I would love to have seen the director of this video's voiceover session trying to get the narrator to deliver just the right amount of menace on the word "amiibo".
Meanwhile, the Japanese commercial... (Spoiler warnings again)

Well if Butt Rock ends up being the game's greatest flaw, consider me ecstatic.

Excuse me while I build another mod on top of Other M: Maxximum Edition where I replace all of Samus's audio with random Iron Sheik snippets.

I wish I was more excited for Metroid Dread than I am. I couldn't even muster up enough motivation to even try playing Samus Returns, so the last Metroid I actually played was Other M (ouch). I think it's time for me to acknowledge that Nintendo is taking its 2D Metroids in a direction I don't particularly care for -- too much of an action game feeling, when, yeah I guess all I really want is Super Metroid Again. Happy for people who are excited for this though! And maybe I will change my mind/get caught up in FOMO and play anyway.

I feel similarly Yangus. Once I hear what people say about the final game I’ll see if I end up getting it.

I will be keeping up the thread cos I am still interested.

btw, this game is out in the open now, so it's a good idea to be aware of spoilers

What is this "Other M" you speak of? [idontknowher.gif]

To get hyped up for Metroid Dread, I've been replaying some selections of the main series, Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion. (meant to play AM2R, but time...) Zero, Super, and Fusion have been super fun to replay as always, very snappy, engaging... Samus Returns is a perfectly competent Metroidvania interpretation, but it was a slog to get through again, and kind of put a damper on my enthusiasm for Dread. I think Mercury Steam learned some lessons from it, going by the trailers for Dread, but I'm still cautious in my expectations. I'll be getting it, of course, but I'm hoping to be surprised a bit.

I think most of my issues with Samus Returns stem mainly from the fact that it's a Metroid 2 remake. I'm hopeful that freed from those concerns we can get something special.

Metroid 2 original doesnt feel like either 1 or Super, but has a real novel structure. Samus Returns is not that. it's trying to force it into something closer to Super, with a lot of labourious combat and sterile unexciting backgrounds.

Like it def has some highlights, but kinda misses the mark, and I think being more like 2 would be a boon.

I skimmed a few reviews this morning and the Polygon one has me leaning towards picking this up after all. Might still wait for more impressions from people here though.

Well that's because Metroid 2 metroid fights are deeply uninteresting. For alphas you basically bung missiles at them until 1) it dies or 2) you die. And you repeat the same unfulfilling fight so many times. The counter basically makes things mechanically more interesting, with the side effect of making regular fights more annoying. And the backgrounds couldn't be more unexciting than the Game Boy ones, which make route finding horrible.

Adding Super Metroid music (amazing remixes at that) gives it a great soundtrack but runs the ambience.
