Rogue Legacy 2: Genetic Boogaloo

I would love some more docks dialogue, feels like I haven't had any in like 5 hours. It didn't seem like anyone was eager to chat after I started my NG+ run, either.
If you talk to the Docks NPCs enough times, they'll drop Soul Stones at the end of their stories. I think their dialog ends after that point, but if you haven't gotten Soul Stones from everyone, then with time, there should be more for everyone to say. You can even chat up Ladon the Dragon once per NG+ loop (with a different heir from that which defeated Tubal) and eventually get some Soul Stones from him as well!
You keep all heirlooms for NG+ runs, which saves you the trouble of doing the heirloom trials but also allows you to do the whole game in any order. Each successive run tends to be much shorter than the last, at least before you start ratcheting the difficulty way up.

RL2 takes a lot of cues from Hades -- most notably, the dialogue at the docks progresses over time, and you're working through character plot beats in the process -- but more pertinent to this discussion is the Pact of Punishment-style difficulty selection. The unfortunate difference here is that many of the RL2 difficulty settings are locked behind higher NG+ levels.
It's making me happy to see more rogue-like/-lite games with a choose-your-own Heat / Pact of Punishment system, to gradually raise permanent progression with difficulty in tandem. I guess it makes sense for unlocking some of those settings in Rogue Legacy 2 across multiple threads for the way the game wants to convey its story, and realistically, most players would probably choose to ratchet things up stepwise in the order that the game unlocks them anyways.

I've seem to hit a pretty hard wall in zone 5. The zone itself can be a nightmare depending on the buffed monsters it spawns, but also the boss is causing me all sorts of trouble. I seem to have the best success with Gunslinger, but it's still a tough fight. Doesn't help that I keep forgetting to turn on the Architect, so I keep having to go through the zone again.

Okay I finally beat zone 5 boss. Ended up winning with a Duelist. They hit really fast and I learned how to dodge all the shit better, with their roll as a backup. I also tried several times with Astromancer but their Talent cooldown feels too long for that fight. I am also really enjoying Dragon Lancer. It's surprising how useful staying in the air forever can be even though you're not invincible at all, and their crit damage is pretty good once you pump Dexterity.

I beat the final boss last night! In the end I'd say my most successful boss-killers were Valkyrie and Duelist; Valkyrie can absorb a whole lot of stuff with their Talent, and Duelist has both extremely quick attacks and the short cooldown for a get-out-of-damage immediately Talent.

I immediately started in on NG+, had a quick death non-start, and then proceeded to live a very long time and almost kill 3 bosses with a single Knight (and I don't even like Knight that much). I don't know how deep I am gonna be going into NG+ here, but I imagine I will at least want to see all the enhanced versions of each boss.

The powered up version of Boss #2 is some absurd bullshit. I have no idea how I would beat that thing if I wasn't playing Assassin. Maybe Astromancer's Invincibility talent would be enough too, but holy damn there's so much to be aware of. Boxer could probably do it too. I can't even imagine that fight being feasible with certain classes, like Ranger or Gunslinger. I am now more worried about how ridiculous the subsequent powered up bosses are going to be. Boss #1 wasn't anything crazy, just everything he did was More.

I almost beat it first try with Valkyrie with "deal and take 2x damage" and "deal 150% extra until you get hit." Then I got hit.

Tonight I completed NG+7, and with that I have seen all the Prime versions of every boss fight. I also did some extra steps to get the "final" ending... which didn't end up being that different. But anyway, I can still go for 2 more achievements, but that would involve completing 3 more Scar challenges and then beating the game again. And... I think I'm finally done with this game instead. My save file said I had something like 67 hours. The grind can continue for as long as anyone could reasonably want which is kind of admirable in a way, but I'm not interested in doing that right now.
