Chapter 8: Slow news day
Sorry for the delays folks - holidays and all that. That said, unfortunately it's not a real exciting update this time around. It gets better, I promise!
Last time, everybody wanted to go for accountancy falcons and who am I to deny the people: We learn some basic math, and basic falcon care for our feathered friends. Anyway, let's see what exciting intrigue is happening around the palace today! As you are walking up the stairs, a maid comes running down holding a towering pile of linen. Oh. That was kind of anticlimactic. Still, all that stick poking from earlier seems to be paying off. I'm still pushing towards a Yielding mood, so let's take in another court session and see how our mood is shaping up. Hrm. Still a little wonky and we're still more depressed than anything else. I'll have to work on that. Since nothing really changed this time around, I went ahead and trained up another week using the same skill plan. Interest(ing)! And we officially have a falcon buddy! I'm gonna call you Hawky! After all that, we finally have a royal matter to deal with. Joslyn: Remember, the treasury is no unlimited. If you choose to invest, you will have less money to work with later. Man: Your Royal Highness, I have a plan to print books using metal letters which can be moved and reused. I need to borrow 875 lassi to assemble the metal and factory to mold and cast the type. With this system, we will be able to create new books in a fraction of the time it takes now, and make copies to send all over the world. Johannes Gutenberg just walked into our throne room and asked for funding! This one's a no brainer right? Elodie: We are not interested. Urg. Foiled by our lack of economics. Why did no one speak up about the importance of economics! This is one of the major points in favor of training econ up right from the start of the game. It's not very mood dependent, so none of the early game events will throw you off your training track, and you can hit this event and get into the vault almost as soon as you talk to Julianna. Anyway, after turning down funding for the greatest invention of the 13th century, I decide to stabilize our mood a little by playing with toys instead of going to court again and getting even more depressed. Ok, that stabilized us pretty well and we can go yielding next training period. The larger question is what do we train next? We're still depressed, so none of our bonuses have changed, but we've pretty much maxed out on falcons until we get some skill with dogs and horses. Similarly, if we want to continue accounting, we're going to need some trade and production skills soon. Unfortunately, we already missed our big chance there with the printing press event. What are your thoughts Talking Time? |

You never know, it just might.
Alternatively: No, but our dog, monkey horse, and pheasant falcon could probably do it. |

This. Gotta bandage ourselves up after mathing our way through the vault door.

Chapter 9: Trouble Brewing
After way too much delay, we're back and it's time to learn about dogs and medicine!
We meet the royal puppies, and learn the importance of washing our hands. After classes, we have a visitor and it's a new player on the board. Banion here is duke of one of the southern areas of the kingdom and as you can tell by his portrait, a bit of a smug jerk. Banion: However, I must call for you aid. The Ixionite occupation of the county of Imbrium has gone on for too long. Now is the time to push back. Welp. Our lack of foreign affairs bites us in the ass again. And since we have absolutely no military training, Elodie automatically calls out the diplomatic core. If we had any training from the military category here, we'd get the option to send in the troops to liberate the province. Elodie: There must be a peaceful way to settle this. I will send for diplomats from Ixion and try to come to some arrangement. Banion: Thank you, Your Highness (+1 Yielding) Your Highness, if I may ask... That necklace you're wearing. Where did it come from? Elodie: It was a gift from the Duke of Sedna. Banion: Then, you have made arrangements with him? (court manners failed) Elodie: Um... What sort of arrangements? Banion: Your Highness, that is a courting gift. The man wishes to gain your hand in marriage. Elodie: Oh. I didn't realise. Yup, just by accepting that neckace from a few updates ago, we accidentally promised ourselves to a dude we've never even met before. Princessing is complicated sometimes most times all the times. I send us for a walk in the garden after that to calm our nerves and at last we're in a yielding mood. Possibly not the best state for receiving diplomats from an invading nation, but really good for training the royal demeanor category including the all important presence stat that will get us into the royal vault and get our magical mcguffin. So what should we train to prepare for the diplomatic meeting next time? Foreign affairs? History? Forget about it and work presence to get into the vault? I'll explain the ins and outs of the Ixion conflict next time, but going in blind is usually how you'll experience it in game for the first time. |

And thus do we learn why rulers don't usually spend their time learning about birds and dogs.
Let's get some Diplomacy under out belt so the Ixionite diplomats don't make fools of us. And where's my magic dammit?! These clods aren't going to turn themselves into toads! |

I actually won a game of this a month or so ago! But there are other choices I'd like to try on another playthrough. |

That's one of the reasons I really like this game. There are a ton of different paths through the game depending on what you train and what decisions you make.

Yeah, I saw the update on Steam and went "Why is LLTQ updating? It's not on the Steam Cloud..." and then I was pleasantly surprised!
A few of the new events seem to be geared toward being a more diplomatically-oriented magic user, rather than being the Lich Queen from Hell as the Lumen path pretty much always is now. So that is enough to pique my interest by itself. Let's train Presence and Novan History while we have the chance to work on some actual practical Queenly life skills. |

So I ended up getting the game, and now that I've played it and have a better idea about what's going on I would like to revise my vote:

Note that the humble bundle is still going on for a couple more days, and Long Live the Queen isn't part of the premium package so you can get it for as little as $1.
