You guys know how I feel about dumb handhelds. I adore the Playdate, but I don't think it's in my price range. I don't think the price is unfair or anything, I knew it was gonna be expensive and even if all the games turn out to be the kind of thing that runs for a fiver on Steam then I still think that's a sensational deal; but looking at the sheer dollar amount, I just can't afford it.
Guess I'll finally buy a Pokémon Mini to get my novelty handheld fix!
I mean, Panic Inc. is based in Portland. The crank has real "Put a Bird on It" energy and I am digging it."twee" was also the word that came to mind. and not to say this in a disparaging way since this is obviously the appeal to me and plenty of other people, but i don't see how a weird little anachronistic game system with a lineup of exclusive indie games is not at least a little "hipster". it's possible i'm just out of touch with what everyone else knows from following actual gaming news or something but i kind of assume that most people out in the wild would not recognize the thing if i started carrying it around
Right now I'm imagining somebody releasing a crank attachment for the original Game Boy, which would enjoy 5 minutes of modest press when somebody posts about accidentally ripping the link cable port off the motherboard.
The best part of the new trailer is the overly cheerful “no!” in response to whether the screen is backlit.also where the fuck are they even sourcing non-backlit screens in 2021
I really like the “oh my god” when the dock is shown. The best part of the new trailer is the overly cheerful “no!” in response to whether the screen is backlit.
Oh, I added this to the OP, but games in Season One should be considered spoilers, since the mystery is part of the draw. I think anything outside of those is fair game, though.they have a list of games on the website
and i have to play some of those games
also it comes with the SDK for the platform
I love the Twitter feed that’s just these
(sorry this is so ugly, the logo generator just did not want to put "feeling" up top)

My pre-release hardware includes a firmware-level "upside-down" mode to put the crank on the left side if you prefer. Not ideal for games that revolve around buttons, but for crank-only games, it totally works.
