Protags showing their age

MetManMas

Me and My Bestie
(He, him)
I get being weirded out by how young Sonic's loving stalker is but three years isn't that big an age gap and Amy is almost out of her preteen years.

Anyway, it's not on the chart, but I think I saw somewhere (The Sonic Heroes manual, maybe?) that Dr. Eggman is like, 50. That certainly makes sense.

Beowulf

Son of The Answer Man
(He/Him)
I find it much harder to get worked up about the official listed ages of anthro characters or fantastic races because there's a much better "Well, by human standards their character is a young adult, but humanoid echidnas grow faster so he's only 7 years old." (And I suppose you could argue that all the Final Fantasy games take place in a world with 500-day years, if you're using that logic.) It just seems less important that the ages mean anything when the characters aren't human. Kinda like the Ninja Turtles: Okay, they're 15-16 in-universe so they can be "teenage", but what the hell does that actually mean for anthropomorphic turtles? Will they be "teenagers" mentality-wise for another three decades? How long were they "kids"?

I agree with this, but I do despise the slight variation of this, which is "yes, she looks like a 13 year-old girl, but she's really an AGELESS GODDESS in the body of a 13 year-old girl, so it's totally fine to get horny over her."

True, but the fact that Sonic is 15 means it absolutely tracks that he would think it's a huge gap.

The best thing about Silver is that the bad writing in 06 made him come off like a huge idiot and then all the later games/comics completely embrace that and have him be a giant dork.

I do not see Bean the Dynamite on that chart, which confirms (or at least doesn’t refute) my belief that he’s 43 years old.

Also, IIRC, Shadow was created in a lab by Robotniks grandpa, so he’s pushing 50 at the very least.

Makes sense to me. As someone in his early 40s, I can relate to Eggman more and more.

Yeah I was about to call out that chart for being a coward for not listing an age for Eggman, so I'm glad they had it somewhere else.
Also the robots should just have years since creation, it's fine if they're two or whatever. But yeah, like others have said, all these ages are definitely calibrated to what would make sense for a grade-schooler playing the games, which probably applies to a lot of other franchises as well.

Mario is canonically 25.
No way, the guy makes a little grunt or noise every time he makes the slightest movement. That's a sign of being over 30.

The antagonism between parties in the Sonic the Hedgehog games is generational in nature.

Eggman is in his 50s, has nearly-limitless wealth and resources, and believes his own intellect and wisdom to be utterly flawless. Eggman is a Boomer.

Sonic, of course, is a Zoomer.

Well, we know they mature by the end of the century, at least.

They look like they just hit their "just turned 30" crisis.

Don also just watched The Dark Knight Rises and thinks Bane's coat is really cool.

Given that the original comic was published in 1993 (I'm fairly certain I have it in my collection--I have pieces of that storyline, at least), either the writers were prescient about movie villains or the costume director for that movie read a lot of TMNT comics.

(I don't think a timeline for how far in the future that story took place was every really given. Heck, I don't think April or any contemporary human characters show up in it, which means there isn't even their ages to try to peg it with.)

And turtles live for a really long time regardless. So you can’t even go by the fact that they’re slightly more grizzled.

I generally liked the Archie house style for the Turtles, but the long tapered part of their under shell never really fit well aesthetically.

The Future Turtles were from 100 years in the future, so about 2093, making them around 115 years old, I think?

But obviously not aged as a human would.

Excuse you both, that is very clearly meant to be a Blade Runner coat
