R.I.P. Neal Adams

From that same run, Don Heck created Alex Summers/Havok, but Neal Adams made him one of the most visually distinct Guy Who Does Energy Blasts in a very crowded field.



(I don't mean to rag on Heck, who had his own talents.)

In my experience, Adams was the first modern comics artist. You can look at his work now, and the colors look dated, but his pencils totally hold up. I respect the work that others before him did, but you don't need a historical lens to enjoy Adams' art.
