There's a glowy moss set? Well that's neat.

Yeah, you can occasionally get the glowing moss recipes from bottles on the beach.
So I finally bothered to go on another Kapp'n excursion to get moss recipes, got a couple. But then I got a cherry blossom island with a cherry blossom recipe on the beach?! I had no idea the other sets were on here too. Guess I'm going to be doing the excursions more often.

The kinds of islands you can encounter definitely depend on how long you've been playing the game but yeah you can totally find seasonals on some of the random daily islands.

Lionel came up asked me for a new catchphrase so as usual when I get asked this I looked up what his phrases are in other languages. He says "precisely" in English and most of the other languages seem to be some variation on that.

Except German. German is just "grrroooh".

So now Lionel just goes grrroooh and I find the change immensely entertaining.

There's nothing in particular going on, but I'm about to be in a long conference call from home and figured I'd open my gates. Town is Procyon. Feel free to buy anything at the shops, take anything from the free pile by the airport and to pick any gold roses you'd like.

I'm very unlikely to be able to hop off and check the connection so hoping it behaves...

i got back into this game back in july and have been playing pretty regularly since then, and more importantly mustered up the fortitude to actually clear out the endless flower field and fruit orchard that used to cover 1/3 of my island and replace it with, like, actual stuff.

i've almost finished my art museum with only eight pieces to go - unfortunately though at least one of them I have never seen in my game (the Manet Bar Woman) and fake versions of two of them (the Wild Paintings) constantly show up at Harv's, so who knows how long it'll take.

Okay, Animal Crossing: New Horizons just screwed me over, and I don't understand why.

I check the title screen and see Gullivarr on the beach. Wonderful! That means I don't have to check in the rest of the week! But AEW is about to come on, so I turn it off to come back after.

I come back after AEW, start it up, and... Label is here instead?! What happened to Gullivarr? Does the island visitor for the day change if you don't actually start the game or something? We're only talking about about an hour or so apart here.

Would really love to know what the deal is here.

I watched the Animal Crossing anime movie last night after hearing some bad things about it, and it was pretty much what I expected. I'm choosing to describe it as cozy and charming rather than boring, but the hard truth is that basically nothing happens in it. It's 90 minutes of people walking around being generally pleasant to each other. At least in the game when nothing happens, you're the person it's not happening to. Still, it's very relaxing and cute and I don't regret watching it.

One thing that surprised me was how few animals there were in it. You'd think they'd want to cram as many cameos in as they could since everybody wants to see one of their villagers, but they had their cast of about a dozen and they stuck with it. Great news if you're a Margie fan, I guess. I know modeling characters takes work, but that's Animal Crossing, baby.

I'm pretty sure the game doesn't "end" its day at midnight, but around 5 PM PST much like Splatoon 3 does.

It's been a while but I don't think that's true. Most stuff changes overnight, not in the middle of the day. The official day-change might not be 'til 5 AM, but it's still late night/early morning.

It's been a while since I played, so I'm happy to admit I could be wrong, haha.

Yeah, 5am is the reset, if you're playing that's the one time the screen will go black. I know it only projects visitors out for a couple days from your last play. If it had been a couple days since @LBD_Nytetrayn had gone past the title screen I don't think it would have locked in yet.

Rumors are swirling, from leakers who are apparently reliable, that Lego is putting out five Animal Crossing-themed sets in March 2024.

Looks Like Lego Animal Crossing Sets Are Coming (via Kotaku)

According to the leakers, here are the five sets planned for release with their rumored prices and datamined piece counts:
  • Set 77046 – $14.99 (170 pieces)
  • Set 77047 – $19.99 (164 pieces)
  • Set 77048 – $29.99 (233 pieces)
  • Set 77049 – $39.99 (389 pieces)
  • Set 77050 – $74.99 (535 pieces)

No pictures yet, nor any details beyond price/piece count as to what the sets might actually be.

I'm gonna level with you, I am losing my mind over this. Building Lego sets and playing ACNH are two of the most soothing, therapeutic, endlessly engaging activities for me, so the idea of them coming together is already generating some serious dopamine. If this isn't real I'm gonna cry.

So, people who would be interested in this: what do you want to see? I'm gonna guess it'll shake out like this:

$14.99 -- outdoor activity set (trees, rocks, bugs, etc.), no buildings
$19.99 -- small animal's house
$29.99 -- larger Villager's house
$39.99 -- Nook's Cranny
$79.99 -- Museum with The Roost (and Resident Services?)

The sets will come with male and female Villager minifigs, and the important NPCs like Nook, Isabelle and Blathers. Then the animals will be sold individually, blind-bagged, and Lego will make a hundred kabillion dollars because people will go nuts trying to find their favorite animals. Wars will be fought and blood will be spilt over Sasha. Ione will divide families and pit brother against brother. It will be forbidden to speak Raymond's name in polite company.

is it March yet

I want a huge ass museum set. Aquarium, The Roost, fossils, observatory, bug zone, art and Redd, all of it.

The more I think about it the more it feels like it would translate to something more like a dollhouse than a Lego set, but I'm excited to see what they announce.

Teg brought up a good point on Discord: at those price points, these sets probably aren't going to be very big, even the $74.99 one. My Lego purchases are few and far between (mostly due to a lack of space to put them) so I don't have a good sense of what you typically get for your money, but I will calibrate my expectations accordingly.

Get them and build them so I can live vicariously through you. The closest I've come to being interested in a Lego thing in a long time is the Horizon Zero Dawn tallstrider (which was also expensive) and these might come close, but I'm definitely intrigued enough to see how they pan out.

Well, I need to go to Seattle before this closes Dec 31st.

Beginning October 7th, guests can enjoy characters from the video game while learning about our mission: Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment. Come face-to-face with marine animals such as sea otters, harbor seals, octopus, hundreds of species of fish and more! This is the first time an aquarium experience like this is available in North America. The exhibit will include several exciting features available for both members and the public, including:

  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons photo opportunity, featuring an aquarium themed background with characters from the game.
  • Themed creature descriptions presented by Blathers with information directly from the game.
  • Standees of familiar characters from the game throughout the Aquarium near a wide variety of habitats.
  • A bingo scavenger hunt, available via smart device to ensure guests don’t miss any of the fun!

All five sets are now up on Lego.com -- just search for "animal crossing" and they'll come up. Preorders aren't open yet, though.

So, uh... Leif was on my island all of last week. And so far, all of this week. Not counting Saturday, of course.

Um... I forget, how long is he supposed to stay?

It's been a loooooong time but having the same visitor every day is unusual. Does he need you to do something? I feel like you have to pick weeds or something for him the first time but again it's been forever.
