I do not particularly mind the Diviner getting marooned. It's clear Tars Lamora was set up so that he wouldn't suffocate to death despite the ship at the heart of the mining operation now having disembarked, so there's probably enough automated equipment set up to ensure he survives. I'm also not really sure what else they could have or should have done in that situation either. They're not in Federation space, this isn't Starfleet's jurisdiction; making him subject to Federation laws and penalties and taking him captive isn't exactly justice either. And there are no actual Starfleet officers on board the Protostar legally empowered to do the legal business of arresting him for his crimes against Starfleet specifically. They can't let him go home, since he's a time traveler, and his people haven't even been contacted by the Federation/don't know alien life exists yet. Like, there's no real good solution here. And I think it's also probably important to remember that implicit here is that the Protostar-kids likely protected his life from reprisals from The Unwanted. You're gonna tell me, a violent uprising of slaves wouldn't have lynched their captor if given the chance? They did a lot more for him than they probably should have or were obligated to. Also, there's like, a 0.000003% chance we'll actually never hear of this character again either. They'll be back eventually for sure. If only so at some point, Gwyn can show him he was wrong all along.

Gwyn survived it. Maybe the entire race is Medusan-resistant. Besides, if they want the Diviner back, they'll have him back regardless. I think Sabertooth from the X-Men comics was given severe brain damage, until his healing factor or some other plot catalyst bullshit brought back what he lost. I don't want the Diviner back, because he's a creepy dick, but the bile he forces up into my mouth is probably an indication that he's an effective villain who should not be so quickly disposed.

Wisteria's right, though. They could have fed the Diviner to the ore miners, and he would have had it coming. I remember Wonder Woman (played by Lucy friggin' Lawless!) made a similar choice in Justice League: Last Frontier, when she let some Vietnamese women who were captured and exploited by soldiers choose their own punishment for the men who violated them. The women sure didn't leave them stranded on a remote island.

So this show started back up on the same day as the season finale of Lower Decks. And I missed this show a lot. It's very charming. And Kate Mulgrew really does some strong work here as both Hologram Janeway and Admiral Janeway. This last episode had some Insectoid Xindi farting about and I squealed a bit in my seat. Glad this show is back. I'm gonna be sad in month or so when it's over again.

Of course the kids show has them defeating Borg assimilation through the power of friendship. Though it makes sense that Borg tech would have a hard time maintaining control over a Medusan. Zero’s the best.

When you put it like that, it sounds silly. But when you get down to the core thematic elements of what the Borg are, and how our Star Trek heroes usually defeat them by leveraging the strengths of their individuality, and still pooling together those strengths by working together by choice rather than as mindless thralls... the Borg has literally always been taken down by the power of Friendship. The way they did it here was a very worthy of the franchise.

Something I think is exciting is that what this season of Prodigy is potentially building towards. Prodigy takes place in 2383, which is two years before the events of Star Trek Picard where there was an android uprising on Mars, and four years before the supernova that fractures the Romulan Star Empire. This last week, the Prodigy-kids hightailed it to the Romulan Neutral Zone. The last episode of the season is called "Supernova" so exciting stuff here maybe?

Also, something Prodigy is doing (and apparently the last few shows have done) is post short little skits/vignette officer logs onto Instagram. The other shows have done logs for various characters kind of recapping the events of episodes. They're cute but disposable. Prodigy however is taking things a little differently, where they're all Vice Admiral Janeway's personal logs. Man I love Kate Mulgrew.

Okane... Okane... wasn't he some Han Solo wannabe in Star Trek: The Next Generation? Same character? Same actor?

"Okana", yes, yes, yes.
He's a fun character from an otherwise unremarkable/boring episode because the whole point of his character is to take the piss out of Han Solo.

How very inconsiderate of Paramount to show its child audience Medusans without some kind of filter. Now kids everywhere are going to get space madness, and convince their little brothers to press the history eraser bu-

Yeah, really strong episode this week. It's great to have backstories filled in for a few of our Prodigies. Loved the Jankom Pog skit for why he is the way he is. It's essentially what I expected all along and couldn't have been executed any better. Is Jankom Pog the best? I'm pretty sure he's the best. Also Rok is pretty great. Honestly, everyone is great. It's really weird how much I love all of these characters. I hope this show goes on for many, many years. Also, give me more of Admiral Space-Mom any day. Inject into my veins!!!

(un-erases himself from history. Hey, if Ash Crimson can do it!)

I've been critical of Voyager in the past, but I've got to say, Kate Mulgrew puts in some strong performances on this series, and sets a firm dividing line dividing Holographic Janeway (an idealized but slightly flat version of the character in her Voyager prime) and actual, flesh and blood Janeway (older, less polished, and decidedly more world weary). It's like she's playing both good cop and bad cop.

