and...I'm actually sad to see Devilman no Uta up against my own nom (which I didn't get tagged in) because I really like it. Actually, fuck it, With a Little Help is crushing it right now so I'm gonna go ahead and vote against myself: Devilman no Uta.

Trivia corner:
I honestly kinda prefer the variation on the Farscape theme from I want to say season 3, where ||Crichton is summing things up the broad strokes, as I think started with season 2, but mixing in paranoid whispering of alternate phrasings like he's Gollum|| but, you know, spoilers.

And this Devilman track is firstly a techno remix of the theme from the 1973 show that tried to make it a normal superhero thing, and within the context of Crybaby, is the themesong of the version of Devilman the annoying little kid is watching on streaming sites. Devilman is weird and self-referencial like that ||and every reboot is canon to every other reboot.||

Yahoos and Triangles and Devilman no Uta. The original is classic in style, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the Platina Jazz cover, which translates the lyrics into English creatively; but the Crybaby version just has great energy.

This is a hard one for me. I've never been a big King of the Hill guy. Its a show where sometime I go through an episode and I'm like "oh, that was good" but I'm never tempted to watch any more. I feel it's similar to how some people feel about Bob's Burgers. Great intro, though. Still, I REALLY like the Farscape intro.

The weirder one is the second match up and it goes with my conflicting feelings of the Joe Cocker song. It's an undeniable epic classic that tops the original, just going for it. But I remember specifically not caring for it as a youth and that instinct is still kind of there. I'm not sure why. Felt like a song for my parents (similar to an antipathy I had for White Shade of Pale a song that describes being a bit seasick but I was listening to the Big Chill album when I was feeling kind of carsick on four hour drives to the family cottage.) I did like the Wonder Years as a kid, even if I wasn't old enough for it to really speak to me yet.

Sooo.... I think I'm going Farscape no Uta.

OK, catching up Star Fleet, Kamen Rider, Farscape and the Wonder Years all move on.

Match 11
This match... wow, this is a wild one. @Torzelbaum brought the A-Game. Dhani Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Steve Windwood, Tom Petty, Prince. All jamming to the Beatles classic While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the 2004 Induction Ceremony of George Harrison to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And they do not disappoint. Who could even stand a chance? The song is epic. Ah, but as some perfect counter programming is @Exposition Owl's haunting and eerily beautiful choice of Angelo Badalamenti and Julee Cruise's Falling, the vocal version of the iconic theme to Twin Peaks. The lyrics were written by David Lynch, too, who actually has a lot of experience in music and has release several albums of his own.

Match 12

Match 12 is a lot smaller but no less impressive. @Exposition Owl follows up sad beauty with poppy fun via "Hey Sandy" by Polaris, used as the theme song to The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Pete and Pete never actually aired on any Canadian station I could reach and that's a shame because it seemed like a genuinely sweet, clever show and while Ren and Stimpy was the big hit, this feels like what I think of when I think of early 90s Nickelodeon. On the other end is Long Hard Times to Come by Gangstagrass which @Olli gives us from Justified. It's the show's theme song and despite it's title there is also a sense of fun to it as well. I've yet to see the well-regarded neo-Western series but people keep praising this series and it is based on an Elmore Leonard short story. I got to check it out someday.

Also man was I thrown off by the 2021 date of the performance with Tom Petty and Prince, didn't realize that's when it was remastered. Such a loss of those two.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps does so with joy and next round we will have a re-Pete.

And now, Saturday morning comes early this week... IT'S AN ALL CARTOON DAY!

Match 13
@Daikaiju is in "In Trouble Again" from the first Star Wars TV series Droids (well, along with E-e-e-e-ewoks). This one is from Stewart Copeland, the drummer for the Police, though if you told me Stan Bush did it, I'd believe you. It faces my choice Sealab 2021 from Calamine, the first series from the Archer creative team. I remember the days of Napster when I loved the theme and downloaded a ton of Calamine. Sadly, no wikipedia presence but most of their music has a sort of 80s/90s alt-rock sound with some Pixies-sounds guitar. Check it out.

Match 14
@WildcatJF gives us one of, if not THE, most iconic and beloved anime intro tracks, Tank! by Seatbelts from Cowboy Bebop. A true classic, this one definitely pushed the OP game to next level and that's no small feat considering similarly iconic openers of the era like Evangelion. Also, weirdly, it was used in a promo for the forgotten thriller TV series My Own Worst Enemy (at least according to wikipedia. I could not find the promo that uses it). It's against a show that does music very well as well, @Daikaiju's choice of "It's Over Isn't It?" by Deedee Magno Hall from Steven Universe. Written by series creator Rebecca Sugar, the song is the character Pearl dealing with her inability to move on from her love of a woman now gone, despite being able to grow in other ways. And like many Steven Universe actors, she's a musician, being a member of the early 90s pop band The Party, a pop band developed by the Disney Channel.

Dannnng, that second match is brutal, pitting two of my all time favorite shows on television against each other already! Over may not be my #1 song from Steven, but it‘s touching and still makes me sniffle. Buuuuuuut I can’t say no to one of the greatest OP tunes of all time, so
