Yeah, we got that whole sealed demon thing to deal with, maybe later.

And then he stabs her and she dies. That's the end of the game, folks!

It's only a flesh wound! Your arm's off!

Video: Vs. Orin
Uh, there's probably some strategy here I could talk about, but really, who needs strategy when you've got Drill Special? You don't even have to time it well, you can't be interrupted. I just get in his face and drill it off. You do get a material for breaking his weapon, but we'll be able to get some from fishing later, and I'd rather not waste hours wearing down his drill.

Oh, and Aera gains a level and Dinah gains two and learns Quick Move. Hooray?

Yup!

She's got a Grandmaster rating in her Tact skill, can you tell?

Yes, well they did you a whole lot of good against a weapon with Drill Special. Maybe you should consider that next time you're at the forge.

Oh god he's gonna jump! It's like Ureksa all over again!

Apparently Orin stumbled upon the best way ever to fish for compliments.

Oh my! Maybe we should leave these two alone for a bit?

This is the point where all the onlookers facefault.

Wow, harsh.

So Orin provides an essential support role to our duo of world-saving adventuresses.

Good, he agrees! Now get back in the kitchen and make us a sandwich! The fate of the world depends on it!

Hush you.

We'll find out tomorrow that he's opened a soup kitchen and a youth center.

You slacker! Who cares if you've been beat up twice in less than 24 hours? Those sandwiches aren't going to make themselves!

Fine, but there better be sandwiches when we get back.

End of update. Are we seriously going to go back into the forest to find another fortress?

Never again will we forget to fight the bunny!

Hes still a little too strong for us right now, though. Gotta gain a couple levels.

MORE FORTRESS!

I'm a fan of the "Burn it to the ground" plan. Two fortresses is enough for any forest.

Anyone else a little scared right now? Either way, we're not going to get anywhere until we venture further into the forest, so we warp to the Water Fortress and head out the back door.

Except we have to stop to chat with someone again. Jesus this game is talky.

At least it's Lynn, we won't be bored.

And this plan doesn't seem dangerous or anything.

She's secretly a kung fu master! Or maybe a witch. Maybe she's a kung fu witch!

Aera: "We're not friends!"
Nina:

Then stop phasing through the floor! It really creeps me out!

Do we ever have conversations that aren't?

This is a good thing. It took us a day to find the Water Fortress when she was guiding us. It's only, like, a ten minute walk from the Wind Fortress!

Aww, shucks.

Yeah, but Lynn is hot, so it's okay.

The best thing to do when you're embarassed is to excuse yourself and leave.

Well, ok, but I doubt you'll find anything.

And then she leaves via the floor.

Spoooky~

The rest of us have to use the door. And behind the Fortress? More forest.

I make sure to hit every destructable object as I advance.

While Drill Special continues to make short work of, well, everything. I get a threefer here. You can see the crabs from the first game have made their return here.

Splitting wood makes star-shaped sparks! It's true, any lumberjack can tell you.

This Steel Spear is pretty good, too. It's no Drill Special, but it's a little boring to kill everything in one attack anyway.

And then Aera slips and falls into a hole. Nice going, you klutz!

Well that makes it okay! (You're still a klutz!)

The fire masks make their return as well. Also, we start running into recolors this chapter. Not pictured: recolors of spirits and slimes.

JESUS CHRIST IT'S A PUMPKIN GET IN THE CAR!
(It's just a regular-sized one who's puffed himself up to attack)

Aera hits level 13 off the GIANT DEATH PUMPKIN.

And you find the weirdest things just lying around in the grass. It is an egg... of mystery! OOOOH! AAAAAAH! Next stop on our tour is the rare and disturbing Egress! (Remember, no refunds!)

And the exit back to the surface is up those stairs, but it puts us back near the Water Fortress, so we have to go walk by that hole again, being EXTRA CAREFUL not to fall in again. (KLUTZ!)

In the meantime, Dinah learns a spell! But even as useful as attack magic is, we'll never actually burn through all our charges of Aqua Tornado, Storm Wind, and Chain Spark to have to resort to Burst Flare.

We come across another hole at this dead end here. Nowhere to go but down!

Doesn't grass usually need sunlight to grow?

Hey look, it's our old friend the kung fu lizardman! Turns out they're really hard to fight with a spear.

So naturally I fall back on Drill Special. Say hello to my little friend!

If we wanted to head back to the Water Fortress, we could take a shortcut down that mudslide. But we're not so we won't.

