Legends & Lattes - August 2024 Book Club Reading

John

I tapped out as well. It was just, well, too slight, too little, and ultimately not interesting enough for me to finish. I think everyone has pointed out the same flaws, it's just personal preference if they raise up to your cutoff level. It wasn't bad in any means, and much better than anything I could ever write, but it felt like the writer could've been a sheltered kid who finally went off to college and discovered tabletop games and coffee, two things that their parents disallowed at home. I was a little surprised when I looked up the author and saw he was a mid-40's videogame designer, but that does make sense, it's about the level of writing I'd expect from games.

This is exactly what I wanted in a cozy book. Low stakes, good friends, some trouble. I can understand why others had issues with the lightness of the book but it is certainly what I needed after some of my more recent reading.
