Digital Down-Low for 02/12/2021: MARIO! PEACH! LUIGI! GIANT BOWSER ALL-OUT ATTACK!

Attention Every People; A Video Game Has Happened. I am here to tell you about it

Little Monsters 2 is a spooks-em-up about a w'il kid in a raincoat, and their buddy with a sack-head lost in a nightmare world chock full of creepy broken dolls and tall faceless peeps trying to platform their way around deadly traps in order to get to a weird glowing tower that's caused things to get spooped up. It's like Limbo, but with 1000% more Doll Murders.

The Flower Collectors is an adventurous murder-solve-em-up where you're trying to uncover the who did of a whodunnit, all while confined to a wheelchair and needing to work with a buddy to uncover the clues and bring the killer to justice. Much like Rear Window. Except it's set in 1970s Barcelona. And also everyone is a critter. Which I believe was what Hitchcock envisioned, but the studio wouldn't allow it.

Far and away the most relevant release this week, and arguably this month, is Super Mario 3D World: Bowsers Fury. A gussying up of what one could consider to be the very top-tier of every game in the Jumpmans exhausting library. And while that alone would be enough for most people, they've gone ahead and added a whole new mode; the titular Bowsers Fury which, from the trailers, appears to be Mario Odyssey if it was built around trying to drive off a massive Bowser Kaiju.

Needless to say, I am VERY EXCITED for the clock to hit Friday so I can get my grubby mitts all over this nonsense.

Gal*Gun 2 is... a game I feel compelled to at least acknowledge, begrudgingly. This here is a light-gun rail shooter; like your House of the Deads or Time Crises or whatnot. Only instead of zombies or aliens or terrorists or cowboys, they're anime teens. And instead of dying, shooting them makes them horny, and you are tasked with finding where, exactly, you have to plug these teenagers fulla lead in order to really get their motor revving.

One of the selling points in the eshop is the sheer breadth of design that went into each one of the teenagers underpants.

Keep it classy, video game industry.

Halloween Forever I'm only mentioning because the idea of releasing a Ween-em-up platformer on Valentimes just tickles me right. Anyway, it's a platformer, looks like a Commodore 64 game. Y'got a pumpkin boy.

And finally, doing a better job of catching the spirit of a holiday correctly during the cultural zeitgeist, we have Half Past Fate: Romantic Distancing, it's a text-based loves-em-up about a couple of romantic romancers trying to continue their relationship even though a bunch of germs is telling them to stay inside and avoid people. It looks lovely and charming!

Also, Gal*Gun Returns is the one coming out this week; Gal*Gun 2 is a couple years old now.

Halloween Forever looks fun and I'd rather play a Halloween game on Valentines than a Valtentines one so good show

Normally, I would balk at "Long Distance Relationship: The Game" but it feels like the pandemic has changed most single people's perception of LDRs anyway, so I might give it a shot.

It's also a hell of a thing to see media already developed in the context of the pandemic lockdowns.

If you guessed that the latest additions to NESflix would be Doomsday Warrior, Prehistoric Man, Fire 'N Ice, and Psycho Dream, I don't believe you
