So well...how do I start this?

Hello everybody. My username is SabreKing (as can be obviously seen) and I've been a huge fan of this forum. I've been reading this board's LP's for a year or two now with the first one I remember reading was Tanto's Fire Emblem 7 LP after finding a link to it on TVTropes.

After finally deciding to sign up and do an LP for all of you I had to decide what game I was going to LP. Considering that you guys have done every Fire Emblem game for the GBA I decided to save the Fire Emblem series for FAR into the future. I decided after that realization to cover something close to me and my childhood. Since Pokemon has also been covered, the Yu-Gi-Oh games are slow and sort of dull to LP and the Power Rangers games are complete shit I decided to cover another mons series I remember fondly.

Well enough talking let's get the show on the road!



This ladies and gentlemen is Digimon World Dusk. This game was actually part of a set of two games in a very Pokemon-esque fashion but I'll cover that point later.

So now I got to ask the simple questions.



First off our gender and our name. Canonically this game's protaganist is a female named Sayo but don't let that sway your votes.

Secondly I must ask which Digimon pack you wish me to start with. I must note that whatever pack you choose I will carry in some form during the entire LP.



First off we have the Balance Pack. As can be seen the unique features are balanced stats as well as the Clockmon line early but this set also is one of the only sets to have both an Ultimate and a Champion (I'll explain more what that means once the LP begins).



Next we have the Attack Pack. This pack is actually my favorite for reasons that I'm sure are mostly obvious. This set is also the easiest way to get a SkullGreymon which would lead to me getting my favorite Digimon come the endgame.



Third we have the Defense Pack. This pack is also one of my favorites due to the Kurisarimon and is the other pack to contain both an Ultimate and a Champion.


Last we have the pack I personally am betting on you guys to give me. The Pretty Pack. This pack is this game's more quirky pack and is meant to be more amusing and presumably the challenging pack.

So there you have it. Please respond to this thread with a name, gender and digimon pack, each of your decisions for which should be put in bold.

Girl named Nepeta because that's what that cat-hat makes me think of.

Balanced Pack because Clockmon looks like a hilarious amount of overkill. He's got a clamp, some kind of arm-gun, and a mallet too. Awesome.

Girl named Melody for our protagonist, and the Attack Pack because SkullGreymon is awesome.

A Boy named Sue for our protagonist. I'm leaning towards Attack Pack (despite knowing virtually nothing about Digimon) because it tends to be more fun to see people LP their favorites.

OK I hate to say this out loud as the creator of this LP but...I need to cast my own vote.

I want to be a Girl named Nepeta partially because I noticed the cat-hat.

And because we're playing Nepeta...I am voting for the Pretty Pack.

It lets you get Pandamon digimon more quickly!

Yeah I don't even know why the translation team allowed this horrible grammar. The rest of the grammar isn't even that bad...it's translated decently but then there's that.

I think I'm going to have to cast my vote for Pretty Pack. It's got to be secretly super powerful, right?

Well it's Wednesday and I'll take the photos soon but I feel like I must give an update first.

No matter what our character is going to be a girl with a 3-1 split. However I would like both Mogri and Beowulf as well as any new readers to give their own decision for a name. And of course the pack decision is still split 2-2-1 for Pretty, Attack and Balance.

Hmm... I guess I vote uh... well you see... I don't know much about digimon, but I guess I will vote for the pretty pack. I like pretty things I guess.

If we're going with a girl, then sure, I can get behind Nepeta.

I wanted to go with Defence, but as that seems unlikely to win, go with Attack because I don't want Pretty to win.

But seriously, I have no good name ideas and don't really care what our lady/man gets named.

I'll change my vote for packs to the Attack Pack, because apparently no one else shares my interest in Clockmon.

Assuming it's a typo and not a joke flying over my head, would it be possible to change "was ran" in the title to "were run"? It bugs me a little.

I'll get a Clockmon just for you Gerad. Trust me I think you'll like what it becomes.

But yes can someone please edit my grammar? I will admit that I'm not that good at grammar.

