Default Haggling

Guybrush wants the ship, Stan wants to sell the ship, Stan knows Guybrush wants to buy it. All that's left is settling on a price. Easy right?

Right?

I just said this Stan...

Do we have to?

Not really.

Of course there is.

Please sell me this ship before I kill myself.

In what I can only imagine is prep for hell Guybrush is still trying to negotiate for the price of the ship.

WHAT?!

Yes! You did! Please don't make me do this all over again?

Well, a hundred years ago there was some discussion about Guybrush purchasing this ship. But, I don't know now.

Not good. Really bad actually.

You tell him Guybrush! Walk away!

Default Down to Brass Tacks

Guybrush does need a ship and Stan is the only one selling them, maybe we can get him to come down some.

Making Stan give you offers is essential to completing this puzzle, by the way...

That's closer to what Guybrush can afford. Now we can counter

Not a penny more. Mostly because we don't have anymore pennies than that.

Default Captain of the Sea Monkey

And, finally, with that Guybrush is the owner of a fine, partially sunk, ship. AND the Captain of a crew of two! We just need to find one more!

Confession: When I first played this game I kept coming back here once I'd found all the crew and wondering why I couldn't board the ship and get on with the narrative and the game. Turns out when Stan says dock he means the same place where Le Chuck tried to drown Threepwood. Anyway, back to Stan:

Where are we going to find that last crewmember? On the way out Guybrush tries the grog machine:

But nothing... Anyway, next time I'll scour the island looking for the last member of the crew before I have a "doh!" moment!

TO-DO

-confront LeChuck
[srike]- Become a Pirate[/strike]
- get a ship
- get a crew (1 more)
- Kiss the Governor.
- Go to Monkey Island

The last crew member is Meathook, up in the northeast part of the island.

Please show off the conversation where you're mean to him right from the start.

The first time I played, I never got into the extras. Turns out you can still get the price low enough if you try hard enough! Nowadays, I try to get it as cheaply as possible. I know I've gotten it for 4K but I don't know if I've done cheaper than that. The big lever you were missing was making him your smaller offers.

We left Guybrush last time with 2/3 of a complete crew and only one place to possible find the remaining member:

Threepwood heads there now.

"But, how do I get across?"

Clicking to use the cable doesn't get us any farther. What about that rubber chicken?

That did it! Only one place to go to. That dingy house! When do things get "fabulous?"

With our ship here all we have to do now is wait for Threepwood's fearless and loyal crew to arrive:

It never is Guybrush, it never is! Next time:

All right! Guybrush has finally left Melee Island, on his very own bought too! With his crew he is on the way to Monkey Island and the rescue of the beautiful Governor Marley! Let's join them:

This can't be good...

I've got a feeling that if Guybrush wants to rescue Governor Marley, or even get to Monkey Island he is going to have to do everything himself.

Default Soft Mutiny

The ship isn't the big of a space there's this main deck, above it the crow's nest, the aft is mostly made up of the Captain's cabin, below the main deck are the crew quarters and galley, and below those is the cargo hold. Threepwood makes his way back to his cabin:

That goes without saying Guybrush. Let's explore:

Next, the desk:

Let's read it!

Okay, that's vague. Anything else in this place? Some more looking around reveals a locked armoire, an empty chest behind the steps and the inkwell and feather pen. Guybrush nabs those last two. With that he goes back outside and up to the crow's nest:

A true pirate steals even from themselves! Nothing else to do or see from up here so it's down, down, down we go.

The kitchen! I mean the galley! There any food around here?

So true! Captain Crunch, if you didn't leave it to soak up milk for a couple of minutes, tore your mouth up! Nothing much else in the kitchen. Down again!

There are a couple of things in here worth having:

Rope? Check. Gunpowder? Check. Fine Wine? CHECK! And with that the ship has been explored. Did we miss anything?

Oh yeah, that. Well, if there is nothing else to eat...

I love prizes! What'd we get Threepwood?

Only one locked thing on this ship...

Let's open it!

The longer I play the less I feel that "the pirate's life" is for me.

Directions? Great! I was running out of ideas.

*reads list*

Mint leaves? Live chicken? Monkey blood?! This is a recipe! And it sounds like it makes something that tastes awful.

What else is there though?

Default I mean it probably tastes better than something Sandra Lee would make...

With the recipe, I mean directions to Monkey Island, in hand Guybrush returns to the galley:

"Close enough!"

"Who's going to be able to tell the difference between a rubber chicken and a real one?"

"I don't KNOW that it doesn't come from a squid"

"Sure, why not."

"Oh hey! An ingredient I actually have!"

"Monkey blood? Maybe?"

"Why not?"

"That means it worked, right? I hope?"

I guess things could be worse...

And then good things happen?

Find out next week!

TO-DO

- reform mutinous crew
- Go to Monkey Island
- confront LeChuck
- Kiss the Governor.

Gunpowder and fine wine just abandoned on the ship? Isn't that like finding money in the glove compartment of a recently purchased used car?

I'm disappointed in Stan for not stripping the ship of everything of use or value and trying to sell it back.

regardless of what the game says I don't know if anything that can substitute as monkey blood in a magical spell can be defined as "fine" wine.

It's not "fine" as in exceptional. It's "fine" as in "hasn't actually turned to vinegar yet."

"Is that wine off?"

"No, it's fine."

Great LP of a great game.
I enjoy the thought of point-and-click adventures, but when I play them I soon go to gamefaqs. So an LP is probably the best way for me to experience them. Keep up the good work.

Default Are We There Yet?

We left Guybrush Threepwood passed out in the galley of his near derelict ship after doing some creative cooking. I guess we should check in on him...

You look awful. But that could just be the resolution... Guybrush heads up to the deck:

Yes, that does appear to be an island and seeing as the recipe we followed was for Monkey Island I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that's it off our port.

Guybrush confirms it for us and then tries to get his crew excited:

Worst crew ever.

I try to get Guybrush to swim:

And there doesn't appear to be a dingy anywhere abouts... How are we going to get Guybrush over to the island? Wait, wait, wait!

I think I've got an idea. First we need some gunpowder:

Then some fire:

(that's the matchbook we got)

and now:

That's perfect. Just perfect! Now we just need to get Guybrush a helmet!

Well, I hope Threepwood got into the cannon before it blew up in his face...

Default Coming ashore!

Oh boy, the look on Guybrush's face!

That name sounds familiar... (see the journal entries in the previous update)

Everyone is so helpful on this island! Finally Threepwood gets his head out of the sand:

I think that means its ours and we can take it back to the ship if we ever find some oars...

"Cannibals? Cannibals!"

Cannibals, Guybrush.

We'll figure out how to deal with all of that next week. In the mean time let's check out the To-do List, which just so happens to have new items on it!

TO-DO

- reform mutinous crew
- Talk to Toothrot
- Explore Monkey Island
- Find oars to get off island
- Avoid Cannibals
- Go to Monkey Island
- confront LeChuck
- Kiss the Governor

I think my computer troubles are behind me (fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc., etc.) I've also re-installed Monkey Island and have re-played the game back to where I was before.

So, barring some new disaster this should resume this weekend.

Thanks for your patience.
