A bark bigger than their bite: MONSTER HUNTER on the SWITCH

narcodis

the titular game boy
(he/him)

This direct contained two new monster hunter games

Monster Hunter: RISE

and

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

First impressions: DOGGO

The verticality of the levels seems like a fun way to explore the levels and I like the magic grappling hooks (the Wirebug).
If I was a Switch owner, I would buy this on day one.

I hope the jewel and talisman system hews closer to classic MH than World.

I found fiddling with slots and jewels in the former to be really compelling, but the magic just wasn't there in World.

(Maybe it changed in Iceborne, but I didn't give that one a go.)

Otherwise, this look as promising as MH + Bionic Commando could be! ⚔

I'm also excited for grappling hook action!!!! The way it integrates with combos seems really awesome.

Also, monster hunter stories 2! I need to finish playing the first one. I remember being pleasantly surprised with it but just didn't finish it for some reason.

All MH needed for me was more mobility, and this looks like it has that in spades. Loving the Bionic Commando and Strider movement nods. I may have to give this one a go!

I really loved seeing the verticality and wirebug movement that was displayed, so maybe this will be the MH entry that finally sinks its hooks in me. Hopefully we'll see a nice, meaty demo because I've been itching to play a hunting-style game and God Eater 3 didn't cut it.