:33 Hello everyone! I’m Nepeta Lejion otherwise known as arsenicCatnip (or ac for short) and I want to tell you all about the start of my new adventure! So ac was sorta of getting bored with Sgrub and trolling those humans…so well ac thought it would be purrfect to play a different game for a bit! So ac looked for other games here in Alternia and she saw something called Digimon World. It didn’t get that many reviews here and most of the ones that ac did read were really mean. But ac decided that it can’t be too bad! So ac decided to sign up and skipped all that boring text you see when you install a game, because seriously who even reads that?!



:33 So after the title screen (which had a bunny!) ac had to put in her name. However for some reason it only wanted five letters! ac was confused about this and didn’t know how to make her name shorter! So she named herself Nepet because…it sounds cute :33. Part of ac wonders if Karkat would ever call her that… ac’s getting off topic though! So ac pressed Enter and suddenly she felt like she was in a vacuum! Her computer pulled her in deeper and deeper until suddenly ac was in the computer! I know it sounds crazy but ac isn’t lying! ac suddenly felt like she was on solid ground and felt something very odd…her tail was gone! ac opened her eyes and saw that she was human as she looked over herself. ac reached for her head but felt her cat hat! ac then looked up to see where she was only to find scary monsters! There was some sort of skeletal, dinosaur thing with a missile, a black werewolf…and the bunny! However as ac tried to scoot away they got closer and the bunny nuzzled her cheeks. It seems that these weird monsters were my lusii (lususus?) and were here to keep me safe! ac decided that even though she could ask someone what they are that she’ll just name them instead!



(Yeah I know she probably doesn’t even know Bec exists but I just felt like I had to. And NOW ladies and gents the plot is about to start and I can stop making up fanon.)

:33 So ac’s lusii led her to some sort of dark, purple city. After asking around for a little bit they said that these lusii are called Digimon and that ac's a “Tamer”. Apparently Tamers here work for some place called Night Crow so she went over to sign up! Apparently this game only allows ac to write in Nepet there too so everyone’s going to call ac Nepet! And they’re all humans ugh. So a few days later they called her over and said that “normal rank” Tamers in Night Crow are going somewhere with the Chief. So I went in with all these other humans who she's met over the last few days and Chief Julia was there…to talk. Lots and lots of talking.



Julia: Night Crow cannot allow Light Fang to get the upper hand! Before the Normal Tournament tomorrow, I want all of you to practice. I’ve talked to the Digimon in Thriller Ruins to not interfere with the practices. So practice freely.

ChaosGallantmon: As Julia said, we cannot let Light Fang defeat Night Crow in the tournament tomorrow no matter what! Don’t forget that! Now get into groups of three and begin training!



Newton: farther in!
(yes the next screen was literally 2 words. I don’t know why they didn’t try to adjust the script a bit better.)

:33 But…I told them my name’s Nepeta…

Dorothy: Why Newton? This spot is fine. Nepet, don’t you agree? Hey?

:33 Mmm nice warm milk…what?! What?! I’m listening!

(I’m presuming Dorothy’s stating that we fell asleep from boredom from all this talking that means nothing. Why does Light Fang and Night Crow not like each other? I don’t know. How did these guys enter the game? I don’t know. How did she convince every species here to leave us alone? I don’t know.)

Newton: No! It’s not good enough! We’re training secretly to beat Light Fang!

Dorothy: Fine! Let’s go Nepet.



Newton: farther! We should train at the farthest spot!

(Transition to a very similar looking screen)

Newton: Maybe we should go in farther

:33 ac looked over and saw that the only place to go was blocked by some guy with bright red hair! He looked kind of angry actually…

Newton: Raigo the Gold Tamer is there. I guess this is as far as we can go. Ok, let’s practice here! Nepet, Dorothy!

