I was watching a movie on my PS4 tonight which played fine, but suddenly started stuttering and freezing during the post-credits. (Yeah yeah it was a Marvel movie. Surprise!) Thinking there might be a hair or something on the disc, I ejected it, and was horrified to find a ring of dozens of scratches all around the middle of the disc. This is a blu-ray which I bought new and have taken very good care of, and I know it didn't have this damage before tonight. I checked the last disc I had in my PS4 before this, and noticed the same pattern beginning to form on it, though to a lesser degree. My PS4 has somehow become a disc shredder.
That this had to have started happening around the time of the apparent lightning strike that messed up all my Comcast shit a few days ago (and which has caused numerous small electrical oddities across the rest of the house which I am still discovering) has not escaped my notice, but so far defies rational explanation. Conclusion: lightning ghosts, also known as boltergeists
Has this or anything similar happened to anyone else? I got it in early 2018 so there's no way it's still under warranty. Is there a fix, or should I start looking for a replacement? It seems deeply silly to buy a new PS4 when its successor has been out for a year and a half already, but I don't see myself being able to acquire a PS5 anytime soon, and the PS4 is my only blu-ray player. But I may as well look at all options, so if anyone has acquired a PS5 and is therefore looking to get rid of their (gently used, NON-HAUNTED) PS4, let me know how much you'd want for it. Thanks.