Instead we head forward up to the surface and a couple screens later we find the next teleporter!

These are important steps, don't skip them.

And the Blaze Ore makes the... uh.... Physical Damage Type weapon set.

Yay more Gale Ore!

I make the Steel Saber with it.

With our preparations done, it's time to siege the Thunder Fortress! You can see a little bit of the lightning there on the right.

That's ozone!

Not like we'll find anything standing around outside.

Huh, this fortress is actually occupied. Go figure. And he doesn't like company.

Really doesn't like company. You know they make signs? You could put one up outside, then you wouldn't have to threaten trespassers in person.

I have a better idea!

Hey, what we're doing is technically breaking and entering! We don't have a legal leg to stand on!

What? Make up your mind! Should we leave or should we stay?

And a 5% probability she's a pretty pretty princess.

They should have named him Ed. Ed Log.

And to do that, we have to prove Aera's not a princess! If I remember right, we need like 50 matresses and a pea.

Or you can just molest her control unit for a while? I don't think I ever heard of that method.

Borrowing? Borrowing what?

Hey, that's not cool!

He then pops it in his mouth. Seriously! TITANs eat RUBYs, Ed LogBruno eats mementos (the frefreshmaker)

Well if it's charging we'll probably get it back, right?

More importantly, which end is it going to come out of?

Holy crap he exploded Aera!

Hey this is just like what happened at the Seal of Goura!

Combat test? What comb--Video: Vs. Clock Knight
This fight sucks. Not because the boss is difficult or anything, but because Mono Shift sucks. You may notice a few things during the video: I can't summon Dinah, use items, or change weapons. Also, my DUR is constantly draining. Special attacks and properties on your weapon are not available during Mono Shift either. Instead, there's a unique special attack that's basically just a souped-up version of what Orin used against is earlier, but it costs way too much DUR for its damage. You're better off just doing what I do in the video and interrupt what attacks you can, and block his charge. Rinse and repeat. If you run out of DUR, it does in fact break your weapon. The good news is that doing so finally ends Mono Shift, as does running out of health. Since the latter gives you a health refill, it's much preferable.

Like any proper super(under)powered transformation, it takes its toll on Aera.

Yeah, the control system works fine, but can you make the actual transformation suck less?

Now we can Mono Shift at will! ...Hooray?
Well, not exactly at will. We'll have to come visit Ed LogBruno every time we use the Red Daemon Gem to recharge it.

Hey sweet, we have a robot now!

C'mon! You have a robot! Make it do something cool!

Or grill it for information, sure. He seems to know a lot about Fencing Edges, and the practitioners of such.

It's not that hard...

I know, right?

...Uh-huh... Moving on!

Oh my god, finally we make some damn progress on this quest. But I swear if he tells us it's in another fortress deeper in the woods, I'm going to snap and kill everyone.
Yes, even you.

Oh. Nevermind. How long is that gonna take, and what fetch quest are you going to send us on in the meantime?

Great! And you just used the energy you need to power it on charging the Red Daemon Gem, didn't you? And we're gonna have to find you some batteries or something. (Zip! Zowie! Shazam!)

THERE! That's the sound of the other shoe dropping! (The sound is Zip! Zowie! Shazam! in case you were curious.)

You are totally the worst robot ever. See, humans built robots to do the menial and boring tasks that humans don't want to do... like fetching crap. And now instead of finding one sword, we need to find four gems! This does not seem an improvement to me!

Then what the crap are you floating around in here for? Go get it, robo-slave!

Ok, someone's not getting flowers on his grave this year.

Wait, the Daemon Edge was being used as a battery up until Graham hid it? There's a WTF moment for you.

Seriously Ed, you're the worst robot ever.

And I suppose we'll be spending a day to track each of them down, they'll each be guarded by a boss, etc. etc?

First things first:

I DO feel refreshed! Thanks for noticing, game!

Hey you guys know what's hard? Getting a screenshot of something that's only on screen for a half a second. Like the little glimmer/spark thing on that box in front of Aera. Or rather, not on the box in front of Aera because it's only visible for a half-second!

(Zelda item-get music goes here)

Oh yeah, he gave it to Tatiana.

Well, it makes more sense than assuming they're a naturally occuring part of the elemental fortress ecosystem.

Some more select button dialog. Where the heck did that come from? It's so out of place I wonder if it's a translation error. Maybe EdBruno's the ugly one she's talking about?

