Figured the announcement of Nintendo translating the original Fire Emblem for NA was a good enough reason to start a thread on New Talking Time.

Looks neat, I like the new features being added in (rewind, bookmarks, fast forwards), and I hope this sells well so we can get others like Genealogy or Thracia or Roy Story.

Wow! This is wonderful news. I hope they get to the others.

Oh, damn, I'm going to have to pick up that anniversary edition, aren't I? Love the retraux Nintendo Power poster.

This is really cool. Very smart to implement some QOL stuff. I'm not one for crazy physical editions, but I love it includes the Nintendo Power poster we never got.

Yep, March 31st is the cutoff date here too. $6 USD for the digital, $50 for the physical. Out 12/4.

Not a Fire Emblem fan, but this looks well done. It's been great that so many games of this vintage have been localized in recent years. And the trailer wisely takes its time establishing why someone who hasn't really heard of it might care.

The fact that there are now multiple games from multiple franchises with a March 31st cutoff sell date is starting to raise an eyebrow from me. Could just be the end of the fiscal quarter was arbitrarily chosen as the end date for these, but I’m starting to wonder if some big change is coming to NSO/eShop.

I may not be that into the modern Fire Emblems, but I've been waiting for an official localization of the original Famicom game for three decades now.

Will definitely buy this, I want Nintendo to localize more of their old games.

Kazin

did i do all of that?

Wow, only $6 for the digital? I probably will pick it up even though I'm not a huge Fire Emblem fan - but I'll poke around at these for that cheaply...

I NEED THAT LIMITED EDITION MORE THAN I NEED LIFE’S BREATH

I do not care for Fire Emblem particularly, and was instantly repelled by attempting to play OG FE (English hack) due to the archaic way it handles.

That said, I would knock over my own mother for that Limited Edition.

That Nintendo Power poster practically guarantees we won't get that Special Edition here in Europe.... =(

But hey, $6 for a NES game with that much added QoL is a steal. Sign me up.

That's what I'm wondering. It's not completely impossible they hacked it in, but it's probably some kind of a LUA script or something.

It is impossible due to how the menu graphics appear. It seems to be an NES ROM in a wrapper with the extra features. They would want the game itself to be an actual ROM so they can continue to leverage it in different forms in the future.

I've instantly ordered it! I wonder if it's a proper NES ROM?

You cannot do that kind of proportional font on a real famicom/nes. At all.

So it’s gotta be more than a ROM.

There are various forms of NES Emulation that expand on what was capable with the original NES. For an in house example, I’m pretty sure that is how NES Remix worked.

Judging by how the Super Mario 3D collection works, if it's not possible on an NES it's the translated ROM in a wrapper. All of the high resolution stuff in Mario 64 was LUA scripts, if I recall correctly. They're putting some real effort into this, can we have Mother 3, pretty please?

I am not a fan of this Disney Vault approach that is becoming more prevalent with my favorite game company 😡

God damn the wait for this LE to put itself somewhere other than Gamestop is agonizing.

I kind of don't know if I'd actually play this since I didn't really enjoy the Shadow Dragon remake, but at the same time for 6 bucks, why not?

Yeah, this is me. That remake was a slog, but I'm very curious to play the original. Definitely will wishlist it, won't buy it at launch but will probably pick it up someday.