(after this line Dorothy tries to give a tutorial. Let me summarize her tutorial. “Use the attack tab to attack your opponent! Make sure to keep an eye on your MP!” Thanks game. Really needed to know that)



(OK while the game will spend a few more battles explaining everything let me get this all covered. First the top screen. The left of the top screen is basically the order the fight will go in after this current turn. It’s very Megami Tensei-esque and will adjust depending on how far the health and MP bars are or if you have a status effect or in the best case scenario you used an attack that causes the opponent hit to lose a turn. On the right is both your information on your current party as well as showing the battle field. As can be seen the battle field is split into 5 zones, represented in game by 5 equally sized bars. Attacks in the game can range from attacking one zone, to hitting 3 zones but skipping the second and fourth or even very rarely hitting all five zones. Utilizing where these attacks hit will be a life-saver later. On the bottom screen you have the current Digimon attacking shown as well as five options. Attack is simple. It lets you choose between all the attacks your Digimon has which after you decide you decide what zone to attack if it’s not one that’s fixed. Move lets you either move your three Digimon among the five zones or swap some of those Digimon with Digimon that are on the “bench” so to say. Currently Nepeta has nobody on the bench. Item lets you use a healing item. You can either heal HP or you can heal MP and you must decide if you want a healing item that affects multiple zones or one zone and how much HP or MP you want healed. Defend uses that Digimon’s turn to hunker down and doubling your defense. Flee is like using Escape in a Pokemon game. It may succeed and it may not. I do not know if Speed matters in this game though.)

:33 ac was very confused when all Newton used was this electric, beetly plug-thing. It didn’t look very strong and Bec almost looked ready to eat it.

(yeah this fight isn’t even fair. So let’s skip to the end)



(As the bottom screen shows each Digimon is put in some sort of type. As you defeat a Digimon of that type all 3 of the Digimon get that EXP and they now all have 41 EXP in the machine category. My favorite thing here is that all of the digimon get all of the EXP unlike Pokemon where it would have been split into thirds.)



“:33 ac is about to say thanks to Newton but Dorothy interrupts her!”

Dorothy: Newton you’re giving your Digimon weak direction!

Newton: No I’m not! My strategy is perfect!

Dorothy: I guess you weren’t listening to a thing I said. Anyway, now it’s my turn. Newton, step back! Nepet now it’s my turn!

:33 ac was about to object and remind them that her name was Nepeta but before that could happen a big earthquake hit! ac and the other humans were really surprised!

Newton: What was…

Dorothy: that?

:33 Suddenly weird goblin things dropped in front of ac! She didn’t know how to react. It had a weird face and was supposed to be scary but…ac wasn’t scared.

Vilemon: I’m gonna… kill them…



:33 ac looked at Newton very confused. Because she was very, very sure the goblin didn’t say that.

(What is with the question mark?)

Newton: What’s with this Vilemon?!

(another fight and tutorial!)

Newton: Ouch! I twisted my leg…

(How?! I did the battle AND we make the Digimon fight for us)

Dorothy: That was dumb. You were rushing…Can you report this to chief Julia? Nepet…I’ll stay with this idiot and wait here…I can’t leave the injured behind.

Newton: Hey stop calling me idiot and stuff…

Dorothy: The injured should keep quiet! Nepet, will you go for us?

Newton: Sorry Nepet. Thanks.



(So this is the stat screen for each Digimon. I’m using Skully here as an example. The personality is not something I know what it does. Attacker says which stats will go up more on average and in Skully’s case it’s attack and spirit and attributes say what type of attack will do more or less damage against it Most of the stats are self-explanatory except Spirit and Aptitude. Spirit seems to determine something about max attack and defense but I’d love for a more in-depth explanation and aptitude determines that Digimon’s current level. Degenerating or Digivolving to a new level for the first time is how to raise that. I’ll explain those terms next time.)

:33 When ac walked into the next area she saw some of those other humans being attacked too!



Gutts (the other boy) : This doesn’t look good! Help, someone!

:33 Then the blond girl said that they should do their best…and then asked me for help as soon as I walked in. People in this world are weird. So ac beat these goblins too!

