Well that was what one might call a *mistake*.
New plan: load the save before I did that, do it again, loot the city and don't change my home point.

First crystal was beatsmith and I've also gotten mercury shards from drops.

Some of the randomized progression is going to be weird, I can tell already....

That's a pretty good early roster! Assassin would normally be low-tier early on save for that you have no Warrior, and both that and Dervish have easy access to debuffs that help a lot, to say nothing of Beatsmith.

Yeah, Chemist / Warlock was my bread and butter support during my first playthrough so a little sad to see them so early, but the rest of the classes are neat to start with.

Main issue with that is that my warlock is wearing some good medium armor no one else can use right now.
Also I'm going to need a guide on what exactly "progression" is in the randomizer. lol
Seems like when you get one kind of item every instance is swapped. Penguins give a seed, bones give milk...

I can't answer that since I usually avoid going too ham on randomization. But I can hazard a guess: "progression" means stuff that you need to access other areas on par with the expected progression of the game (mount summon tools, Mars Stone, etc).

The crystal project people pointed me to crystal tool, which has a tab formrandomizer settings showing vanilla progression.

Other two starting classes are weaver and aegis. Woo, tank!
(And maybe a fast casting dervish)

Okay, may have to bail on this run. I overrandomized. Some stuff like potion bags being shuffled is a little silly. Also this is a 60 hour game and I have done nothing to cut that down.

A shame, early weaver and beatsmith was pretty cool.

Does the randomizer have any options for reducing the length of the game or anything like that?

Randomizing key items will usually reduce the length of the game by virtue of giving you an early Owl Drum or something.

You can also tweak XP/LP/GP within the accessibility options.

Yeah, I should give it another go with things like item pouches unshuffeled.

None of those sliders seem to go... up?

Anyway I started a new run with less absurd randomization options. Got an early quintar flute. Likely just something to pick apart for a few months.

I started this a while ago! I'm around level 37 and just got the second mount, the Ibek, so I can finally Jump Good and the map is opening up a lot, so I have some exploration to do. Off the top of my head, maybe going west of the capital is finally not too strong for me. There's the volcano to the SE of the desert, too. And having looked at some guides, the mountains north of the capital are apparently also an option atm. We'll see if I'm forgetting anything.

I started with a warrior, monk, cleric and black mage and have more or less kept those roles the same.

Warrior -> Vanguard -> Reaper. The Bloodbind sword kicks ass already and synergizes extremely well with reaper, and luckily half of reaper's skills are weapon agnostic so I don't need to actually equip a scythe when paired with warrior's secondary skills, I have a full arsenal. I just got my first weapon stronger than bloodbind but luckily only by 5% or so, so I'm keeping the BB for now. I still use warrior's secondary skill because the big hit that normally causes retaliation damage simply doesn't with my lifedrain setup. This is my favorite character setup right now, it's just so satisfying.

Monk -> Fencer -> Monk -> Hunter. The lack of synergy here is kind of frustrating (can't use fencing w/o rapier, can't use monk w/o barehand, can't use hunter w/o bow... right now I have monk secondary on hunter because some of the chi/support skills can still be useful. Hunter does really good damage though and I like their cooldown system more than monk's AP system (I never minded fencer's ap because their moves are all nice and cheap, making them essentially infinite). I might switch them to Ninja at some point since I've unlocked that, but...it's yet another DPS class with no synergy to the previous ones, unless I'm mistaken.

Cleric -> Scholar -> ???. This one is still stuck on scholar because "skills cost less MP" is pretty great as a passive and I don't know what else to do with them right now that both jobs are mastered (well, scholar isn't mastered, but I learned both of the buyable skills so it essentially is). I put them as a warlock for a bit, just long enough to get refresher, but their mind is low enough that damage caster isn't a great path for them regardless. They have a decent attack and spark shine/aero do decent damage, but they exist largely for support. Wondering how to fix that. I guess I can stick them in warlock for a while longer to even out stat gains? I dunno. Maybe I'll just make them a DPS class with secondary white magic or something. Monk? shrug

Wizard -> Shaman -> warlock -> Dervish. Black magic all the way! Shaman was neat but mainly struck me as "slightly expanded black magic," and Dervish...also seems that way, but less squishy. Lifedrain on shaman was pretty good though... Warlock was OK too, but Refresher was really the draw there. I wish I'd gotten it on both my casters sooner. We'll see where Dervish takes us.

Oh hey, I just picked this game up about a week ago, and I'm about the same party level as Paul, but still haven't gotten the second mount yet. Mostly having a good time with it, though I have found myself somewhat annoyed with the platforming precision at times. I like the idea of having an open world design in practice, although getting lost in the desert did end up with me being a bit over-leveled for some other paths that were open to me at the time. I actually only ended up finding out what I was supposed to do in the desert by doing some platforming and entering the desert city from the east side, and only afterwards seeing that I was intended to discover the city from its western gate. Ah, adventure.

Update! I'm at level 54 or so. Party:
Tank/Fighter became a valkyrie and then a Samurai, but nothing has felt as good as Reaper with Bloodbind. Ugh, I hate that I'm getting weapons that outclass it so much. I wonder if it would still work...
DPS became a ninja and I frankly wasn't that impressed, but then I found assassin who can use a bow and now they're like a hunter but sometimes do insane extra damage. I like.
Healer became a Valkyrie too and I've liked having him do a tiny bit of extra damage while being tankier and being able to heal with those neat aoe heals, so he's been stuck there for now. I just got nomad and have no idea what to do with it, but maybe I'll try it on him...?
Caster went to master warlock then back to Dervish for now. Not entirely sure what to do with her next, or whether to stick with Shaman or Dervish. I like Dervish's MP sustainability (especially combined with Refresher) for adventuring, but maybe Shaman's life drain and DoT would be better for bosses. Ooh, maybe I'll start doing that, switching them for the different situations.

I now have 4 mounts and unlocked diamond equipment (well, armor) and I think I'm basically in the endgame, but I know there are some superbosses I still can't beat (I know of...four off the top of my head, not counting the Summoner deities. Lol I don't even HAVE the summoner class.) There's also at least one area I forgot to visit (the Quintar Reserve) that I need to double back and visit.

Maxed out everyone at level 60 and beat the game. Final party:
Reaper/Warrior
Assassin/Hunter
Valkyrie/Cleric
Dervish/Wizard

I haven't done all the superbosses or the Quintar breeding to access the secret zone, I didn't get more than one Summoner boss fought, but overall I think I got what I wanted from it. There's a lot more meat on the bone for people who like to go Sicko Mode on a game, but for me I'm happy to say that Crystal Project kicks ass and move on.