Ha! Body swap episode! And Kate Mulgrew gets to play a hot-headed teenage boy! And it's fairly convincing! The guy who plays Dal did a pretty decent job of playing Janeway, too. Not as good as that Voyager episode where Seven of Nine and the Doc swap bodies, but still pretty entertaining.

(Also, there's a Threshold reference, see if you can catch it!)

I wouldn't be surprised if they pitched that episode to get Mulgrew on-board in the first place. So much fun.

I was also saying immediately before watching the episode that I hoped the Diviner would have a mini-face turn out of gratitude, so I'm glad we got that. His behavior has been beyond redemption but it's good to see a bit of humanity in that character (for lack of a better term), even if it's temporary.

I love Dal being a Soong-adjacent experiment. It makes him feel worthless and the Federation is going to treat him like crap, but the right pep talk could show him that, dude, you're part of the most interesting and important family in the galaxy. It's too bad he won't have a chance to meet Data.

This show is great. I like seeing a Star Trek where the crew starts out completely incompetent and gets better as they go.

Major props to Prodigy for doing a bodyswap episode where the voices don't also switch. Sounds like Mulgrew was having a blast.

The character animation was pretty good too. It really felt like they animated the scene with Dal's model doing all the things Dal would do, but then just swapped in Janeway.

Also hey, "Threshold" continues very much to be canon, eat your heart out haters.

This week's episode was fucking I N C R E D I B L E...!!!

If a show can give me like one or two moments a season where I just freak out in my seat and break composure/lose it because I'm so drawn in, I'd consider the show more than worth my while. I had like five such moments in this episode alone.

Yeah, pretty great. This show does a good job of giving everyone something to do.

A satisfying end for the Diviner, too. I’m not going to shed any tears over a slaver biting it, but I’m glad he chose his daughter in the end, and that his last words were giving her his blessing to fix this mess her way, not his. Poor Gwyn.

Gwyn is a tough cookie and will handle it fine. I'm just so happy that Dal's character growth came to a crescendo and he gave up the Captain's chair to Gwyn of his own accord. Beautiful moment, handled with tons of grace. And something that the show had been building up to since the start.

Wow. That was pure balls to the wall, pedal to the metal action with enormous stakes. I dare say this is going to go down as one of the great, defining moments of Trek, like the first Borg encounter or the climax of Star Trek II.

MMmmmmmmm what a great conclusion to Season 1. Everything went about as I expected, but the execution here was a perfect 10/10. This show was so much better than it had any right to be, and I can't wait to see where things go in Season 2. The world is their oyster! Looking forward to seeing where our Prodigies go next.

I dunno if it's related to anything, but Voyager is supposedly trending on Paramount+ right now. I like to think it's because Captain Space-Mom is the best, and people can't get enough now that the show is over.

I was a bit worried Kate Mulgrew was only interested in sticking around for a season, but looks like they're just swapping out Hologram Janeway for the real deal. I hope we see that Holo-Janeway again in some form, though. A lot can happen when you explode yourself across spacetime!

I love that they couldn't get into Starfleet proper so instead they end up as Janeway's interns, which will just end up fast-tracking their careers.

Apple iZero!

I assume Season Two will be searching for Chakotay and they'll need Gwyn to do it.

I was never worried about Mulgrew. She's not above voiceover work (does tons of other cartoons and video games) and if you take her word for it, she relishes it. (Seems to really enjoy being able to go ham in a recording booth, doing the kinds of flourishes that would look awkward IRL.) As long as the showrunners want her there, and as long as the paychecks keep coming, and as long as the material there was interesting/fun for Mulgrew, she'll be there. What I'm worried about is Gwyn's voice actress. Ella Purnell's career is really beginning to take off. There's going to come a point where making cartoons is not going to be a good ROI for her time versus other things she could be doing/she's going to need more pay than the cartoon's budget can afford. Having her character go in a different direction than everyone else feels to me like a safety net where they can have her in the next season as much or as little as the situation demands. But we'll see!

I assume Season Two will be searching for Chakotay and they'll need Gwyn to do it.
Apparently, the showrunners let slip in an interview that the original plan for Season 2 was going to just be a Starfleet Academy show. But they got talked down from that plan because 1) they let it slip that a different Starfleet Academy show is definitely going to get made, and 2) they realized that they'd be doing their target audience (of kids) and their show a huge disservice by going from fun rhomp through the stars, to a show about going to school. Which I'd have to agree with 100%.

Aw, dang. I assumed “I have to go now, my planet needs me” was just going to be a Saru situation where she does a bunch of stuff off-screen between seasons and is immediately back. The group would definitely be missing something without her.

Great finale, and yeah, them choosing to keep the kids out there having adventures instead of sticking them in a classroom for Season 2 was the right call.

Imagine how those kids will react when they realize that
they had Training Bra Janeway, and that they're moving up to the considerably less comfortable real thing. Sorry kids, but this one's been in the washer a few times, and some of the wire is exposed.

From what the showrunners and the main actors have all said about next season, that is indeed going to be a major theme going forward.
