Oh yeah, our third answer was 100% "well we need to put SOMETHING down" so no points for that one. For the second answer my husband did say "they make an ultra-sonic noise" so that was the intent of screech although I could have been more specific when I wrote our answer.
Cerberus
1. Which Greek hero brought Cerberus back from Hell?
Hercules/Heracles
2. Though Cerberus is generally presented as a canine, what other animal’s qualities is it sometimes presented with?
The answer I was looking for was snake but there are multiple paintings of Cerberus with leonine qualities, too so I'll throw lion in there.
3. Which two monsters spawned Cerberus?
Typhon and Echidna, pictured below.

Yaara dropped out. Shame. I think it would be more fun if there were a few more teams, though I understand coordination might take more time than is wanted. But really, anyone can feel free to join in anytime if they want.
Day Seven
Invasion of the Astro-Monster
Questions about Justin Verlander
1. How many times has Justin been an MLB All-Star?
2. What is Justin Verlander’s royal sounding nickname?
3. Which supermodel is Verlander married to?
Same, I'm mostly up on my Cerberus (with one decent guess getting me the trio) but I've never heard of this guy. I suppose from context he probably plays for the Astros, huh. Welp, wild guesses ahoy.
With the Popularity Contests migrating to a new subforum, I don't check Meatspace anymore, so I keep missing this. I'll try to remember to keep checking this thread. I don't even care if I'm behind, it's just fun to try and answer the questions.
Tomorrow. Because I don't know a whole lot about Verlander, and what I do know has nothing to do with these questions and a lot to do with the bitterness of a Mariners fan.
1. How many times has Justin been an MLB All-Star?
8
2. What is Justin Verlander’s royal sounding nickname?
The Monarch

Day Eight
Ebirah, Horror of the Deep
Questions About Shrimp
1. What part of the shrimp is its heart located in?
2. What does the pistol shrimp fire at its enemies to incapacitate or even kill them?
3. Which actor first used the phrase “put another shrimp on the barbie” for a tourism ad?
The reason I know some of this Greek monster stuff off the top of my head is from looking up FF derivations... Orthrus being what was corrupted into Ultros. Which means his pal Chupon, corrupted from Typhon, is actually his dad!
1. What part of the shrimp is its heart located in?
The Head
2. What does the pistol shrimp fire at its enemies to incapacitate or even kill them?
I was being simple when I said "sound" in my answer but people also say "pressure" and "Bubbles", which are also correct. The shrimp shoots bubbles that snap in a way that create a loud sound and the pressure is great enough to cause damage.
3. Which actor first used the phrase “put another shrimp on the barbie” for a tourism ad?
Everyone got this one.

Questions about Sol
1. What is the most common element in the sun?
2. What kind of star is our sun? (there’s more than one answer but please choose a scientific one. "Bad-ass" will not be allowed)
3. The photosphere and the chromosphere are two of the three layers of our sun. What is the third?
I was being simple when I said "sound" in my answer but people also say "pressure" and "Bubbles", which are also correct. The shrimp shoots bubbles that snap in a way that create a loud sound and the pressure is great enough to cause damage.
Well, the snap shut of its claw creates an extreme compression wave in the water, which also creates vapor pockets via cavitation - but sound *is* also a pressure wave, so yeah, all the same thing. Apparently it momentarily creates temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun. I don't know how shrimp ended up with some of the coolest gadgets in the entire animal kingdom (I"m almost surprised you didn't touch on the Mantis shrimp's completely insane eye setup as well) but here we are.
1. What is the most common element in the sun?
2. What kind of star is our sun? (there’s more than one answer but please choose a scientific one. "Bad-ass" will not be allowed)
I had like, a list, then I deleted it. Most people got one of the right answers, which included G-type, main sequence, yellow dwarf, etc. It is not a red giant... yet.
3. The photosphere and the chromosphere are two of the three layers of our sun. What is the third?
The answer I was looking for was Corona but I should have been specific to the outer layers, as apparently, I missed inner parts (and something called The transition zone). Most people got what is an acceptable answer and sorry for a lack of specificity, I just found a spot that said "THREE LAYERS!" in doing the research that overlooked some subtlies of it all. Unfortunately, the sun does not have an ionosphere.

