Inktober 2020

Regulus

Yeah... I fell in love with her design the first time I saw it. I really should play the game some day.

Here's day 27: "Music"

My mom saw I-no and asked me to draw Marceline, another cool girl with a guitar.

Awesome pictures! Great sense of light and reflection. The guitar witch is wild, love it.

I did a couple but don't have the will to do the whole hosting/linking dance. Sorry!

Thanks! Glad you got to do a few, at least. I'd probably be less inclined to do that dance if I couldn't just post cell phone pics directly to imgur (hence the iffy looking blacks in my photos, hah).

Happy Halloween, everyone. Here's Day 30's drawing: "Ominous"

I stretched the prompt word a bit. I suppose Green Orange back there is a little ominous. The main drive behind this piece was redoing 2019's day 31 ("Ripe"), which I had big hopes for but which ended up being a bit of a dud. I guess the drawing wasn't quite ripe. Here's what it looked like:

Pretty dramatic difference. I'd like to pretend I've just improved that much, but this is more a result of better tools and time input. The 2019 piece was done in a few hours with a couple of Tombow water-based brush tip markers. This year's piece was done over the course of about 12 hours (I didn't finish on the 30th, lol) using roughly 11 and a half alcohol-based Copic Sketch markers.

Some of the shading on the bodysuits could have been done better (I struggled a bit due to lack of a halfway color between the Sea Green and Teal Blue I was using), but I'm generally pretty happy with how things turned out.

That's incredible! Arguably my favorite yet. I'm trying to place where this is from but it's not coming to me...

Thanks! It's from ZeroRanger, my game of the year for 2018. And 2019? Maybe 2020, too, though Fae Tactics is a pretty strong contender.

I like to do something special on the last day of the event. Without further ado, day 31: "Crawl"

Love it! Do the rune-bubbles on the ZeroRanger piece mean something, or are they just random SHMUP power-ups?

I believe they're numbers 0 though 7 in Sanskrit. There's a lot of Buddhist theming and symbolism in the game that is tied into the story (but I'm not an expert in Buddhism or really qualified to say how well it's applied). The orbs with the symbols in them specifically show up as the game's end-of-stage powerups (though there are only 6 of them, so they use numbers 1-6).

Semi-related: I posted this on twitter and got a retweet and compliments from the devs, so that made my day.

Also, thank you all for the supportive comments over the last month. I really appreciate all of it.

Inktober post-mortem: Inktober is always kind of exhausting... and maybe moreso this year, because I stopped adhering to the "I have to finish by midnight on the same day" requirement that I imposed upon myself in 2018 and 2019. I've been running on 4-5 hours of sleep most nights (ha... ha?), but I'm mostly really happy with the output this year. 2020 has been a shitshow of a year, so it was kind of nice to bury my head in something I enjoy. I focused a lot on color this year, which has been a bit of a learning experience for me because I don't do it very often. I'm thinking next I need to challenge myself a bit by tackling environments instead of sticking all of my figures in the Abyss. I don't draw nearly as often outside of October, but maybe I'll post an art thread on here.

Loved seeing your art all month long Regulus! Super awesome stuff all the way through. Looking forward to your future art thread, whenever that happens!
