Super Mario RPG 3D Remake

Other than Bowser looking a bit too modern, the character models are astoundingly close to the original 90s renders, wonky proportions and all. A far more faithful visual adaptation than probably anyone ever expected them to do. If nothing else, this has all the hallmarks of being made by people who deeply love the original game

This just made me realize that there very likely are coders working on this game that weren't even born when the original came out.

I have no issue with Bowser using the modern render because the original model per the box art of him is absolutely fuckin hideous. That's not Bowser, that's Vectorman with a spiky-shell backpack

If the standard Bowser model had existed in 1995, they'd have used it.

Kazin

did i do all of that?

I wonder if this sorta came from that gigaleak from a few years back? Like Nintendo realized "oh yeah, we have the source code for that" and contracted someone to make it. Probably not, but I'm still utterly fascinated by that whole thing.

Part of me really wants to know what team is developing this because, like, AlphaDream is long dead, I can't imagine the Paper Mario team doing something like this, and I also can't see this being a Square joint.

If it's a Grezzo venture they ain't credited on the game's official page with Nintendo and Square Enix. Though to be fair they weren't credited on the official page for the Link's Awakening remake either. I realize the Switch description would be a million miles long if you put all the credits there but at least credit the co-dev for your goddanged Zelda remake on the game's page.
