Redactle, the daily ████████-█████ ████████ puzzle

Well that was quick...

"solved today's Redactle (#317) in 2 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%."

(There were / are 2 redacted words in the article title.)

I took 7 as well, but that's mostly to narrow down the second word (first word is my first guess on nearly ever puzzle).

Had a better than median / average day but I think the most interesting thing is how much better my hit rate (~86.5%) was than either of those (which were both around 56-58%). I think I got lucky by getting a match that really narrowed down the possible topics on guess #26 and another lucky match to get the answer 11 guesses later.

There appears to be a bug for today's puzzle that prevents you from winning even if you put in the title words. I have not been able to find a workaround and I doubt that there even is one.

There is one. You have to put in encyclop and dia to get the solve to properly register.

For future reference, the Redactle subreddit is good for figuring that kind of bullshit out. (That's where I went to figure out why my puzzle wouldn't get solved!)

I suddenly remembered this existed! Stopped playing once I was back to work full time but just had a lot of fun doing today's. Got it in 39 which appears to be just below the average of 41. Still had the link on my toolbar and everything.

Also went back to the reddit and dang the redactle unlimited guy is doing cool stuff. Looks like you can now do custom games and deselect certain categories? We're going to make our way through this list of Japan ones sometime. Definitely makes it an easier game when you know the theme but still neat.

I've also fallen off. I don't know why, but once the original site went down and we all had to go to Redactle Unlimited it just stopped as fun for me for some reason. It's weird!

Oh interesting. I switched to Unlimited pretty early on because I loved the features, especially my spouse and I being able to work on a puzzle at the same time.

I have never liked the interface on Unlimited so I also have not played since the original site went down.

I cut myself off of Redactle a year ago because I was spending way too much time being serious about analyzing articles to go for low scores. Just needed to reclaim that teaspoon and reallocate it to other tasks. (Though I guess I still have a 'daily puzzle' in my rotation, Knotwords. Even though it often feels more stupid than clever. Brains, man.)

Same as the above, I haven't played in a long time. But I did just get two puzzles in less than 40, which was a nice way to come back!

I've still been playing, but just for something to do on the side while I'm watching videos or live streams. And yeah, it's mostly on Unlimited. Still enjoying it.

One of those days where my hunch was spot on. Got it in 3 (and it's a two-worder)! I think that's my best ever??

Got today's in 2/2, 100%. Maybe I was lucky, but I just gleaned one key word ( cat ) right away and then went straight to the answer. I guess that ties with 3/3 for a two-worder, but by the numbers this is almost certainly my best ever.

Thanks for the reminder to play this.

It took me a while to find that word and then I found the answer pretty soon after that. 63 guesses with 63.49% accuracy. Not my worst but definitely not my best either.

Followed up with a hole in one today, but the title was half-revealed words already so it was pretty easy/obvious. Still, my first ever!

Man, today's was a fucking doozy for me:
  • You solved it in 714 guesses
  • Your accuracy was 42.02%

mysticism

(I put that in a spoiler because it is still available in history for anyone who didn't play on that date.)

Fucking stupid bullshit!

(A bug has reared it's ugly head again if you're not playing in the unlimited version.)

Today's on the original site appears to be bugged. I've positively identified the wikipedia article, which is the page for Encyclopædia Britannica. However, although I have entered Encyclopedia, Encyclopaedia, and Encyclopædia (the wikipedia page uses the latter) , and even though all three spellings have been accepted and highlighted many entries in the article itself, none of them will reveal the title and therefore allow me to finish the puzzle. Oh well!

That has happened with a lot of recent articles, as seen by my previous post.

(Also, I think today's article has appeared before and had the same problem.)