Punch: Nepet thanks…

Barone (the blond girl): That was scary…it just started attacking.

Gutts: Nepet I would have taken care of them if you hadn’t come.

Punch: Hey, you got saved. Just say thanks.

Gutts: Yeah, sorry Nepet. Thanks. Now, we need to report this immediately.

Barone: Nepet, please! Go report this to Chief Julia right away!


Julia: you look bored

ChaosGallantmon: I didn’t even break a sweat. But why? The Vilemon appeared as if they were being controlled by something.

Julia: Yes ChaosGallantmon…but who…I wonder if the others are alright? I hope they’re not hurt.



(That red thing in the cloak giggles manically and then teleports away)

ChaosGallantmon: Darn! Got away…Who was that?



:33 We all were summoned to meet up with Julia after we all beat those Vilemon. ac didn’t pay much attention though. It’s just more talking…

Raigo: Why did the Vilemon attack us? They looked like they were being controlled by someone.

Julia: I don’t know. But we won’t be afraid. We’re the ultimate Tamer team…Night Crow!

ChaosGallantmon: Right! Night Crow! Fear nothing! We’re counting on you guys at the Normal Tournament tomorrow! Show our strength to Light Fang!

Julia: Let’s get back to DarkmoonCITY. Let’s get some rest for tomorrow.

(So now we get to where roughly Dawn starts. For Dawn the game as a whole starts at the Normal Tournament. Sayo (the canonical name for Nepet here) has already won the first block of the tournament and Newton is about to win the second block immediately stating that Night Crow wins the Normal Tournament. The Dawn protagonist then transports to the stadium apparently late as always and he rushes in to the waiting room. Newton then beats his opponent and you fight Newton followed by two more Night Crow members to win the second block for Light Fang. I’ll tell you when the plots recoincide.)



Newton: Come on you’re doing so well… You’re the winner of Group A of the Normal Tournament. Don’t waste it. Nepet, let’s hurry!



(This shot is important for two reasons. First off there’s our teleportation effect in the bottom screen. Secondly on the top of the screen you can see Koh aka the canonical Dawn protagonist.)

Newton: What are you doing?! Nepet you’re late! The Group B Tournament has already started! You’re always this way! Really Nepet…Take being a Night Crow more seriously! The Light Fang will laugh at you!

(transition to the center room or something)

Newton: Good. Group B’s not over yet. Gutts! You better win no matter what! Take that Light Fang Koh and crush him! Go Mushroomon! You can win! We don’t have time for this…Let’s go to the waiting room!



Julia: Nepet, you made it…You’re up next! Good luck!

(Yeah Koh won Group B. So it’s time for the finals…well after more talking.)

ChaosGallantmon: We Night Crow won Group A of the Normal Tournament! Good job, Nepet! But Group B lost to Light Fang…They fight pretty well! Keep your guard up Nepet! Victory in the Normal Tournament, belongs to Night Crow!

:33 Suddenly I heard some sort of noise and Gutts walked out looking sort of ashamed of himself.

Gutts: Sorry everyone. Darn! If Mushroomon would have moved just a bit more…

Punch: That’s right! Your Digimon always has that problem!

Barone: Punch, don’t be so hard on Gutts…

Dorothy: Yeah, Punch! You lost too! You guys are such buddies to lose to the same opponent!

Julia: Nepet, you can win if you fight carefully.

ChaosGallantmon: Just believe in yourself and give it your all. Then I’m sure you’ll be able to win!

:33 ac decided to talk to Newton and wanted to see how everybody is doing.

Newton: Hey, Nepet. How come I can’t win? I’m raising Digimon well, too.

:33 ac changed her mind because she doesn’t like whining.

(After the Dawn fights you leave the waiting room and walk into almost this exact conversation.)



Julia: This is Nepet of Night Crow who will be in the finals.

ChaosGallantmon: Nepet is still a Normal Tamer but has great potential and is a good Tamer. I’m sure you could tell if you saw the match.

