Digital Down-Low for 02/26/2021: H*ck in a Handbucket

Don't be alarmed, but I think these games might be made of videos.

We're kicking off this palooka-ville nonsense this week with Rogue Heroes, which you will not at all be even remotely surprised to learn is a roguelite. What's less immediately obvious is that it's also a Zeld-em-up. Furthermore, in this case, the Roguing is apparently randomly selected dungeon rooms, rather than everything. And also it's got co-op, instead of no-op!

Cybattler is last weeks arcade game, and I forgot to mention it then, but I'm not forgetting about it now! It's a shmup, with a robot instead of a spaceship. Supposed to be pretty darn good, if you like those kind of things. Give it a try why don't you?

Dry Drowning is a talksy-based murder-em-up where you're a gumshoe in the future, trying to figure out who dunn did all them murders what got done lately.

Blizzard Arcade Collection is a release I'm of two minds about; on the one hand it's a collection of Blizzards really good older games which haven't been touched in decades; The Lost Vikings (one of the original puzzle-platformers, certainly the game that perfected the concept), Blackthorne (Prince of Persia, by way of a 90s comic book) and Rock n Roll Racing (RC Pro-Am, except in the future), but on the other; none of them are arcade games. A FULL THIRD OF THE TITLE IS A DAMN LIE!

Rock n Roll Racing is at least "arcade-style" if you want to go down that road, but the other two are not and I am having none of it.

Curse of the Dead Gods is the first of what I presume will be many Hades inspired action-rpg roguelites. Well, second, maybe, there's also Gods Will Fall. Anyhoo, this is an action RPG, the game scrambles everything up when you die, and it's got some REAL NICE art to go along with it; like Darkest Dungeon except with polygons!

Ghosts n Goblins: Resurrected is one of the games I figured I should title the thread after, and it's the first new GnG game in about 15 years! Though, of course, this being Ghosts and Goblins, any squidge of any game in the series after the first level counts as being New GnG Content for me. This time there's a new art style and a difficulty level that's lowered to the point that beating the game is not completely unfeasible for someone with my skill level.

Hellpoint is the other thread title worthy game this week. From the trailer it looks to be some manner of Souls-em-up, but set in a monster-infested spaceship, like Doom. It's got a Goosebumps-inducing soundtrack, according to the eShop description. So beware, you're in for a scare!

Legal Dungeon is a neat idea for a text adventure, where you have to navigate (metaphorical) mazes of poorly documented legal cases in order to piece together the truth of what really happened in various criminal trials.

And finally, what's probably the biggest release of the week even if it didn't get the title spot, we have the third Bravely Default game, Bravely Default 2! Which i have purposely kept myself in the dark about because I really loved Bravely Default and Bravely Second so me enjoying this is pretty much a gimme. Just fromt he screenshots, I can tell that The Good Bits I liked are present so everything else is gravy.

K, that's probably everything, but I was wrong twice last week, so WHO KNOWS!

If there's a Bravely Default, a Bravely Second, and a Bravely Default 2, will there be a Bravely Third or a Bravely Second 2?

Bold of you to assume that this series' nomenclature could ever be extrapolated by mere mortals.

Also, I checked out the Legal Dungeon trailer because I misunderstood the premise as abstracting the bureaucratic investigation as literal dungeons, which I would be 101% for, but it's really just the Persona 3 protagonist navigating lots and lots of cascading menus? I'm... sure that kind of thing has its fans, but I see enough of that at work, thanks.

Er, the navigating lots of cascading menus part, not the P3 protag part.

I was going to put this in the "hidden gems of the eshop" thread, but I couldn't find it, so this one will work just as well: There's a demo out for Rogue Heroes, and I highly suggest that just about everyone who frequents this place go check it out immediately, it's absolutely in our wheelhouse. It's a roguelite that has strong strong Link to the Past vibes. I've played a couple of these, and this is easily my favorite of the lot. The demo is meaty too, it took me 8 hours to complete, and it looks like I got about 20% through the game.
