoe) when they have three more anyway...

so this is probably the part where i take a break for a little while since i kinda binged this one but am not really hell-bent on rushing to the end of this playthrough anyway, and then when it's time spend see if running out all the maze of memories floors is enough grinding to cover the gap. it may even just let me cycle party members a bit, which i think might help, it's sorta variable but it seems like next gen and replacement characters are usually stronger (due to tech point levels) than the rate of growth through battle. i guess the other thing i need to ponder is if i actually should even keep water magic if i'm rating "don't use HT" as higher than "use water and wind magic" since i'll probably keep wind (and therefore still not be able to cast elixir either) and going to fire would get me a couple much better options for single target spells that would make it a lot easier to mitigate boss rng. so it makes sense

I can't believe they did it! I had hoped this would have been the next step. I wonder if there will be a whole new translation?

The script seems to be the same, verbatim, but maybe given a pass for formatting and such.

Nice to see Square discover all the SaGa games they had hidden in a drawer. I never understood Frontier I, but I'm willing to give it a second chance 23(!) years later.

did their best!
Knowing Square Enix, Kawazu is the only reason anyone still has the assets for SaGa Frontier, and FFT's code has been used as a coaster in the office break room since a week after War Of The Lions was released.

I really can't believe this is happening. I can't wait to check out the fixed up Asellus scenario and Fuse's whole thing.

Everyone has already said this, but I can't believe this is real and that it looks like it's being done with so much care, at least at first glance.

Playing SaGa Frontier on the Vita was a big part of my reevaluation of Kawazu games. My memory was that I hated how this game looked when it originally came out, but with hindsight and with 3D polygonal games no longer a novelty I found the elaborate CGI renders of characters and backgrounds to be incredibly charming.

Regarding the translation: the dialogue in the trailer seems to be lifted straight from the original, but move names can have spaces now (Alkarl uses Shining Kick instead of ShiningKick) and combo names are composed from their component moves instead of the generic Level X Combo. Maybe they'll make some changes to the script for the final release; if nothing else, it would be weird to call T260G "they" in the trailer but "he" in the game.

Anyway, I am very excited to play SaGa Frontier again and in a finished form!

Now I'm glad I never did a full run of this. Just Blue and Amelia's chapter. Stoked for this one.

First one I played and pretty much the only saga game that I properly finished/really loved. I’m all right with this.

lord we're really getting the Fuse cut of SaGa Frontier on Switch and PS4 before Final Fantasy Tactics

I'm surprised nobody's adapted the mobile port of WotL to consoles. Unlike many of Square Enix's mobile ports it's come a long way since its initial shoddy iOS release.