(Um…almost game. Matches. The way this tournament works is that you got to beat three Tamers in a row. As a matter of fact Newton won 2 of his three matches in Group B before Koh came in.)

Glare: Yes I did see your match. You’re an impressive Tamer.

Ophanimon: Yes…Nepet. We’re looking forward to your growth…but Koh of Light Fang also has great potential.


(Speak of the devil…)

Koh: Light Fang. The Group B champion, and your opponent.

Glare: Well, the next match is the final match of the Normal Tournament. I look forward to a good battle.

Julia: Fight to the best of your ability as a proud Tamer.

Koh: I will Chief Glare, Chief Julia! I’ll do my best!

:33 After that we all saluted each other and then Koh and his chief walked away. ac thinks this will be fun!

Julia: Be careful! Koh is strong.

ChaosGallantmon: When you’re ready, come to the waiting room.

So ac walked through this room, deciding to not talk to anyone because she didn’t want to be late! Some of the other humans tried to talk to ac but she ignored them! She went on the teleporter and came out in the stadium!

Newton: Go give it your all!

Raigo: Let’s get some momentum with a win in the Normal Tournament, and Night Crow will win the Bronze Tournament tomorrow!

Koh: Nepet of Night Crow! Let’s get it on!

Referee: Now for the final match in the Normal Tournament! The Group A champ is Nepet of Night Crow…The Group B champ is Koh of Light Fang…both have gotten to this point with ease! This will be an interesting match up! Who will be the winner. Are you ready? Let’s start this battle! Ready…begin!



(Yeah this is actually the toughest battle of the prologue by far. This is actually VERY close to Dawn’s balance pack. The only change is that the Angemon here is actually a MagnaAngemon. Now if I was playing Dawn that Digimon would get an entry sooner or later but…I doubt that’ll happen.)

:33 That was really close actually! They did a lot of damage to Yue and the others had to do a lot stronger attacks then ac has had them use so far!

Referee: Winner! Nepet of Night Crow! The Champion of the Normal Tournament is Nepet! Nepet of Night Crow! Congratulations!

Julia: Well done, Nepet! Glory to Night Crow!

Koh: What…how…how could I…Congratulations…Nepet of Night Crow. You beat me this time, but it won’t happen again next time.


Glare: fight. I was able to see how strong the Night Crow really are.

Julia: Same to you, Chief Glare and Ophanimon.

ChaosGallantmon: Good job Nepet, it was a good battle!

Julia: Yes, you’re right. I’m proud as Night Crow leader.

Ophanimon: Looks like Koh and Nepet are going to be good rivals.

Glare: This match must have been a good experience for Koh. Thank you Nepet. I’m grateful. Well it’s time to get back to SunshineCITY. I look forward to the Bronze Tournament tomorrow!

:33 The Chief saw some weird guy in a red cloak and she decided to follow him! Whatever…it means she won’t bother ac no more.



BlackKnightChessmon: Settle down!

Julia: That’s…the same from before!

Glare: What’s going on? Chief Julia…Have you met that guy before?

Julia: Yes Chief Glare…There was an incident the other day, the wild Digimon went on a rampage in Thriller Ruins. I saw him then…

Glare: I see, I wonder who it is…

Julia: I don’t know. It’s as if he’s watching us…There’s also been strange activity on the server…I’m worried about DarkmoonCITY…Chief Glare, you should also head back home soon.

:33 We finally went home! Julia called ac to a meeting and she told her that she did very good. ac felt very happy and proud of herself.

Julia: matches were worthy of the opening day.

ChaosGallantmon: Sukekiyo, Kakumi tomorrow is the Bronze Tournament…I’m counting on the both of you.

Julia: The Night Crow and Light Fang are old rivals. Winning is important, but even more so is to have a good match.

(or in other words…”winning isn’t the most important thing, the most important thing is having fun!” Normally I’d complain but…the Digimon anime liked that cliché stuff too.)

Sukekiyo: Leave it to us! We’ll beat’em with ease!

Kakumi: We won’t lose to the Light Fang!