Anyway, it's time to wrap up this update. Next time on Just What is an Edge Fencer, Anyway?: "You're not getting inside me again!" Also, nobody kisses anyone! Ever!

It's a well-known fact that ghosts (and half-ghosts) are adorable!

Anyway, on with the LP!

Oh man this is going to be interesting.

Just shove it in there somewhere!

He wants you to put it in him! Hehehehe...

Oops?

Nice job breaking him, hero!

Whoa, you actually killed him!

I dunno, you seemed pretty intent on forcing that gem in there.

GAH ZOMBIE ROBOT KILL IT KILL IT!

Oh. He survived.

Not one to leave a job unfinished, Aera resolves to finish killing Brunoinstalling the summonite.

But Bruno insists on finding another surgeon. Who do we know who's good with machines? Hmmmmmmmmm.....

Thank you, Dinah I certainly had forgotten that fact even though just talked with him earlier.

So now we have the only nonlinear section in the game! We have to go find more gems and find Orin, but we can do them in any order!

Too late! You volunteered!

We check to see if Orin's at home, but find Rocky and Tatiana on a datehanging out.

Rocky, no! I know you've got a crush on her, but it's not worth it!

Big help you are.

So we're gonna have you give us that gem, see? Otherwise, we'll have to break your legs.

GBWUH!? How did she know!?

"Yeah, I'm totally re-gifting your present. Sucker!"

Man, this is easy. Maybe we can try just asking Goura nicely not to kill us all?

Hooray! Two down, two to go!

What a playa.

Cook him some sweets! Food poisoning: the gift that keeps on giving!

A kiss? How scandalous!

It's so incredibly shocking!

Yeah, it's just a kiss. Geez.

Aera's just intimidated by forward women.

Ouch. Do you hear that? That is the sound of Rocky's heart breaking clean in two.

And he runs home to cry into his beermilk.

No! Bad Dinah! No dinner for you!

And Aera proves once again that there's no problem you can't just run away from. It's the best solution, and will never come back to bite you later!

Yeah, way to go. (Even though it was Dinah's fault)

Sure, change the subject.

Oh, right, he did say that didn't he? We'll head there after taking care of some business...

So hey guys I think I found an easy way to beat Rampage Rabbit. Finally the effort is commensurate with the reward!

Anyway, onwards with that pesky plot thing.

Jeez, what crawled up his butt and died?

Anyway, cue fade to black!

Yeah, it's great all around. Nobody almost died because of it!

You want stoked? She's gotta find two rocks that could be anywhere, without any help from a certain robot whose job it should be to do menial tasks for her!

Anyway, since there were gems in the thunder and wind fortress, it doesn't exactly take a genius to figure out that there's a third one in the water fortress. (Good thing, too, because we're a bit short on geniuses in this game...)

So naturally we expect to find one here.

Well isn't that convienent.

Ok, so you'll ask Tatiana for the one she got from Rocky as a precious, precious gift, but the one Lynn just finds lying around? Couldn't ask her for it, even to save the village.

Makes you wonder where they come from in the first place. Are they a natural mineral, or do they have to alchemized up by a summoner or what?

But it's a moot point anyway, because Lynn is super-nice.

...Or is she? DUN DUN DUNNNNN!

Answer: she is.

I'm not sure if there's any rhyme or reason behind the colors of the summonite gems. We got a grey one from the Thunder Fortress, the one Rocky found in the Wind Fortress was green, and this here Water Fortress one is pink...

Huh? Where'd that music come from? Is that... Barry Manilow?

Did you just dim the lights? Why does this fortress even have a dimmer switch installed?

Candles? You're telling me you just carry around scented candles with you everywhere you go?

Sure, it starts with a kiss...

Gee, if you're gonna ask like that, how could anyone say no?

Aera! Stop being rude and just kiss her!

Sure, we can go with that.

I think she's trying to imply something here, but I can't tell what.

Bye!

Seems like a good place to end the update. Next time on Just What is an Edge Fencer Anyway?: "There's another one in the forest beyond here." Also, no kissing (EVER)!

To Lynn's house, now!!! If the next update doesn't see Aira there, following a trail of rose petals from the door, I will be most perturbed.

I remember enjoying Lynn's.... advances... on Aira, but they are much more forward than I recall...

Oh, Lynn~! Are you ready for kissing times?

...That's funny, I don't see any rose petals. Nor candles, nor Barry Manilow.
