Default Diary of a Mute Hero (Chrono Cross)

Serge's Journal - First Entry

Weird dream last night. I was in a tower surrounded by dragon statues. I had two companions - a loudmouthed girl who dressed like jailbait, and a goofy-looking guy wearing the shortest shorts in the world. They both talked funny, and I think the girl was insane.

We were being chased by a big gold robot. Goofy-looking guy somehow swam in mid-air, then dove headfirst into the robot.

I see no reason why this shouldn't be considered a valid martial art.

I used magic to finish off the robot - much better magic than I have in real life! It was pretty cool.

We found a purple obelisk, which we turned off somehow. This activated an elevator. Hey, don't ask me. Dreams don't have to make sense.

The elevator beamed us right through the ceiling.

Default Exciting!

But I don't remember any of this... God, so long ago! God, such a poor memory!

Looking towards getting refreshed on what happened in this game

First Entry - Continued

Jailbait girl was really obnoxious. Then I killed her. I think. The dream got kind of hazy and weird at that point. And it doesn't seem like the kind of thing I'd do. But then, she was pretty annoying.

Anyways, it was about then that I woke up. Weird, huh?

Well, I'll write more later. I just wanted to get this down before I forgot about it.

Default Question

How are you running this Sanagi? I see it's on a Mac but I didn't know there was ANY decent PSX emulation yet...

I love Chrono Cross. Do you think you could find a way to directly link to the images instead of using thumbnails? I think it's a lot better that way.

I humbly request that you use Leah as often as possible because she is Ayla Jr. and therefore rocks.

PCSX runs the game fine, though it's laggy at times. I haven't had any trouble at all so far.

As you may have noticed, though, it lacks a screengrab feature so I'm using OSX's built-in ability(Command-Shift-4, then spacebar) to take a picture of any window.

By the way, you can click on any of the thumbnails to see the full-sized picture.

I could, but the images are kinda big, and honestly the PSX's 3D graphics don't look that good closeup. I also liked the layout better with thumbnails, since it conveys more information in a smaller space.

Off topic but this is a good place to ask, what windows Emulators are there out there that work?

and then we'll get right back to enjoying CC

Opening a new tab to see each image without crippling eyestrain breaks the flow of the LP. Just resize them to about fifty percent of their original size, then post them directly.

For Windows? pSX is fairly amazing. I'm not sure how well it will run Chrono Cross though.

ePSXe(I think that's what it was called) worked well for me for the little bit of time I didn't have my PS1. It was kind of a bitch to do the initial configuration with all the plug-ins and crap, though.

pSX is fantastic. Runs CC - and virtually every other Playstation game - flawlessly. Also has a linux port. No plugins or other bullshit configuration. Maybe have to tweak sound latency but that's two sliders and that's all.

I agree that these thumbnails are a bit small. I'll try something different with the next entry. I'm looking at different image hosting sites because imageshack has been sucking lately, but no one else seems to have good resize options.

I used ePSX when I imported DQ4 but that's the only game I've played on it. It ran pretty great though.

Otherwise I just use my A/V-in-USB-thing-that-I-don't-know-what-it-is-technically-called and play the game in my real live PS2.

Use photobucket. You can upload in bulk and it's reliable for the most part. I think their resizing option's pretty good as well.

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to get better screencaps, because right now the .jpgs are not working for me. But other than that is amazing.

And Sanagi, you need to speed things up so we can get to Mojo. Then you can take all the time you want.

Don't they tend to delete images for a variety of arcane reasons? That's all I ever hear about them.

Fan clubs are for 13 year old girls. I am a member of the Society in Service of His Lordship Lucky Dan, which is sometimes the Society in Service of His Lordship Mojoy-Om.

Mmm, Chrono Cross. I'm just now listening to an insane man's podcast about the music of it. Looking forward to more of it!

And yeah, if I didn't know how much Jeremy hates trying to dredge up dead projects I'd be totally on board with reviving the Lucky Dan fan club.

Serge's Journal - Second Entry

Contrary to what you might think, it's not so great being a mute hero. I hear what people say behind my back. Get a real job, they say. Get a personality, they say. Well, it just so happens that I have a rich inner life, and if they think fighting monsters is so easy, why don't they try it sometime?

Anyway. Rant over. On with the day... Which was very strange. I'm not sure what to make of it, really. I'm still waiting for someone to tell me it was all an elaborate joke.

Mom woke me up and reminded me that I was supposed to meet Leena. At least Leena didn't come wake me up herself. We mute heroes get that treatment from our girlfriends a lot.

My mom's name is Marge, but if it's like my name, it should be pronounced "Mar-Gay." I know, that confuses even me.

I talked to Leena. She can be weirdly overenthusiastic sometimes. But those huge green eyes are so... hypnotic... Um... What was I saying? Oh yeah, she wanted some Komodo scales for a necklace, so I agreed to get some from Lizard Rock.

First though, I checked out my hometown, Aruni. It's a nice little village. I visited Belcha's kitchen, and a waitress there read me her poetry. I also won a staring contest with a barrel.

Poshul. The fact that this animal has the power of speech and I don't must surely be proof that God hates me. Still, I needed some help hunting komodos so I bribed... it... with a heckran bone.

Poshul frightens me.

2nd entry - continued

I talked with the fisherman whose name I don't know. He wondered what his life would be like if he had made different choices. Then, as compensation for wasting so much of my time, he gave me a shark-scale amulet. I guess it was worth it. I just wish more people would value my time that appropriately.

And I stole a magic spell from the old lady - come to think of it, I probably shouldn't write that down.

Poshul and I went to Lizard Rock and hunted some komodos. We also had to fight some Beach Bums.

After killing a few komodos, the komodo mama came out to play. It was a lot tougher than its babies, but we handled it. I guess Poshul isn't that bad.

Next, it's on to Opassa Beach to meet Leena!

It was 3-4 playthroughs before I ever picked Poshul up that early.