Julia: Good! We’re counting on all of you. Get some rest today. You’re dismissed. Nepet, I’d like you to stay. We have something to talk to you about.

(Sukekiyo and Kakumi leave the room.)

Julia: Nepet, do you remember the strange guy we saw at Thriller Ruins and at the match?

ChaosGallantmon: Not only did the guy appear in Thriller Ruins, but also at the match between Night Crow and Light Fang…He must be up to something.

Julia: The strange power he had to make the wild Digimon become aggressive…If the same thing happens at the match…If it happens at the DigiColiseum, it will be a mess.

ChaosGallantmon: There’s also one other thing. Chief Glare may have known him. I could sense something in his face when he saw him at the DigiColiseum. It could just be my imagination.

Julia: I see…I’ll ask Chief Glare about it tomorrow. Nepet, don’t mention this to the others. I don’t want to spread any rumors.

(Why did you tell us about this and bring us into this in the first place? We’re low-ranked, unknown Tamers with no real power or rank in the organization. Something like this should be on a need-to-know basis. And Nepet doesn’t need-to-know.)

Julia: Now, Nepet, I sent you a gift for your good work. Go back to your Tamer Home and have a look.



:33 As ac tried to walk home her other co-workers forced her to come and listen to them. ac came over because they were blocking the way home and she was far too tired to argue.

Punch: Hey, Nepet. You got a gift didn’t you?

“:33 ac suddenly felt really, really nervous. She just left and the gift was supposed to be a surprise. How did this humans already know about it and gather up to talk to ac about it?”

Gutts: How nice. I’m jealous.

Barone: You deserve it for doing so well…But Nepet, isn’t it great? I’m jealous.

Newton: You’re so lucky Nepet. It’s a special gift, isn’t it? It must be something amazing. How lucky.

Dorothy: Instead of being jealous of Nepet, why don’t you guys just get stronger. You have to try harder.

Newton: Tch! Dorothy, you got knocked out of Group A!

Dorothy: So what?! Group A champion was Nepet anyway! I’d better get back to the home and check on the Digimon. I’m going to raise a Digimon that will surprise Chief Julia! Nepet, I’ll see you later!

Newton: Hey, Dorothy! Wait! Later, Nepet. Don’t be late!

:33 ac finally went into the teleporter to her house. As she walks in she hears little tapping feet on the floor. ac walks in more and discovers…she has a koala in her living room now! Yay this is just pawstively purrfect! ac gave the cute koala a snuggle!

Phascomon: Nepet, I Phascomon, am proud to be your NaviDigimon at the home!

:33 ac sort of forgot what the koala said but apparently she was told that she won a farm…ac assumes this is a good thing but…ac already didn’t like building for people in Sgrub…farming will make ac fall asleep.

Phascomon: It’ll be nice to access a Farm Island with this Digi-Farm PC! I can’t wait! A Farm Island has many functions to raise a Digimon! If you take a Digimon you raised and use DNA Digivolve on it at the DigiLab PC over here, you might get an amazing Digimon! See, Nepet! I can’t wait! Huh? Nepet, are you sleepy? I see, you’re tired from the Normal Tournament…Go to sleep early so you get enough rest!


Phascomon: well today! Sleep tight. See you tomorrow! Oh, Nepet. Make sure you brush your teeth and take a warm bath.

:33 ac started to fall asleep. ac started to think about Karkat and Equius and how much she misses them and how she hopes they’re OK. *ac sighs* Maybe I’ll see them again in Prospit.

Next time: We finish the intro at long last and the game really starts to get going.

I'm working on the second block for this LP right now and I just got myself a new Digimon. This thing to be precise.


So I'd like you guys to name him. Other ones I may be able to get by the end of this block are Betamon, BlackToyAgumon, Hagurumon and Kotemon.

He looks like a Sheldon to me.

Yes this seems to be taking forever...that one was my fault. I decided to find ourself a way to get a "Catwomon" because I didn't feel right giving that name to a robot.