Here are the weekend questions. ALL MONSTERS EDITION!
Day Ten
Destroy All Monsters
Question about literary monster deaths
1. In the original novel, Dracula is not killed neither with a stake through the heart NOR via sunlight. How is he killed?
2. After which character’s death does Frankenstein’s Monster decide to commit suicide?
3. Which monster is destroyed with the assistance of the Ritual of Chüd?
Day Eleven
All Monsters Attack
Questions about movie monster murders
1. In 1982’s the Thing, what device Dr. Copper using on the Thing before devours his arms
2. In the first A Nightmare on Elm Street, what now famous (and problematic) actor did Freddy Krueger kill by turning him into a geyser of blood?
3. What two word exclamation does the character Frank Cotton say as he is torn apart by the Cenobites in Hellraiser?
1. In the original novel, Dracula is not killed neither with a stake through the heart NOR via sunlight. How is he killed?
Stabbed with knives. A kukri knife to the neck and a bowie knife to the heart, though you don't have to be that specific. I read one take that says he was decapitated and the other that said throat stabbed so I would have accepted either.
2. After which character’s death does Frankenstein’s Monster decide to commit suicide?
His creator, Victor Frankenstein. Victor dies before Frankenstein the monster can enact his vengeance and with nothing more to live for, goes off to die in the frozen arctic.
3. Which monster is destroyed with the assistance of the Ritual of Chüd?
This is a tricky one: once again its Pennywise the Dancing Clown. The ritual didn't really show up in the TV mini-series and in the movie it failed but its a bit part of the book. I think it also involves a benevolent turtle god who is sort of Pennywise's opposite number.
Day Eleven
All Monsters Attack
Questions about movie monster murders
1. In 1982’s the Thing, what device Dr. Copper using on the Thing before devours his arms?
A defibrillator. Here's the classic scene. warning, as gory as I just described but its a great scene.
The scene is so great, not just for the visual effects but the directing and tension and the matter of fact way it happens that makes it so sudden and almost horrifically comedic
2. In the first A Nightmare on Elm Street, what now famous (and problematic) actor did Freddy Krueger kill by turning him into a geyser of blood?
Johnny Depp. As you might expect, its as bloody as it sounds but from an effects stand point is very impressive.
3. What two word exclamation does the character Frank Cotton say as he is torn apart by the Cenobites in Hellraiser?
"Jesus wept!" An expression I didn't hear before this movie. At first, I think there's was some cryptic meaning and didn't realize it was an expression that means "Holy crap!" Of course, using Jesus in the name makes it very loaded, of course.
Warning, all the stuff I described in the question.

Questions about Beijing
1. What is the world’s largest palace located in Beijing?
2. What is the literal translation of Beijing?
3. What language is based specifically on the Beijing dialect?
I uh, forgot my husband had a cinema minor. So 3/3 on those, whoooo.
I knew Dracula and Frankenstein (and glad I stood my ground for Frankenstein as my husband was pretty strongly insistent it wasn't Victor). I guess I really should get around to reading a Stephen King book someday.
Welp, I once again failed to log in over the weekend. Working with a 2/7 handicap at this game. On the other hand, I wouldn't have gotten most of the horror questions anyway.
Questions about Beijing

Questions about tokusatsu shows
1. Which tokusatsu superhero had a giant robot named Leopardon?
2. What long running franchise was originally intended as an adaptation of the manga series Skull Man?
3. Generally, which color is given to the leader of a team in the Super Sentai and Power Rangers series?
Oh man, Puffinstuff or however we spelled it was a wild guess, and Kraken was a "well, I know it's associated with this guy but haven't heard of it being an island". Whew.
Heh, I didn't get Pufnstuf but I've definitely had a few wild guesses sneak through, like the name of Beijing... pretty sure it had one of the same characters as Tokyo, so it was probably a some-direction-or-other capital...
