You're playing pretty fast and loose with Colm there

Seriously, that actually looks kinda badass. At least Lyn got a huge ass sword at the end of the game with a unique animation, Eirika's promoted sprite is LAME.

Also the idea of allowing promotion at level 10 but the actual promotion being more effective at level 20 is kinda dumb if you ask me.
To be fair, she was Level 5 like 4 levels before the end of the game, and ALL Fire Emblem games do that, at least to my knowledge.

I dunno, have you played IV/V? They're pretty different.

Hopefully if GBA VC on 3DS becomes a reality, it'll come there. The nice thing about GBA VC is that it's far more likely to have games that are a lot more deeper than platformers and shmups (nothing wrong with them, I just like my SRPGs). Maybe we'll even get FE6 if we're lucky...and Mother 3...and Rhythm Tengoku.

Can't you love this game while at the same time wishing it was just a little bit harder?

But he has an instant kill ability! That... activates at 1/3 his critical chance... so... yeah...
I thought Assassin's could pick locks?

You CAN enable their class change as early as 10. But because of how stats work and the length of games, it's almost never a good idea to do so before 20. It's a choice that only serves to kick the newbie player.

I guess you could argue that it's a choice of making early missions easier at the expense of making later ones harder, but I haven't ever seen anyone claim that to be a good idea, for the same reasons they advocate never using Seth until lategame, if that.

That said, I fully support early promotions to see if you can prove my assumptions wrong!
In the earlier games, it was pretty tough to get all of your characters to LV20. Therefore, if you wanted better growths, promoting your character early could in effect make him/her better than she/he would have been otherwise. It is kinda a pointless thing to do in Sacred Stones, but the easy difficulty offsets that.

No, Sins can't pick locks or steal.

I found that out the hard way.

And if we're doing Supports, Ross and Lute is a MUST.

They can't steal, but they can indeed pick locks. I just plugged in my copy of FE8 for the express purpose of checking this (because it sounded fishy to me), and lo and behold.

Can too. It's the same deal there.

They do require a lockpick, unlike Rogues and post FE9 Assassins -- maybe that's your problem?

I totally remember Matthew becoming completely useless after he promoted.

I can speak with authority with regards to FE7 because I used Jaffar to help clear out some chests in Chapter 29 of the other LP.

The only time to worry about using an Assassin is if you are playing ranked. In FE8 the promotion item is not that expensive for Thieves (10k), but it is stupidly expensive in FE7 (50k). Assassins lose the ability to steal for some odd reason, but do gain that handy Silencer skill, which is an instant kill if it activates. The odds are low though, half your critical rate, so a Killing Edge is a nice investment if you're planning to use an Assassin.

Well, other than the fact that Colm is the only Rogue you can get your entire game, and he is also by far one of the only units in the game I get to level twenty promoted before the end, usually (well, maybe I'm exaggerating that). And he's useful, too!

I'd recommend turning Marisa into an assassin, but that's assuming you're going to use her.

BTW, you should totally use Tana and Cormag...and have them support each other.

I'm pretty sure it's a third of your critical rate, but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong.

The problem with Assassins is that they're promoted Thieves. In other words, with the sole exception of Jaffar, they have horrendous Strength.

Basically, they're Swordmaster lite, only without a Critical boost.

Oy, forgot Rennac. But superior stats also say hi, from Colm to Rennac with love. He's only good for getting the Member's Card.

Meh, a Rogue's main job is to steal, and I'm pretty sure Rennac's speed is good enough.

Of course, two Rogues are better than one.

Well, in my personal opinion, you don't need more than one. Usually you only need one to run around and do stuff, and Rennac's stats aren't good enough for him to stand alone as a fighter.

Which is why there is no problem with making people Assassins or other less good classes.

If Sins can still pick locks, sure, knock yourself out with them.

Just don't make Joshua or Marisa one.

Has all the class skills in FE8. FE7 Silencer works at exactly the same rate. Interestingly, bosses have 1/2 the chance to be hit with Silencer (1/4 of critical rate), and the final boss is completely immune.

EVERYTHING I KNOW IS WRONG.

Still, half a normal Critical chance is still really bad for odds.

Yeah, well, they may be able to pick locks, but Assassins don't have cute ponytails.

I think Rogues are kinda awesome though. With their dagger buzzsaw and cocky looking stance.

Jaffar really ruined all other thieves for me, because I keep hoping they'll be as stupidly broken as him. I finally realized that I actually wanted was Myrmidons and now I use Thieves as little as possible.

Whuh... whuh? I hope you're not serious. Two berserkers? Much less DOZLA? I'm foaming at the mouth with raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage. Although those pictures more than make up for that.

In all seriousness, though, Dozla isn't all that good especially if you're using Ross as a berserker.

Exactly. He should be a Warrior, and learn how to make his arrows strike true and hard.

(bonus points if you can make amelia becoming a general into some kind of innuendo)

Amelia needs to become a General so she can learn to handle long swords.
