I'm late reading this but I wanted to mention something about Fox's father that I don't know if anyone else has seen.

It's either on the black hole stage or the easter egg stage with the planes (can't remember which) if you die and have to use a continue on the stage, Fox's father will appear on the continue screen with his older model arwing instead of Fox.

Also, turning down the music volume and Starfox 64 and playing SNES Starfox music instead, especially Corneria's stage, is awesome.

The first version of Great Commander is such a bastard. Its guns are way harder to hit than they should be.

As much as I prefer Star Fox 64 over this game, the music is admittedly much better. SF64 has a few great tracks but that's it; whereas almost every track in SF is amazing. It's a bit depressing to see what has happened to this franchise. I'm still holding on to the delusional hope that a new Star Fox game will be released for the Wii.

The second time I played through Route 3, I was high on the fumes of a perfect 100% run on all stages... and then the Great Commander froze on me. I have no idea what happened --I switched from cockpit view to external view just as the Arwing automatically circled back for a second or third strafing run on the turrets, and I was stuck in cockpit view anyway. And none of the plasma bolts could touch me, either, so the game was stuck in a perpetual circle-strafe around the Great Commander and I couldn't do anything about it.

Except reset

Also, I always found its Venom Surface form a much easier boss than the Phantron. Those kicks always manage to clip me, even when I know they're coming.

The exact same thing happened to me the very first time I fought the Commander. I think he ended up killing me somehow, so I didn't have to go through the whole game again. I've never been able to recreate it.

I'm not sure if this was said before, but for Sector X and Z there is a cheap way to get through the sections where you have to dodge all the beams coming in from the sides. If you jam down the brake the beams will fly in front of you, and the brake just barely recharges fast enough to keep you safe the whole way through.
